Sri Shanaishchara Sthothram by Emperor Dhasharatha/Bhramanda Puranam – Lyrics and meanings

Sri Shanaishchara sthothra is highly propitious hymn composed by Rishi Dhasharatha, presiding deity is Sri Shanaishchara, it has Thrishtup as  meter, and it is recited to please Lord Shanaishchara.

Dhasharatha speaks "I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shanaishchara who is the son Lord Surya/Ravi, he has curved eyes and fierce looking, he has the appearance of Yama who put an end to living beings, he has yellowish-brown complexion, he has the luster of dark clouds, he is planet Saturn/Shani, he has reddish-brown/golden complexion as well, he has slow gait, he is Sauri, whoever recites or listens to the prayers to Lord Shanaishchara would be relieved from all kinds of miseries.  I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shanaishchara who is the son of Lord Surya, he punishes even Suras, Asuras, Kinnaras, Nagendhra, Gandharva, Vidhyadhara and  Pannaga, for their indifferent demeanor.  I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shanaishcara who is the son of Lord Surya, he punishes the people who are liable to cause difficulties in countries, forests, houses, cities, armies, etc…  I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shanaishchara who is the son of Lord Surya, he gets pleased by the deed of offerings of Till/sesame seeds, black gram,  cooked rice, iron tools, blue clothes etc..  followed by the recitation of sacred hymns on Saturday.  I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shanaishchara who is the son of Lord Surya, he dwells on the river banks of Yamuna and Prayaga, caves, and sacred waters of river Saraswathi, and he appears in the subtle form before the Yogis who sincerely meditates upon him.  I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shanaishchara who is the son of Lord Surya, he bestow happiness to people when he enters in to his place of constellation and while leaving the home as well, once he reaches home will not return for long period of time.  I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shanaishchara who is the son of Lord Surya, he embodied as Rig, Yajur and Sama Veda, he is the creator of three worlds, and he represents Lord Bhrama, Lord Vishnu/Hari and Lord Shiva/Pinaki.  I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shanaishchara who is the son of Lord Surya, he is eulogized by Pippaladha in various sacred names such as Konastha, Pingala, Bhabhru, Krishna, Raudhra, Anthaka, Yama, Sauri, Shaishchara and Mandha etc… Whoever recites or listens to the above glorious verses praising the splendor of Lord Shanaishchara would be relieved from all kinds of miseries and sorrows caused by planet Saturn."
