Neethi Shathakam – Sri Bharthruhari
Virachitham
Chapter – 10– Karma Padhdhathi / Theory
of Karma
Oh! Jeeva, be mindful of your Karma, I
shall describe the role of Karma in your life, I shall prostrate before the
deities, I shall prostrate before the destiny as well, which is powerful and pre-destined by the
Karma of the Jeeva, therefore the fate is powerful than the deities. The Punya
and Papakarma is the source of happiness and sorrows of the Jeeva, therefore
the Karma holds a significant role in the life of an individual, the
righteousness and the depraved deeds of the Jeeva causes the dispersion of the
fruit of Karma, hence Lord Bhrama or deities remains silent before the Karma of
the Jeeva, I shall repeatedly prostrate before that ‘Karma’.
I shall prostrate before the Karma, which caused Lord Bhrama to conduct the work of potter in the Bhramanda like huge pot, and creates the Jeeva like numerous pot which bears the fruits of its own Karma. Lord Mahavishnu who undertakes various incarnations to protect these Jeeva and explore in the dangerous woods of wild animals like Bhramanda to protects the Jeeva. Lord Mahadeva attired in ragged clothing, holding trident and skull as a vessel of alms to remove the terrible sins of the Jeeva, and Surya as the Lord of day. I shall repeatedly prostrate before the Karma which plays a significant role in the life of deities and Jeeva as well.
Oh! Jeeva, worship that supreme soul who transformed the wicked people into virtuous, the enemies into
companions, the invisible into visible, and the toxic poison into nectar.
Therefore worship the supreme Lord is the source of all the righteous deeds,
which is capable to fulfill all your desires. Oh! Jeeva, do not chase after the
material comforts, wealth, possession, fame, and do not get over-attached to
families, children, and relatives, which has impermanent nature, that could
enhance Thrigunas in you. It could not provide permanent happiness to you, it
has fleeting nature, and finally, it will heave you in endless miseries and sorrows
and to the cycles of repeated births as well.
Oh! Jeeva, listen to me carefully I shall
describe the significance of righteous deeds, your Sathkarma/righteous deeds in
several births would provide comfortable living, marvelous houses, attractive
women to serve you, numerous attendants with the fan, immense wealth, and it
would continue in several births. Once, the fruit of Sathkarma ends, your life
would end up like the crystal beads detached from its thread, which scatter and
spread all over. Once, the fruit of the Punyakarma gets over, the comforts and
luxuries from the life of Jeeva would disappear and push them into extreme
anguish and sufferings, like the scattered precious pearl from the necklace.
Oh! Jeeva, be it good or evil deed, think
before you act. The intellectuals do not hurry themselves to any deed; they
think over it again and again and act wisely. Any deed performed without proper
thinking would end up in disaster; it would hurt the Jeeva, like the arrow shot
in the heart. Therefore take time and think before act. The sacred land on
Bharathakhanda is the Karmabhoomi, which is the appropriate land on the Earth
to perform all the propitious deeds which provide an abundance of meritorious
rewards. Oh! Jeeva, after achieving life in the Karmabhoomi, if the person is
not interested in Karma, Vratha, Anushtana, Japa, Tapa, which brings an
abundance of piousness, is same as cooking the fodder of animals in the vessel
made of precious gems, and the fodder of animals cooked in the flame of
Sandalwood. It would be like plowing the infertile land with the golden plow and constructing a fence around the lesser valued grains, after uprooting
the high quality of plantain.
Oh! Jeeva, listen to me carefully, the
physical attractiveness would not yield any results, your birth in the higher
clan or discipline could not help you, and the deep-rooted knowledge in
Shastras and scriptures won’t help you, and your efforts to please the
wealthiest and living in that money would not help you for a longer period of
time. Oh! Jeeva, your good and righteous deeds only would yield results for
several births. The austerities, Vratha, Tapa, Dhyana, Japa, only could make
your life fruitful, remember that it was the fruit of your Poorvajanma that provides happiness and grief. Therefore, let the deluge take place and cause massive
destruction, or conduct journey to the tip of Mahameru, let the enemies win
over the battle, let people engage in agriculture, commercial activities, or
serving the wealthiest, let people achieve knowledge in all the art forms, let
all those Jeeva work hard and fly freely in the sky, whatever happens, and going
to happen in this Universe are based on the results of the piousness of Poorvajanma, therefore whatever supposed to happen definitely going to take place.
Oh! Jeeva, I shall describe the benefits
of Sathkarma, the piousness performed in the previous births would protect the
Jeeva, while sleeping in the dense wood, or in the battlefields, or in the
water or fire, or in the middle of enemies or while living in the hills, or even
if the Jeeva is insane and stuck in the middle of crisis would come out without
hurt with the fruits of Sathkarma. The people who have an abundance of fruits
of Punyakarma would consider the dense wood as a palace, all the Jeevas are
his/her own people and they consider the entire Earth as the storehouse of
treasures. In short, the Jeeva with the abundance of piousness would
consider all the life events as most promising.
