Sri Mahadeva Ashtakam – Lyrics and meaning

I shall meditate upon Lord Mahadeva who eradicates miseries and sorrows of the worshiper surrerended at his lotus feet, he symbolizes auspiciousness, and he is serene, he is perceivable, he is pure, he is the essence of Veda and Vedantha, he is Mahesha and Shambhu as well, his lotus feet are worshiped by all the deities, he is Lord of Mountains, he is Lord of Goddess Gauri, he eradicates sorrows and fears of worldly existence, he is unblemished and he has no birth.  I shall meditate upon Lord Mahadeva who eradicates miseris and sorrows of the worshiper surrendered at his lotus feet, he resides in the heart of passionate worshiper, he is always worshiped by his ardent devotees, he is Lord of Mountains, he is the consort of Goddess Uma, he is enduring, he carries Pinaka on his hand, he removes perplexity/hallucination, he has three eyes, he has five faces, he has powerful ten hands, he is eternal, he is decked in crescent moon on matted hair locks. I shall meditate upon Lord Mahadeva who eradicates miseris and sorrows of the worshiper surrendered at his lotus feet, his body is smeared in sacred ashes from funeral pyre, his matted hair locks are decorated with the serpents, he is the provider of welfare and happiness, he symbolizes wealth and prosperity, he crushed the pride of demon of the cities of Thripura, he is sinless, he is decked in crown, Gadgam and various weapons, he eradicates accidental and untimely death, I shall meditate upon Lord Mahadeva who eradicates miseries and sorrows of the worshiper surrendered at his lotus feet, he is enthusiastic and energetic always, he is adorned in sacred Ganga on matted hair locks, he is firm, he is the source of happiness, he is the Lord of Thripura, he has great effulgence,  he burnt Kamadeva who is the consort of Devi Rathi into ashes, his face has supreme radiance, he has attractive matted hair locks, he is the father of Lord Ganesha, I shall meditate upon Lord Mahadeva who eradicates miseris and sorrows of the worshiper  surrendered at his lotus feet, Lord Mahesha conducts an grand assembly of illustrious Rishis and Sages, and Sanaka during the spring season in Mount Kailash and he imparts supreme knowledge of bliss, I shall meditate upon Lord Mahadeva who eradicates miseris and sorrows of the worshiper  surrendered at his lotus feet, he is seated with Goddess Sri Parvathi on his left, Lord Guha and Lord Ganesha on  right, his neck is adorned in venomous serpent, sacred Ganga and crescent moon on matted hair locks, I shall meditate upon Lord Mahadeva who eradicates miseris and sorrows of the worshiper surrendered at his lotus feet, he is Lord of Suras and and Asuras as well, he resolves the differences amiably in between them, he is supreme ascetic, he provides abundances of boons for the penance of his worshiper, he is Suresha/Lord of Lords, he symbolizes supreme knowledge, he is beloved of daughter of ocean, I shall meditate upon Lord Mahadeva who eradicates miseris and sorrows of the worshiper  surrendered at his lotus feet, he is attired in skin of tiger, he is elegant and kind, he holds bark of birch tree and he is youthful, he is mounted on celestial vehicle Vrishabha/bull, he is primordial deity, he is most admired by Kamalaja/lotus born, he is incomprehensible, he is not perceivable, he is the provider of happiness and welfare to his passionate devotees, above are the glorious verses praising the splendor of Lord Shumbhu was composed by Sri Raghunatha, which eradicates all the miseries and perils of the worshiper, it provides wealth and abundance of grains, whoever reads or listens to it on daily basis during the hours of dawn and dusk would be relieved from all the perils and miseries, ultimately attain liberation from repeated births.
