Chapter
– 1 – Sri Yogavashista Saram – 1 – 10
Sage
Vashishta speaks “I shall prostrate before the all-pervasive supreme Bhramam,
beyond Dhesha/region, zone, and Kala/Time, it is Anantha/eternal Anandha/bliss Akhanda Gnana /flawless
knowledge, Shanthaswaroopa/serene Paramathma Parambhrmama, that can be
experienced through the meditation and contemplation/Tapasya, it is the
self-illuminating /Paramjyothi Swaroopa Paramathma resides as the soul causes the functioning of the mind, intellect, Chiththa, Ahamkara, Karama, Gnanedhriyas, Prana, etc. Oh! Bhagavan, I am worn out of Bandha Pasha/interest in worldly matters,
people, money, richness, fame, wealth, possession, etc. therefore I am sincerely
yearning to achieve liberation from the interest in worldly matters and bondage,
Oh! Bhagavan, this sacred scripture is mainly for those Mumukshus who sincerely
yearn to achieve liberation from the interest of worldly matters and bondage,
and it is not for the intellectuals who have achieved superior knowledge in the
Shastra and Paramarththa Thaththva/knowledge of ‘self’. Oh! Rama, It is
impossible to achieve Sadhguru/Preceptor, or Grantha/knowledge in scriptures,
without the grace of supreme Lord Parameshwara. Oh! Rama, the association with
the saintly people, Mahathma, and noble souls works like the safest ferry to cross
the unfathomable ocean worldly existence. The knowledge of ‘self’, /Athman, indestructible
Purusha and destructible Prakrithi such as material matters, wealth, richness,
fame, money, possession, and people, etc. is the Paramarththa Thaththva. The
body and I’ consciousness/me, mine and myself, is the cause of the Samsarabandha.
The Paramathma Parambhramam resides as soul/Athman, is pure, free from
afflictions, has neither birth nor death, unblemished, and supreme bliss. The
knowledge of self’ would remove the Bhavaroga of the Jeeva, and it is the
supreme cure to get rid of grief and miseries of worldly existence, hence the
knowledge of self is the supreme cure/Mahaushadham to remove the afflictions of
the worldly existence. Oh! Rama, it is not advisable to stay a single night in a
place where there is no Mahathma and Sajjanas. These noble souls are the fruits
and shades of trees of Bhramajjana, hence do not choose to stay in the places
where there is no Mahathma or Bhramajjani who imparts the knowledge of
Paramarththa Thaththva. Oh! Rama, even if
the Mahathma and noble souls do not give advice, their innocent talks, and
experiences are enough to enlighten the soul. Oh! Rama, the association with
the Mahatmas and noble souls would remove the ignorance and add flawlessness
in the Jeeva, the fear of death and false notion about the body and I
consciousness would disappear, and the Jeeva would achieve Amrithaththva/immortality.
The knowledge of the supreme Bhramam resides as a soul would remove the anxieties
and fears in the Jeeva, and it would destroy the impurities such as the Kama
Krodha, Lobha, Moha, Madha, Mathshcharya, eventually the Jeeva get rid of
interest in worldly matters and bondage. Mahatmas and Bhramajjanis imparts the
knowledge of Athman/soul, the indestructible Purusha, and destructible Prapancha,
to the ignorant Jeeva who have already worn out of grief and miseries of worldly
existence, therefore the Mahatmas should not immerse in ‘Athmarathi’/Bhramanandham
always, if so, who will enlighten the distressed Jeeva in the Samsara? Therefore,
the removal of ignorance in the Jeeva is the significant duty of the Mahathma. Oh! Rama, the preceptor, Mahathma, noble souls
who share the teachings on the Shastra and Thaththvajjana are considered as
perpetual knowledge /Akhanda Vijjana /flawless knowledge to his enthusiastic disciple who is Viraktha.”
