Sri Rahusthothra is highly propitious
hymns composed by Vamadeva Rishi, Anushtup as Chandhass, and Rahu as presiding deity;
it is recited to please Lord Rahu.
Sage Kashyapa speaks “ Oh! Rishis and
Sages, listen to me carefully about the splendor of Rahusthavam, it is capable
to eradicate all the illnesses and deadly toxins of the worshiper, it provides
all kinds of wealth to worshiper, it is highly confidential hymn should be
listen with utmost reverance and without
any weariness, Rahu who the enemie of
Surya/causes solar eclipse, he is dreadful with poisonus flames, he is the
enemy of Chandhra/causes lunar eclipse, he is dark complexioned, he was hammered
by the powerful wheel of Vishnu, he is mighty, he is the Lord of serpents, he
has vicious protruding teeth, he engages in evil deeds, he is the commander of
planets, these are the Dhvadhashanamani/tweleve names of Rahu should be recited
on daily basis with austerities, it should be recited pleasantly before the
idol of Rahu with intense faith and devotion, followed by offering black gram,
and flowers of blue color and Akshatha/yellow unbroken rice, Sri Rahu should be
wroshiped with prescribed rite by performing fire sacrifice, reciting sacred
hymns and offering Dhurvannam as oblation to fire sacrifice, whoever worship Grahanayaka/commander of
planets with utmost reverence and folded hands would be relieved from all kinds
of sins, worshiper would remain blessed with the grace of Rahu who has dreadful
appearance, causes afflictions on Ravi and Chandhra, and represents Thamasic nature. I shall
prostrate before Rahu who is the son of Simhika, he is the enemy of Lord Surya,
he is worshiped by Siddha and Gandharva, he is mounted on lion, kindly
eradicate all our illnesses. He carries
dagger and trident, he is munificent who provides abundance of boons to
worshiper, he eradicates deadly poison, he is Svarbhanu who is the son of Sage
Kashyapa, he is serpent faced, he causes affliction on Sudhakara/causes lunar eclipse,
he is worshiped by Suras as well as Asuras, kindly bless us always. Whoever eulogizes the glories of Sri Rahu
with the above sacred hymn would remain freed from all kinds of illnesses,
though the position of the planet is on the evil side, Lord Rahu will be
pleased with the aboved sacred hymns. Worshiper would be freed from deadly
poison and severe illnesses, worshiper will get all their desires fulfilled and
regain lost kingdom. Whoever reads or
listens to the Sthavarajam/superior hymns praising the glories of Sri Rahu,
would remain pleasant and win over all the senses, worshiper would be blessed
with happy and long life, good health, virtuous offspring, and remain freed
from the evil effects caused by the planets.
I shall prostrate before Sri Rahu who is
the minister of Dhanavas, he is the delight of Simhika, he has half of the
body/ head with no body to support, he is wrathful always, he torments Chandhra
and Adithya/causes lunar and solar eclipse, he is wrathful, he is beloved of
Rudra, he belongs to the clan of Dhaithya, he is Svarbhanu who is the son of
Sage Kashyapa, he horrifies Adhithya, he is the king of planets, he has
consumed nectar of immortality, he desires for Surya and Chandhra, he
represents Kala/death, his fleeting look causes death, he is surrendered to the
heart of Sri Kanta/Lord Shiva, he causes
lunar eclipse, he is the son of Simhika, he has dreadful appearance, he is
powerful, he is one of the planets that causes affliction on the life of living
beings, he has fierce teeth, his eyes are soaked in blood, he has large abdomen, he is powerful
and munificent too, above are the Panchavimshathi /25 sacred names of Rahu, whoever
recites or listens to these highly propitious hymns praising Rahu would be
freed from the evil effects of planets, worshiper would be blessed with good health, virtuous offspring, abundance of
wealth, grains, domesticated animals, and worshiper would live for hundred years.
