Sri Ambika Ashtoththarashathanama Sthothram – Lyrics and meanings

The hundred and eight  sacred names of Goddess Ambika is highly propitious hymn was composed by Rishi Markandeya, it has Ushnik as Chandhass and the presiding deity is Ambika Durga, I shall prostrate before supreme Goddess Durga who is seated on the lotus flower, she has great waist line, her beautiful eyes has the resemblance to lotus flower petals, she has attractive navel, she is attired in pure crisp garment, she has beautiful curve towards forefront due to the heaviness of large and high bosom, she is gracefully taking sacred  bath given by Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi, deities, Indhra,  and Ganas with the gem decorated golden vessel, she holds lotus flower, Oh! Devi, I shall earnestly pray for your eternal presence in our homes and offer all the auspiciousness.



I shall reverentially prostrate before Goddess Ambika who symbolizes Siddha, she is Goddess of Siddha, and she has established  Chathurashrama known as Bhramacharyashrama, Grihasthashrama, Sanyasashrama and Vanaprasthashrama,  Varnnas like Bhramana, Kshathriya, Vaishya and Shudhra, she guides righteous people through the Vedic way of life, she resembles Vajra, she is the essence of Veda and Universe, Asthra and Shashra, she is extremely valorous, she is wielded in Shasthra and one hand in Varadha hastha posture which showers abundance of auspicious to worshiper, she symbolizes supreme wisdom and knowledge, she has personified as Bhadhrakali who is unconquerable, Gayathri, Samkrithi, Sandhya, Savithri, Panchali, Kalika, and Bala,  she has embodied as Thripadha, Thrisandhya, Thripadhashraya, Dhathri, she represents eloquence,  and Samagana, she has performed various amusments, she is eternal, she is the bearer of Earth, she does not require any support system, she has embodied as sacred rivers, she is the destroyer of enemies of Suras, she is worshiped with Thanthric and Manthric rites, she is the destroyer of enemies, she has endless glorious myths, she symbolizes Lajja/coyness, meal, happiness, and  prosperity, she eradicates sins of the worshiper, she is attired in majestic yellow silk garment, she symbolizes music and dance forms, she is perceivable through music, she represents Sapthaswara/7 musical notes, Shadjam, Madhyama etc.. she is worshiped as principal deity in the villages, she symbolizes contentment, and  satisfaction, she resides in sanctified places and she has supreme abode, she represents sounds of joy and happiness, she resides in caves and funeral grounds too, she is fond of music and dances, she is most desirable, she is the provider of  contentment, pleasure, satisfaction, prosperity,  and well-being, she is eminent and wise, she is fond of truth, she is supreme Goddess of the Universe who spreads lights and splendid, she symbolizes supreme wisdom, fire, and colossal fire, she is void of properties, she removes toxic poisons, she eradicates poisons from the serpent, she is Kurukulla, she has emerged from the milky ocean while churning for nectar of immortality, she eradicates fear of evil spirits, she is protector of living beings, she represents Rakshasi , night and day, dheerghanidhra/cosmic sleep, and full moon,  she has the luster of full moon, she has the radiance of sun, she explore during the darkest hours in the night, she has personified as Dakini, Shakini, Hakini, Srichakravasini,  and Seetha, she is fond of consumption of nectar, she is serene, she is all pervading, she is the Goddess of woods, she has personified as preceptor and divine cow, she eradicates accidental and unexpected deaths, she has personified as Sharadha and Mahamaya, she is void of  sleep, she is adorned in crescent moon on the crown, she eradicates untimely deaths, she is lustrous like Chandhramandala, she undertakes the deeds of Chandhramandala, she is storehouse of virtues and Siddhi, she is most desirable, she  symbolizes loveliness, desire, brightness,  beauty, belief, faith,  loyalty, and  trust, she has beautiful eyes resembles to lotus flower petals, she holds lotus flower, she resides in lotus flower, I shall prostrate before supreme Goddess Durga who has personified as Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi.
