Sri Sanath Sujatheeyam – Sri Mahabharath – Sri Shankarabhashyam

Chapter – 5 –  Bhashyam – 5 & 6 -Mrithyu is Pramadha/ignorance

Sage Sanathkumara speaks “Oh! Kshatriya, Oh! Dhritarashtra, the concept of Asthithva/existence and Nasthithva/non-existence of Mrithyu has begun the moment of the creation of the Universe and its living beings, it has a long existence and it will continue, I shall describe how did the two opposite concepts of ‘Asththithva’ and ‘Nasthithva’ continue. The intellectuals describe the interest in worldly matters, endless desires and bondage are ‘Mrithyu’, it is Mithya, desire is an illusion, the attachment in Asath/Prakrithi which has fleeting nature, people, money, richness, wealth, fame, etc. The Prakrithi, people, richness, fame, material matters are destructible, without the knowledge of Paramarththa, the Jeeva get attached to it, and it is Mithya/Mrithyu as well. Some say that the ‘body consciousness’ ‘I consciousness’/me, myself, and mine is Mrithyu. In my opinion, Mrithyu is Pramadha/carelessness, negligence, ignorance, due to the lack of knowledge of all-pervasive Bhramam, which is eternal, changeless, unblemished, and free from attributes and afflictions. ‘Prachyuthi’ is Mrithyu, Prachyuthi is the lack of knowledge of Purusha who resides as a soul that has neither birth nor death, and the ignorance about this causes ‘Mrithyu’.  The realization of ‘self’ is Athmajjanam, the lack of knowledge of that ‘Athman’ is the causes of Janma, Mrithyu, Jara, and Marana. The Sadha Apramadham/cautiousness, firm realization of self, the knowledge of all-pervasive Bhramam is Amrithathva/Moksha. The Shruthi describes the knowledge of the supreme Bhramam resides as the soul is the source for Moksha. The Athmajjyani constantly immerses in the Paramajyothiswaroopa of that supreme Bramham resides as a soul and keeps away from the material matters and bondage/Vishayavisha. It is a Yajja, which has no dual forms, the Bhramajjyani sacrifices all the material interest, desires, and bondages in that MahaYajja, immerses in the Athmaswaroopa, it is not possible through the performance of Kriya, and hence Chathurvidhakriya cannot bring Amrithaththva. The Gnanakarma Samucchaya would not bring Moksha.  The Jeeva perform various Karma yearning for Karmaphala/fruit of the Karma; therefore they do not overcome the Mrithyu. The intellectuals with the knowledge of the all-pervasive Bramham resides as a soul, achieves eternal bliss.  Oh! Rajan, Jeeva initiates Karma with a desire to achieve the fruit, therefore the Janana and Marana occur with the interest in the Karmaphala. Hence, it is impossible to conquer death with the performance of Karma. Bhramajjyanam/Mokshajjyanam is the only way to achieve Amarathva and Moksha. In short, the Bhramam is the essence of supreme wisdom that can be achieved with pure knowledge only.”

Sage Sanathkumara speaks “Oh! Rajan, I shall describe Pramadham/Mrithyu and Apramadham/Amarathva.  The demons became ignorant because of their Pramadha, the deities with the Apramadham achieved Amarathva.  In fact, Mrithyu is not like a carnivorous that takes pleasure in the meat of other animals, it has no appearance. Therefore we can say it is not Mrithyu.”
