Sri Hayasya/ Hyagreeva Kavacham – Lyrics and meanings

Goddess Sri Parvathi speaks “ Oh! Devadeva/Lord of Lords,  Oh! Mahadeva/Lord of the Universe, Mighty Lord, Oh! Karunakara/too compassionate, Oh! Shankara who symbolizes auspiciousness, kindly narrate the glorious myth of Ramapathi, there are various incarnations of Lord Vishnu and numerous sacred armor praising the splendor of Lord Vishnu,  Oh! Vibho, I would like to listen to the sacred armor of Hayasya who is horse faced.”


Lord Shiva speaks “ Oh! Devi, Oh! Priyamvadhe, Oh! Priye, it was remained highly confidential till date, I shall narrate the splendor of  sacred armor of Hayasya which is pot of nectar, Lord Hari undertook great expedition assuming the form of horse faced/Hayavakthra  during the hours of end of  Mahakalpa, in order to perform his mysterious pastime.  Previously Lord Bhrama described the sacred armor of Hayasya Kavacham to Maharishi Narada due to his affection towards his son, therefore Lord Bhrama is considered as Rishi, it has Anushtup as Chandhass, praising the splendor of Lord Hayagreevah  as  deity, Hraum as Beejam, Hreem as Shakthi, Om as Keelakam.”


Lord Shiva continues “ The sacred armor of Lord Hayagreevah is highly propitious hymn, composed by Lord Bhrama as Rishi, Anushtup as Chandhass, presiding deity is Lord Hyagreevah, I shall pronounce the sacred syllable ‘Om Hreem’ and prostrate before Lord Vageeshvara who is the Lord of excellence in speech as Beejam,  I shall  pronounce the sacred syllable ‘ Om Kleem’ and prostrate before Lord Vidhyadhara who symbolizes supreme wisdom and knowledge as Shakthi,  I shall pronounce the sacred syllable ‘Om Sau’ and prostrate before Vedanidhaye who symbolizes Veda as Keelakam, I shall prostrate before Lord Hayagreevah who has the complexion of crystal, he symbolizes all branches of knowledge, and supreme wisdom, I shall prostrate before Achyutha who represents ‘Omkara’ and he imparts the knowledge of Bhramam.”

Dhyanam –

I shall prostrate before Lord Hayagreevah along with Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi who carries golden vessel on her lotus hand, he is decked in magnificent crown and ornaments of precious yellow metal, Lord Hayagreevah carries Akshamala/prayer beads, lotus flower and sacred scriptures in hands.


 I shall earnestly pray to Sudhasiktha who is munificient/bountiful to protect my head, I shall earnestly pray to Shashiprabha who has the luster of full moon to protect my forehead, I shall earnestly pray to Dhaithyari who destroys the Dhaithyas to protect my eyes, I shall earnestly pary to Vakjrimbhavaridhi who represents ocean of  excellence in speech to  protect my nose, I shall earnestly pray to Sthirashrotha who is dependable/excellent in hearing to protect my ears, I shall earnestly pray to Karunanidhi who is the treasure of compassion to protect my cheeks, I shall earnestly pray to Giramswami who is Lord of speech to protect my face, I shall earnestly pray to Surariharin who is the destroyer of enemies of deities to protect my tongue, I shall earnestly pray to Hanumathsevitha who is venerated by Lord Hanuman to protect my jaws, I shall earnestly pray to Vaikundanayaka who is the Lord of  abode of Vaikunda to protect my throat, I shall earnestly pray to Hayagreevah who is horse faced to protect my neck, I shall earnestly pray to Kamalakara who has the resemblance to lotus flower to protect my heart, I shall earnestly pray to Vishvabhrith who is embodied as Universe to protect my stomach, I shall earnestly pray to Pankajalochana who has the eyes resembles to lotus flower petals to protect my navel, I shall earnestly pray to Prajapathi who is the source of offspring to protect my back part of the body and waist line, I shall earnestly pray to Gadhadhara who is wielded in powerful mace to protect my thighs, I shall earnestly pray to Vishvabhrith who is embodied as Universe to protect my knees, I shall earnestly pray to Jagathampathi who is the Lord of the Universe to protect my calves, I shall earnestly pray to Hayadhvamsi who crushed the pride of demon Haya to protect my  ankle, I shall earnestly pray to Vijjyanavaridhi who is the ocean of knowledge and wisdom to protect my feet, I shall earnestly pray to Vageesha who represents excellence in speech protect me from front, I shall earnestly pray to Varayudha to protect me on the East, I shall earnestly pray to Vishvabhrith to protect me on the West, I shall earnestly pray to Shivavandhitha who worship Lord Shiva to protect me on the North, I shall earnestly pray to Lord Hari to protect on upright areas, I shall earnestly pray to Gunakara who is storehouse of virtues to protect me from the lower areas, I shall earnestly pray to Hari to protect me on the sky, I shall earnestly pray to  Vishvashrisht who is the source of Universe to protect me in the Universe.  Whoever recites or listens to these sacred hymns with utmost faith and devotion would be relieved from all the troubles of wicked demons, whoever reads or listens to it thrice a day during the hours of dawn, noon and dusk with intense faith, even the ignorant will be blessed with scholastic skills.”
