Sri Mahakala Sahasranama is
sacred verses praising the glories of Lord Mahakaleshvara, one of the 12
Jyothirlinga Kshethra located in Avanthi/Ujjain, these thousands of sacred
names of Lord Mahalakala was narrated by Lord Krishna to his closest associate
Sudhama while they were under the tutelage of Maharishi Sandheepani, and Lord
Krishna concludes with the abundance of the meritorious rewards attainable through
the recitation of Sri Mahakala Sahasranama.
I shall prostrate before supreme Lord

protector of people with apprehensive nature, he has subtle form, he symbolizes
sacred text and he is fond of people who compose texts, he is decked in
crescent moon on attractive matted hair locks, he dwells in the milky ocean, he
is worshiped by Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi and various deities, he protects the
Universe and its living beings, he has massive form, he is the Lord of Lanka,
he has beautiful eyes and mesmerizing features, he symbolizes Vasu and he is
the provider of wealth, he is supreme bliss, he is the provider of various
boons to worshiper, he is the essence of Veda and Vedanga, he is profound in
Veda, he is wise and joyful, he is omnipresent, he is the provider of wealth
and happiness, he is very fond of melodious music on flute, he is the ultimate
cure for all kinds of illnesses, he dwells permanently on the sacred land of
Varanasi, he is the Lord of Universe, he is source of function of Universe, he
is Vishvanatha who removes all kinds of obstacles and perils in the life of
worshiper, he has profound knowledge in Veda, he established the Varnnashrama
Dharma such as Bhramacharya, Grihastha, Sanyasa and Vanaprastha, he introduced
Varnna such as Bhramin, Kshathriya, Vaishya and Shoodhra, he is the provider of
fruits of strict observance of Varnnashrama Dharma, he is venerated by the
whole of Universe, he embodied as Universe, he is Vishvavasu who symbolizes
wealth, he is Vibhavasu who illuminates the whole Universe with his brilliance,
he symbolizes wealth and he is the source of wealth and provider of wealth to
worshiper, he is embodied as Universe, he dwells as Athman in the Universe, he
is Vaishvadeva, he is the Lord of woods and protector of woods, he dwells in
the dense wood, he represents sacred trees, he is Vrishabha/powerful, he is
Lord of Vrishabha and beloved of Vrishabha/celestial bull, he is very fond of
leaves of sacred bale, he symbolizes sacred bale, he has wide and attractive eyes, he carries the flag that has the symbol of
celestial bull, he is the Lord of
Vrishabha, he is beloved of Vrishabha, he is the Lord of Vilva/sacred bale, he
is the provider of abundance of boons to
worshiper, he is valorous, he is the Lord of woods.
