Sri Mahalakshmi Sthothram – Sri Vishnu Puranam – Lyrics and meanings

Sri Parashara speaks “ Once again Lord Indhra regained his throne,  glories, powers and heaven with the grace of Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi who has pleasing disposition and  carries lotus flowers in her hands.”


Lord Indhra eulogizes “ I shall prostrate before  Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi  who is worshiped by the whole world, she is initiated from the lotus flower, she has the eyes resembles to lotus flower petals, she symbolizes Shri/wealth and Nidhra/sleep, she resides on the chest of Lord Vishnu, she resides in the abode of lotus flowers, she carries lotus flowers in her hands, she has beautiful eyes resembles to lotus flower petals, I shall meditate upon Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi whose face  has the luster of lotus flower, she is divine personified, she is beloved of Lord Padmanabha, she is the provider of various siddis, she is personified as Svadha, Svaha, and Sudha, she purifies the whole world with her presence, she represents Sandhya/hours of dawn, noon and dusk, Rathri/hours of darkness, Prabha/brightness, Bhoothi/power, wealth, wel-being, Medha/wisdom,prudence, Shradhdha/faith, belief, she is Saraswathi, she symbolizes Yajjavidhya, Mahavidhya, Athmavidhya and Guhyavidha, she has great effulgence, she is divine personified to provide liberation from repeated births, she represents philosophies, three kinds of opulence, administration of justice, pleasantness, etc…she has the luster of moon, she is embodied as Universe and its living beings, she is all pervading, she symbolizes nectar of immortality, she is supremely gorgeous, she represents fire sacrifices, she presides over the deities engaged in Yoga, she has abandoned the three worlds that caused ruin of glories and wealth, she has made the three world prosper with her presence, her auspicious fleeting look provides Dhara/appropriate companion, Puthra/virtous offspring, house/Agara, Suhrith/good companions, Dhanam/wealth, and abundance of grains/Dhanyam, good health, prosperity and wealth, happiness, etc.. Oh! Devi, it is not difficult obtain your auspicious glance, Oh! Amba, you are the source of all living beings, you are the source of  Devadeva, Hari and Lord Bhrama, Oh! Amba,  you are beloved of Lord Vishnu, you are omnipresent and represents all living and non-living things in this Universe,  she is the purifier of souls, she eradicates worldly existence of the worshiper, she is the provider of  wealth/cattle, prosperity, home, appropriate companion, virtuous offspring, good associates etc.. she dwells on the chest of Lord Vishnu, she represents sathvik nature, she is pure, she is absolute truth and store house of virtues, hence Oh! Nara, meditate upon the lotus feet of supreme Goddess who is devoid of properities, she reperesents discipline and virtues, she is provider of prosperity and happiness to the clan, she is deserved to be venerated, she is noble, virtuous, fortunate, opulent, wise, courageous, victorious and she is capable to provide all those auspiciousness to her worshiper with her fleeting look, Oh! Jagadhdhathri, Oh! Vishnuvallabhe,  Oh! Paranmukhi , kindly pardon me for any faults committed while describing your endless virtues, Oh! Vedhase who is the essence of Veda, I am not skillful in describing your endless virtues, therefore Oh! Devi, Oh! Padmakshi, who has the eyes resembles to lotus flower,  kindly forgive me and protect us all.”


Sri Parashara describes “Oh! Dvija/twice born, in this way Lord Indhra prasied the glories of Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi thousands of times and she immensely pleased, while all the deities were listening to it.”


Sri Mahalakshmi speaks “Oh! Devesha, I am completely satisfied with the recitation of these sacred hymns, therefore ask for the boons I am willing to provide them.”


Lord Indhra speaks “ Oh! Abdhisambhave who is originated from the ocean, kindly provide us the boon that you will not abandon the three worlds again.  We shall keep eulogise your endless glories with these sacred hymns, kindly do not abandon us again.”


Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi speaks “ I shall give you the boon that I will reside in three worlds and heaven, I am extremely pleased with the recitation of  these sacred hymns.  Therefore, worshiper who recites these sacred hymns during the early hours of dawn and dusk would attain the eternal presence of me.”


Sri Parashara concludes “ Oh! Maithreya, Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi provided all those boons to Devaraja/Lord Indhra,  Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi is Shrimahabhaga/supremely fortunate, most venerable, and pure, she should be worshiped with sacred hymns and she immensely gets pleased with it, previously she had initiated at the rememberance of  Sage Bhrigu, she was originated while churning the ocean  for nectar of immortality by Devas and Dhanavas, she incarnates in order to assist supreme Lord Vishnu  whenever Jagathswami/Lord of Universe personifies as Devaraja and Janardhana, she is originated from lotus flower, she incarnates on Earth in order to assist supreme Lord, she has embodied as Earth for Bhargavarama, she has personified as Sita for Raghava, she has personified as Rukmini for Krishna, in this way whenever Lord Vishnu manifests as deity or human, she also assumes the same form in order to assist him.  Whoever recites or listens to these glorious hymns praising the splendor of Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi would be blessed with the permanent presence of her in their homes as well as in their clan, houses where the recitation of these sacred hymns takes place with intense faith and devotion would be freed from Alakshmi/inauspiciousness, arguments and fights, etc.. It was described by Lord Bhrama as an answer to my question; Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi who dwells in the milky ocean was personified as daughter of Sage Bhrigu, above are the glorious hymn eulogized by Lord Indhra praising the splendor of Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi, whoever reads or listens to it on daily basis would remain freed from all kinds of misfortune.
