Oh ! Chandhrasekhara, who has Mount Meru as bow, he dwells in the
glacier covered mountain peaks, he has serpent Vasuki as rope wielded to the
bow, Lord Vishnu as powerful arrows and destroyed the city of Thripura in a
vicious battle. I shall surrender to
supreme Lord Chandhrasekhara who is worshiped by deities; therefore Lord Yama
could do nothing to me. Oh! Chandhrasekhara,
whose lotus feet has supreme fragrances of fresh alluring flowers of
Kalpakavriksha, he burnt Lord Kamadheva into ashes with the blazing fire from
third eye, he is smeared in sacred ashes all over his boy, he destroys sorrows
and grief of Samsara and repeated births as well, he is eternal, I shall
surrender to supreme Lord Chandhrasekhara, therefore Lord Yama could do nothing
to me. Oh! Chandhrasekhara who is attired in the skin of untamed elephant, his
lotus feet is worshiped by Lord Bhrama and Lord Vishnu, he has attractive
matted hair locks soaked in the sacred
waters of Ganga, I shall surrender to supreme Lord Chandhrasekhara, therefore
Lord Yama could do nothing to me. Oh!
Chandhrasekhara, who is close associate of chief of Yakshas, he is the slayer of
Bhagaksha, he is decked in venomous serpents as ornaments, he is marvelous with
the eternal presence of Goddess Sri Parvathi on his left, he has bluish throat
contains deadly toxin, he carries the powerful weapon Parasu and deer on the
other hand. I shall surrender to supreme
Lord Chandhrasekhara, therefore Lord Yama could do nothing to me. Oh! Chandhrasekhara who is decked in powerful
serpent as ear stud, he has divine bull as celestial vehicle, he is eulogized
by Sage Naradha and various Sages and Rishis, he is the Lord of the Universe,
he is the slayer of Andhakasura, he is Kalpavriksha to his passionate devotees,
he is Kalakala/death to Lord Yama. I
shall surrender to supreme Lord Chandhrasekhara, therefore Lord Yama could do
nothing to me. Oh! Chandhrasekhara who
is the cure of people besieged with chronic illnesses, he is the destroyer of
all the perils, he destroyed the Yaga of Dakshaprajapathi, he is the symbol of
Thrigunas, he has Thrinethra/three eyes, he is the provider of Bhakthi/devotion
as well as salvation/Mukthi to his ardent devotees, he is the destroyer of all
the sins of his devotees. I shall
surrender to supreme Lord Chandhrasekhara, therefore Lord Yama could do nothing
to me. Oh! Chandhrasekhara, who is most
desirable to his devotees, he is worshiped by all the deities, he is
personification of wealth, he is attired in directions as garments, he is the
commander of Bhoothaganas, he is Parathpara/beyond perception, he is supreme
Lord, he represents Lord Chandhra, Lord Soorya, Water, Earth, Fire, Air, Ether
etc.. I shall surrender to supreme Lord Chandhrasekhara, therefore Lord Yama
could do nothing to me. Oh!
Chandhrasekhara who is the cause for the Universe and protection of its living beings, he annihilates the Prapancha at the time of
deluge, he dwells in all living and
non-living entities, he is surrounded by
the Bhoothaganas, I shall surrender to supreme Lord Chandhrasekhara, therefore
Lord Yama could do nothing to me.
This glorious hymns of Shivasthavam was composed and eulogized by
the son of Mrigandu/Markandeya before Lord Shiva, with the intense fear of
death. Therefore, whoever recites or
listens to this splendid verses would be freed from the fear of death and remain
blessed with long life, good health, wealth and fame, ultimately attains
liberation from the repeated births.
