Shivananda
Lahari was composed by Sri Adi Shankara praising the splendor of Lord Shiva & Goddess Sri
Parvati is famously known as waves of beauty consists of 100 enthralling verses,
initial 41 verses are known as Ananda Lahari.
My
salutation to the lotus feet of my preceptor, who imparts knowledge and
intricate meanings of Aimkara/Hreemkara/Sreemkara and the Pranavamanthra ‘OM’,
my Salutations to the Supreme Lord Shiva who is the embodiment of Arts, who has
the crescent moon embellished on matted hair locks. My salutations to the celestial couple Lord Shiva &
Goddess Sri Parvati who had attained supremacy over the three worlds with their
penance, provider of Dharma/righteousness, Artha/Wealth and Moksha/Salvation to
the worshippers, provider of eternal bliss to the three worlds, who dwells in
my thoughts and heart which provides immense happiness.
Oh! Lord
Shambho ! your stream of
Charithasaritha/Shaiva Siddhantha & philosophies are capable to wash away
the dust of sins, it runs through the path of knowledge and wisdom, it
eradicates the grief and sorrows from the worldly bondages and ultimately
settles in my mind and heart, eventually the bliss of Shivanandam will touch the horizon.
Oh! Lord
Mahadeva ! The Supreme Lord who is self-luminous, personification of Veda,
provider of bliss, destroyer of three
forms of body such as Sthoola, Sookshma and Karana, who has three eyes and
matted hair locks, whose body is embellished with the venomous serpents,
carrying deer in his hand. I
meditate upon the compassionate Lord Shiva who is the Lord of Lords, provider
of eternal wisdom which leads to salvation, enthralling cosmic dancer and
inseparable from Goddess Sri Parvati.
Oh! Lord
Shambho ! There are various deities, who are capable to provide trivial
rewards, I have never been dreamt of them or desired for those petty
rewards. Oh ! Lord Shiva,
it’s difficult to venerate your lotus hands even for Lord Brahma and Lord
Vishnu, who dwells in the proximity of yours, I earnestly prays to fulfill my
desires to worship your lotus feet.
Oh! Lord
Pasupathey, I am not proficient in any of the Veda Sastra & Scriptures,
Dharma Sastra, Tharkka Sastra, Vyakarana Sastra, Vaidhya Sastra, music, dance,
poetry, ancient history, augury and humor. I am powerless, I have no self
conscious or wisdom how can I impress the Kings? I earnestly pray to save me with your
compassion.
Oh! Lord of
eternal wisdom, an earthen pot or smoke or clothes or thread will not remove
the fear of death and pointless arguments will lead to nothing. Oh! Wise & intellectuals,
worship the lotus feet of Lord Shambu for perpetual happiness.
Oh! Lord
Paramashiva, I earnestly prays for devotion and dedication at your lotus feet
with all my senses, my words always should praise your glories, my hands should
always engage in the worship of you, my ears should always listen to your
glories, my mind should always envision the supreme form of Lord and meditate
upon you, my eyes should always rest on the auspicious idol of you,
Oh! Lord
Mahadeva, the dull witted individuals considered themselves as intellect and
treat oyster shell as silver, sparkle from the glass as diamond, white liquid
as milk, hallucinate wet floor as pond and engages in various worship without
realizing the existence of self-radiant supreme Lord Pasupathi.
Oh! Lord
Umapathi, the foolish individuals wanders in search for the flowers in deep
lagoon, woodlands and hills to worship you, without knowing the simplest method
of surrendering the lotus like heart to you and live a blissful life.
Oh! Supreme
Lord Shiva, my birth does not matter whether it is a human form or deities,
animal in the woodlands or worms or reptiles or bird if my heart tirelessly
meditates upon you, how does a body matters if the heart is persistently
remembering the lotus feet of Supreme Lord and taking pleasure in the supreme
bliss.
