Shyamala Dhandakam – Lyrics and meanings

I shall meditate upon Goddess Sri Mathangi/Mathangakanya/daughter of Sage Mathanga who carries gem studded divine musical instrument Veena on her lap, she is extremely blissful, she has sweet melodious voice, she has the luster of the precious gem Indhraneelam, she has attractive limbs, she is the daughter of Sage Mathanga.  I shall prostrate before the Mother of the Universe who has four hands, she is decked in crescent moon on her beautiful hair locks, her large high raised bosom  is decorated with vermilion, she has beautiful eyes resembles to  lotus flower, she carries Pasham, Angusham, sugarcane as bow and flower arrows. Oh! Matha, who has the luster of the precious gem emerald, Oh! Mathangi,  I shall earnestly pray to shower your auspicious gaze on us.  Victory to Goddess Sri Mathangi who is the daughter of Sage Mathanga ! Victory to Goddess Sri Mathangi who has the luster of blue lily/Neelothpalam ! Victory to Goddess Sri Mathangi who takes immense pleasure in music! Victory to Goddess Sri Mathangi who takes immense joy in conversing with the parrot!

Dhandakam –

Victory to Goddess Sri Mathangi who is the cause of the Universe and its living beings /Janani, she merrily dwells in the garden of Kadamba wood located in an island in the middle of the ocean of nectar, she is the consort of Lord Shiva and most desirable to the whole world/Sarvalokapriye.    She takes immense pleasure in the music, her beautiful hair locks decked in garland of Kadamba flowers are loosened due to the constant movement of head according to the tune of music, she has beautiful limb, she is Goddess Sri Parvathi, daughter of Mount Himavan/Sanumathputhrike.  The crescent moon decorated on her large and beautiful hair locks spreads intense luster on the partition on the center portion of hair lock multiplies her beauty; she is venerated by the whole of the Universe/Lokasambhavithe.  She has attractive eye brows resembles to the flower arrows of Lord Kamadeva, she has three eyes, and she has sweet and melodious voice that spread coolness in the Universe/Vaksudha Sechane.  She is personified as Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi /Rama who is decorated her beautiful eyes with Gorochanam and she is gorgeous and entices the whole Universe.  She is decked in precious pearl as ear rings that illuminate the whole area of the neck which is smeared in highly scented vermilion that attracts the pack of honey bees dancing to the tunes of melodious music from Veena, she has sweet and melodious voice/Susware, and she is the epitome of beauty.  She takes immense joy in the music of Veena, therefore her ear stud keeps dangling, she is worshiped by the Siddhas/Siddhasammanithe, she takes immense pleasure in the consumption of nectar which adds the attractiveness of her eyes, she has the luster of blue lily, and she is the provider of all the auspiciousness and prosperity to the whole world/Sriphale.  She is decked in beautiful nose pin which resembles to the perspiration from her forehead, she is the symbol of the Universe/Sarva Vishwathmike and she is Kalika as well.  She has beautiful smiling face, she is taking immense joy in Thamboolam/betel nuts with camphor, her hands are in Chinmudhra posture, and she is the symbol of all the auspiciousness, she carries blue lotus flower, she is the provider of all the auspiciousness to her passionate devotees/Srikare.  She has beautiful smile on her face, her attractive line of teeth has the resemblance to jasmine flowers that spread intense luster, she carries gem studded Veena on her hand, her crimson colored lips resembles to Bimba fruits/Pakvabimbadhare.   She has everlasting youth, lustrous, pleasant and ever smiling face she is initiated from the milky ocean, her neck has the resemblance to conch, and she is the symbol of all kinds of art forms.  She is the symbol of auspiciousness/Shube, she is decked in various precious ornaments all over her body that spread supreme brilliance.   She is decked in gem studded armlets that spread intense luster all over her arms; she is venerated by females from the  Siddhas and Yogis clan.  She is decked in lustrous bangles that illuminate the whole of the Universe and she is worshiped by the virtuous people.  Her beautiful hands conquer the loveliness of the fresh alluring lotus flower blossomed in the early morning hours, she always showers compassionate gaze on her passionate devotees, she is the symbol of eternal bliss.  She is decked in gem studded finger rings that resembles to the sunset, her finger nails spread the luster of moon, she is worshiped by Lord Indhra, she is decked in magnificent ear rings that has supreme brilliance, and she has dazzling form that spreads the radiance of eternal wisdom.  She is decked in precious pearl garlands that have the luster of stars, she has beautiful smile and she has large high raised bosom that causes slight bend to forefront due to its heaviness, she has beautiful thin waist line, she carries Veena on her hands and she is the provider of auspiciousness to her passionate devotees.  She has large raised bosom that causes slight bed to forefront due to its heaviness, she is worshiped by the whole of the Universe.  She has attractive navel surrounded by the thin line of hairs, she has sweet and melodious voice.  She is decked in magnificent waist belt that keeps dangling conquers the beauty of cupid arrows of Lord Kamadeva, she is decked in various precious gem studded ornaments all over her body.  Her waist belt is decorated with the Padmaraga stones that conquer the beauty of Mount Meru, she spread cool rays of moon.  She is attired in crimson colored garments, therefore the attractive thighs smeared in vermilion resembles to the trunk of Airavatha is invisible; she has the luster of blue lily. She has beautiful knee cap resembles to blue lily resembles to the store house of arrows of Lord Kamdeva, she has attractive gait.   Her lotus feet are venerated by the female deities, they prostrate before her lotus feet, she has lustrous toe nails resembles to moon, she has dazzling features, and she is flawless and unblemished.  She is worshiped by all the deities, her lotus feet has supreme brilliance from the gem studded crown of Lord Indhra, Lord Vishnu, Lord Bhrama, Lord Shiva, Lord Varuna, Lord Yama, Lord Niruthi, Vaishravana, Vayu, Agni, Yaksha etc…her lotus feet has crimson color resembles to the sun in the early morning hours, she has everlasting youth, she carries lotus flower in her hands, she is Padma and Uma as well.  She has glorious myth and she is beyond description, she is seated on the majestic throne positioned on the gem studded lotus flower located on the gem studded dais, she is worshiped by Shankham and Padmam.  She is surrounded by Lord Vigneshwara, Durga, Vadu Kshethrapalaka/Bhairava, enthusiastic Mathanga Kanyas, she is worshiped by Ashta Bhairavas.  She is revered by celestial Apsaras like Manjula and Menka, she is served by Durga and Vamadevi, she is surrounded by Bhoomi Devi, Lakshmi Devi, Ashtashakthis and Sapthamatha, she is worshiped by young maidens from Yakshas, Gandharva and Siddha clans, she is gorgeous, she is venerated by Lord Kamadeva and Rathidevi, and she is worshiped by spring season.  Her lotus feet are capable to provide abundance of boons to her passionate devotees, she dwells in the hearts of Yogis, she is the symbol of Vedic hymns and Beejakshara, she is worshiped by Lord Krishna who takes immense joy in music, she is sincerely eulogized by Lord Bhrama, and she is eulogized by the Vidhyadharas in the form of music.    She is eulogized by Kinnaras with the divine music along with the melodious sounds of Veena, she is worshiped by the females of Yaksha, Gandharva and Siddhas, all the females deities are sincerely engages in the veneration of Goddess Sri Mathangi for obtaining all kinds of auspiciousness.  She is the symbol of supreme wisdom and knowledge, she takes immense pleasure in Music, she has beautiful neck with three different colors of line, she has the luster of blue lily, she conquers the beauty of Kimshuka flower, and she is affectionately conversing with the parrot. 


Whoever meditates upon the glorious form of Goddess Saraswathi who carries Akshamala/ crystal prayer beads in one hand and scriptures on the other, Pasham and Angusham etc… would be blessed with supreme intellect in prose and poetry.  Whoever meditates upon the glorious form of Goddess Sri Adishakthi attired in crimson colored silk garments would be blessed to remain adorable to everyone.  Whoever meditates upon the magnificent form of Goddess Sri Adishakthi in golden color complexion would be blessed with wealth and happiness.


Whoever meditates upon the marvelous form of Goddess Sri Adishakthi who has the complexion of dark clouds, decked in crescent moon on beautiful curly hair locks would be blessed with all kinds of Siddhis, ocean becomes his/her pleasure pond, woods becomes pleasure gardens, world becomes protective throne, Goddess Saraswathi and Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi becomes his/her closest associates.


I shall prostrate before Goddess Sri Adishakthi who is the symbol of Sarvatheertham/sacred waters, I shall prostrate before Goddess Sri Adishakthi who represents sacred hymns/Sarvamanthrathmike, I shall prostrate before Goddess Sri Adishakthi who is the symbol of Sarvayanthram,  I shall prostrate before Goddess Sri Adishakthi who represents Sarvashakthis, I shall prostrate before Goddess Sri Adishakthi who is the symbol of Sarvapeedam, I shall prostrate before Goddess Sri Adishakthi who is the essence of all philosophies/Sarvathathvathmike, I shall prostrate before Goddess Sri Adishakthi who is the symbol of supreme knowledge/Sarvavidhyathmike, I shall prostrate before Goddess Sri Adishakthi who represents all kinds of Yogic practices/Sarvayogathmike, I shall prostrate before Goddess Sri Adishakthi who is the symbol of all divine sounds/Sarvanadhathmike, I shall prostrate before Goddess Sri Adishakthi who represents all sounds/Sarvashabdhathmike, I shall prostrate before Goddess Sri Adishakthi who represents the whole Universe/Sarvavishwathmike, I shall prostrate before Goddess Sri Adishakthi who represents all clans/Sarvavargathmike, I shall prostate before Goddess Sri Adishakthi who dwells in all living and non-living beings/Sarvasarvathmike, she is omnipresent, she is the mother of the Universe I shall earnestly pray to Goddess Sri Adishakthi to protect us !
