Maneesha Panchakam by Sri Adishankaracharya – Lyrics and Meanings

|| Jai Sriman Narayana ||

|| Shankara ||

The person who has intense awareness and wisdom at the three stages such as Jagrath/awakened, Swapna/dream and Sushupthi/sleep, or the refined knowledge to perceive  the Universe, that restrained in the body of supreme Lord Bhrama and a minuscule form of an ant as well, or who has the superior knowledge that the things which are seen are not real, I shall respect him as a superior human, whether he is Chandala/born with inferior status or Bhramin.

The person who has the supreme awareness that there is no difference between the absolute Bhramam and ‘I”, and this Universe is the source of knowledge, due to the influence of Thrigunas such as Sathvik, Rajas and Thamasic causes illusion which promotes imagination.  Whoever has the supreme knowledge about the “Paramathman’’ who is eternal, unblemished and eternal bliss, I shall honor him as superior among humans, whether he is Chandala or Bhramin.

A wise person who has attained the refined wisdom from his preceptor about the Universe and its unstable nature that it has to undergo destruction, who has the inner peace and engaged in constant search for the eternal Bhramam, and burn down previous sins as well as the future sins in the blazing fire, and completely surrenders his body to live in the present.

I shall honor a person who has the perfect knowledge of the existence of ‘I’ in all living creatures, human and deities, therefore with that ‘I’ consciousness, he realizes the functions of body, heart and sense organs and various opinion and emotions, it is like the sun completely covered with the dark clouds, who is immersed in the meditation like a Yogi and performs their responsibilities flawlessly would be treated as supreme human.

Lord Indra attained the highest of the honor with the true realization and experienced the eternal bliss through the ‘I’ consciousness, Sages and Rishis meditates upon the eternal bliss with their “I” consciousness without any expectation and remains serene.  I shall honor a person, who is thoroughly immersed in the eternal bliss due to their intense devotion, and who has comprehensive knowledge of “Bhramam” becomes absolute “Bhramam”, they are eulogized by Lord Indra and deities.
