Sri Saraswathi Ashtakam –
I
shall prostrate before supreme Goddess Saraswathi who is pure, she is worshiped
by the whole Universe, she holds lotus flower, she is attired in pure crisp
white garment, she has most desirable, attractive limbs, she is adorned in
various ornaments of gems and precious yellow metal, I shall prostrate before Goddess Saraswathi who is Bharathi and has fair complexion, her two hands are in Varadha and Abhayahastha
posture which showers abundance of boons and refuge to worshiper who are
surrendered at her lotus feet, she holds Rudraksha as prayer beads and sacred
scriptures, she is stunningly gorgeous, passionate, and gracious seated on the
lotus flower, I shall prostrate before Goddess Saraswathi who is the essence of Universe and its living
beings, she is most desirable, she has pleasant disposition, she resides in the
abode of lotus flower, she is sweet, she has the luster of flowers of Kundha, I
shall always prostrate before supreme Goddess Saraswathi, she holds Rudraksha
as prayer beads, she holds golden pot and lotus flower, she symbolizes
auspiciousness, I shall prostrate before Goddess Saraswathi whose beautiful
eyes has the resemblance to lotus flower petals which is capable to shower
abundance of auspiciousness, she is attired in crimson colored silk garment
decorated with gems, she is Goddess of speech who is adorned in gem decorated
ornaments, she resides in the heart of passionate devotees, I shall prostrate
before Goddess Saraswathi who is Adi Shakthi, she is the consort of
Chathurmukha/Lord Bhrama, she is the essence of four branches of Veda/Rig,
Yajur, Sama and Adharvana, she has powerful four arms, I shall prostrate before
Goddess Saraswathi who is the provider
of Chathurvargaphala/Dharma, Arththa, Kama and Moksha, she is worshiped in the
whole Universe, she is lustrous like moon, I shall prostrate before supreme Goddess
Saraswathi who resides on the tip of everyone’s tongue, above are the glorious verses praising the
splendor of Goddess Sri Saraswathi, whoever reads or listens to it on regular
basis during the hours of dawn, would be blessed with supreme intellect, worshiper
would be relieved from ignorance, and the worshiper would get fulfilled all
their desires with the grace of Goddess Saraswathi.
Shaunaka speaks “It was narrated by
Bheeshma Pithamaha to Dharmaputhra Yudhishtira.”
Yudhishtira speaks” Oh! Pithamaha, Oh! Mahaprajja, Oh! Sarvashathravisharadha
who is eminent in all Shasthras, illustrious Sage Bhrihaspathi eulogized Devi
Saraswathi who is the Goddess of speech, envisioned supreme Goddess who has the
radiance of thousands of millions of Surya.”
Devi Saraswathi speaks “ Oh! Sage, I am
highly pleased I would like to offer boons.”
Sage Bhrihaspathi speaks “Oh! Devi,
kindly provide me divine knowledge as boon.”
Devi speaks “ I shall provide highest of the wisdom which is capable to
eradicate all the dullness/evilness, wickedness, sentiments to all those
wise/intellectuals/learned men who eulogize my splendor with sacred texts.”
Sage Bhrishaspathi speaks “ It is
impossible to attain highest of the wisdom, even to the deities, fortunately,
it is available for the righteous people who eulogize the glories of Mahamaya
on regular basis.”
Devi Saraswathi speaks “whoever reads or listens
to the glorious verses of Ashtakam during the hours of dawn, noon, and dusk,
with intense devotion and faith I shall reside on their throat permanently.”
