Nyayashasthra – Chapter -3 - Chanakya Neethi – 12 -21

Chapter – 3 – Chanakya Neethi 12 – 21

Rishi Chanakya speaks “The person of hardworking nature will not have the fear of ‘poverty’. The people who have belief in customary rites, the performance of spiritual and religious rites, contemplation, and meditation upon the Supreme Lord would get washed off their sins. The intelligent people observe ‘silence’ where there is no respect for his/her voice or voices remain unheard. The person who is extremely mindful of speech, action, and thought will not have the fear or anguish.  The lovely appearance of Devi Sita pushed her into extreme grief,  Ravana met his destruction because of his haughtiness and pride, emperor Bali met his ruin, lost  Kingdom, and glories due to his extreme compassion and sense of charity, hence the ‘overindulgence’ in any matter or the deed will cause definite destruction.  The common truth is 1) An intelligent, skillful, and strong person cannot be defeated, 2) nothing is impossible for a hard-working person, 3) intellectuals have no land is unfamiliar to them, 4) people who speak sweet and polite will not have enemy.  The tree over-loaded with flowers of rich scent spread the fragrance all around, like the Children/Suputhra of virtues, good habits, discipline, has thorough knowledge in Shashthra and Purana, will enhance the prosperity and fame of the clan. In the same way, a wicked son/Kuputhra lack of morale, dishonest, deceitful, and have no belief in scriptures or religion, would bring shame and destruction to the clan, like the dried wood causes a forest fire. The intelligent learned and virtuous child shines like a lustrous full moon and spread coolness of joy all around. It is admirable to have a single child/Suputhra of virtuous and disciplined, instead of a number of Kuputhra/children who constantly engage in morally wrong deeds and disrupts the peace of the society. Parents should treat their children with great love and respect 1) children should be brought up with great love up to five years of age 2) another ten years they should be treated as an obedient attendant 3) children of sixteen years of age should be treated as dearest companion. Intelligent people miraculously escape from the natural disaster, vicious battlefield, drought, famine, and from the association of wicked companion. The person who does not follow Dharma,  Arththa, Kama, and Moksha, or does not strive to achieve any of the above mentioned, would hurl into the vicious cycles of rebirth and continues to suffer miseries and sorrows of worldly existence.  The presence of Goddess Mahalakshmi is apparent 1) in the homes where there are no conflicts or arguments between husband and wife, 2) in the place where there is wealth and grains are stored according to the needs of the individual, accumulation of wealth and grain would cause a threat to life, destruction, fear of loss and anguish, 3) the place where there is no dull-witted persons are entertained.”
