Sri Shiva Thandava Sthothram by Ravana ||

|| Jai Sriman Narayana ||

|| Shankara ||

I shall prostrate before the supreme Lord Mahadeva, Oh! Supreme Lord Shiva, whose neck is adorned in venomous serpents, and the constant flow of water from the thick forest like matted hair locks that sanctifies his body, and he performs the auspicious cosmic dance enthusiastically to the tune of drumbeats, may that mighty Lord Shiva shower all the piousness to us.  Oh! Supreme Lord Shiva, I shall reverentially prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva whose matted hair locks are decorated by the flow of the celestial river Ganga which constantly soak the matted hair locks, the dazzling luster on the wide forehead, and the crescent moon adorned like a jewel on the matted hair locks.  Oh! Supreme Lord Shiva,  May my mind achieve the supreme bliss envisioning the omnipresent Lord who is the dearest companion of Goddess Sri Parvathi, the daughter of King of the mountain, Oh! Prabho, you are the essence of the universe and controls the obstacles and hardships of the Samsara with the perpetual flow of your compassionate grace. Oh! Supreme Lord Shiva, May my mind always seek the pleasure of intense devotion at your lotus feet, you are the protector of the lives in the Universe, your attractive body is adorned with the crawling of venomous serpents all over, that have the reddish-brown hood and lustrous gem on it which spreads superradiance on the Kadhamba flower decorated and the Kumkum paste applied on the attractive face, you are attired in a marvelous garment made out of elephant skin. Oh! Supreme Lord Shiva, May I be rewarded with the everlasting prosperity by the supreme Lord who is venerated by Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, and all deities lined up with their heads bowed down and showers the pollen of flowers from the garlands adorned on their chest at your lotus feet, that makes your feet sparkling grey in color and your matted hairs locks are tied around with the red colored snake as a garland. Oh! Supreme Lord Shiva, May I get benefited from the wealth of Siddhi from your matted hair locks, your lustrous and wide forehead shines with the brilliance of flame that was devoured Lord Manmatha, your matted hair locks are beautifully adorned with the cool rays of the crescent moon. Oh! Supreme Lord Shiva, May I be rewarded with the intense devotion at your lotus feet, you  have Soma, Surya, and Agni, as three eyes, your wide forehead is lustrous with the blaze that was consumed Lord Manmatha and you are the  skillful  artist who has drawn attractive lines on the tip of the bosom of Goddess Sri Parvati, daughter of King of the mountain. Oh! Supreme Lord Shiva, May I be blessed with the everlasting prosperity by supreme Lord  Shiva who carries the burden of the Universe, he is decked in a crescent moon and celestial river Ganga on the matted hair locks and whose throat is dark as midnight that has the appearance of new moon wrapped in various layers of cloud. Oh! Supreme Lord Shiva, I shall offer humble salutation at the lotus feet of  Lord Shiva whose neck is sparkling with the luster of fully bloomed blue lotus flower, he is the slayer of Lord Manmatha, demon Andhaka, and  Lord Yama and elephants,  he is the destroyer of the city of Tripura and he is the destroyer of worldly bondage as well.  Oh! Supreme Lord Shiva, I shall offer humble salutation to supreme Lord Shiva who is surrounded by a pack of honey bees attracted to the bunch of auspicious Kadhamba flower garland adorned on his chest,  he is the slayer of Manmatha, demon Andhaka, and Lord Yama and elephants, he is the destroyer of demons of Tripura and destroyer of worldly bondageOh! Supreme Lord Shiva, who performs the cosmic dance with boisterous noises along with the auspicious tune of drum beats, produces a spiral of the tremendous blaze that originates from the wide forehead that spread across the universe, which is initiated by the breath of the snakes. Oh! Supreme Lord Shiva, I shall venerate supreme Lord Sadashiva who symbolizes compassion and equality, he has no discrimination towards common man or Emperor, grass or lotus, friends or enemies, garlands of snake or garland made out of precious gem. Oh! Supreme Lord Shiva, when will I  be fortunate enough to live close to the celestial river Ganga? When will I be relieved from the immoral nature and immerse in intense devotion at the feet of Supreme Lord who has a marvelous forehead and sparkling eyes? when will  I be fortunate to hold hands above my head and call out your sacred names? When will I  be uttering those glorious hymns of ‘Shiva’? Whoever recites or listens to the glorious hymns on a regular basis would get purified and attain immense devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Shiva who is supreme Preceptor of the Universe, furthermore whoever meditates and contemplate upon the Supreme Lord Shiva would be relieved from illusion/Maya.  It’s definite that there is no other way to attain devotion at the lotus feet of the Supreme Lord. Whoever recites the above-mentioned sacred hymns sung by Ravana at the end of worship during the hours of the sunset would be blessed with the grace of Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi and rewarded with everlasting prosperity, an abundance of chariots, elephants, and horses.
