sacred verses praising the glories of Lord Mahakaleshvara, one of the 12
Jyothirlinga Kshethra located in Avanthi/Ujjain, these thousands of sacred
names of Lord Mahalakala was narrated by Lord Krishna to his closest associate
Sudhama while they were under the tutelage of Maharishi Sandheepani, and Lord
Krishna concludes with the abundance of the meritorious rewards attainable through
the recitation of Sri Mahakala Sahasranama.
I shall prostrate before supreme Lord

eternal bliss, he is Shivapriya, he is the provider of auspiciousness, he is
benevolent and always works for the welfare of Universe and its living beings, he
is Shashishekhara who is decked in lustrous crescent moon on matted hair locks,
he is Sharanya who is the safest haven to people who are surrendered to his
lotus feet, he is the provider of happiness to worshiper, he is deserved to be
venerated, he is the provider of boons to Shathanandha, he symbolizes sathvik
nature and provider of Sathvik disposition, he is Shambhu who is auspicious, he
is Shankara who is all pervading, he is
Shiva who is benignant, he disperses the fruit of selfless service, he always
protects the people who are engaged in the selfless service, he destroys
enemies, he beautifully recites Samaveda, he is Shauri, he is mighty warrior,
he is Lord of twilight, he merrily resides in funeral grounds, he is
clever, he is supreme Lord who is fond
of sacred rivers, he is wielded in Sudharshana/divine wheel, he is pure, he is
the provider of all kinds of auspiciousness to worshiper, he symbolizes fortune
and prosperity, he symbolizes supreme preceptor and Lord surya as well, he
provided liberation to Saranga, he represents 7 notes in music, he is
Sapthashva/sun, he symbolizes the number 7, he is worshiped by Saptharishis, he
is Shithikanda who has bluish colored throat, he is Shivadheesha who is eternal
bliss represents male and female energy, he symbolizes Union and he is
