Sri Hanumath Bhujanga Prayatha Sthothram by Sri Adishankaracharya – Lyrics and meaning

|| Jai Sriman Narayana ||

I shall meditate upon supreme    Lord Hanuman who is the emissary of Lord Rama, he is fond of his devotees, he has supreme brilliance, his valor is eulogized by the whole Universe, he has the stature of Mount Kailash and he has immense courage, he has achieved great triumph in the battlefield by stumbling upon Agni, he is unblemished and he is son of Lord Vayu.  I shall meditate upon Lord Hanuman who dwells in the woods of Kadhalivanam, he has the luster of Lord Adithya in the dawn, he has beautiful smile resembles to the luster of moon, jasmine and Mandhara flowers; he is the faithful servant of King Sri Rama.     I shall meditate upon supreme Lord Hanuman who brilliantly revealed his skills in bringing back the life of Lakshmana, he brought immense pleasure to the deities, he killed  Akshakumara in the fierce battle, he attained the supreme status by relentless recitation of Ramanama.   I shall meditate upon supreme Lord Hanuman who is the emissary of Lord Rama, assumes colossal form by producing boisterous voice and fixing one leg on the ground, he covers the entire direction under the control of his powerful arms, and he is unconquerable.  I shall meditate upon supreme Lord Hanuman who thrashes his tail on the ground which makes deafening noise, his boisterous voice reverberates in the Bhramanda, his lion like roar echoes in the three worlds; he has the stature of Vajra.    I shall meditate upon supreme Lord Hanuman who carried Lakshmana on his shoulder during the fierce battle with Meghanatha, and amicably darted through sky, clouds and the terrestrial world.  I shall meditate upon supreme Lord Hanuman who has the crimson colored eyes, his nails has the sharpness of Vajrayudha of Lord Indhra, his powerful arms has the resemblance to the Dhandam of Lord Yama, his powerful legs terrifies the inhabitants of Pathalaloka, he is highly enthusiastic and prominent in the war field.    Whoever recites or listen to the glorious verses of Lord Hanuman in the hours of dawn, or dusk or midnight after ablations with utmost devotion and austerities, and meditate upon supreme Lord Hanuman would be considered as righteous and he will be freed from all kinds of perils.  I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Hanuman who dwells in the Viladhvara, Bhoopalakadhvara and dangerous woods packed with wild animals, he is Sharanya, Varnnya and most favorable to Rama, he is Kapishreshta/prominent among the monkey warriors.  Oh! Lord Hanuman, who crossed the ocean of nectar in the hours of pitch darkness, and elevated the mountain Dronagiri which contains the rarest herb Mrithasanjeevani that was well protected by Sudhandhas, there is no one in the world is competent to perform that kind of unfeasible task, hence  how can I describe your glories?  Oh! Lord Hanuman, you have skillfully crossed the vast ocean and its powerful waves, listening to the admiration of deities, you have reached the other side of the ocean without any trepidation, you have fearlessly entered the Kingdom of Lanka and conquered the guard of Lanka/Lankini, and like a father you have pacified Goddess Sita who was besieged with intense pain of separation from her husband.  I shall constantly meditate upon supreme Lord Hanuman who destroyed the grief and sorrows of Godde Sita who is the consort of Bhoolakshmi Kantha and Ramanatha, and personification of wealth; he eventually destroyed the pleasure gardens of demons.  Oh! Lord Hanuman,I am completely worn out of  aging and various illnesses, Oh! Hanumath Prabho,  kindly provide us devotion and faith at your lotus feet.    I shall meditate upon supreme Lord Hanuman who is supreme ascetic, fervent devotee of Lord Rama, capable to perform even the impossible tasks, he is not bound by Time and he is fearless, he is most compassionate and capable to destroy the darkness of ignorance.    I shall meditate upon supreme Lord Hanuman who carries Danga in his hand and dwells in the flag of Arjuna, he is capable to destroy all the sins, he is a great warrior, he is decked in magnificent ear stud that extends supreme luster in the three worlds, he burnt the city of Lanka and he is the symbol of innocence.  I shall repeatedly prostrate before supreme Lord Hanuman/Kapeendhra,  I shall earnestly pray to remove all kinds of afflictions from Mahabhootha, unexpected dangers, chronic illnesses and distress.  I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Hanuman who is the provider of virtues, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Hanuman who has the appearance of Mahavajrarekha,  I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Hanuman who is Maha Kalayakala, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Hanuman who has majestic long tail.  I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Hanuman who is equivalent to Kala, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Hanuman who leaped to the Sun by misinterpreted as it is a fruit, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Hanuman who has assumed the form of human,  I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Hanuman who is Mahathbhramachari.   Whoever recites or listens to the above glorious verses of Hanumath Bhujangam in the hours of dawn or dusk would be relieved from all kinds of sins, even though he is unpardonable, the worshiper would attain intense faith and devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Rama and live a blissful life.
