Vivekachoodamani – Sri Shankaracharya Virachitham –‘Jagath Mithya Bhrama Sathyam’ - Thaththvamasi

 



Chapter 26 – Vivekachoodamani – 251 -260

 

Preceptor speaks “The mud pot made out of mud have no existence without mud, and it has to merge with it after a period of time, in the same manner, the Prapancha initiated from the supreme Bhramam merges with it. The Universe and its living beings initiated from supreme Bramham, hence there is nothing other than Bhramam, thus Shruthi affirmed ‘Bhrama Sathyam’.  The supreme Bhramam is pure, unblemished, free from afflictions, changeless, and serene, likewise the Athman/ Jeevathma initiated from the supreme Bhramam is pure, with the influence of attributes/Triguna/Rajasik, Sathvik, Thamasik, the Jeeva get attached to the material matters, wealth, richness, fame, money, possessions, people, etc. undergoes constant miseries and sufferings of the worldly existence. The Desha/region, Kala/time, Karma/duties, Karththa/doer, witnessed in the Swapnavastha/dream disappears in the Jagrathavastha/awakening, the same with the things witnessed in the Jagrathavastha/awakening too. It reveals the Mahath Thaththva as ‘Jagath Mithya Bhrama Sathyam’. The learned perceives the supreme Bhramam resides as a soul in them with the strict austerities, and Tapasya, and understands the Bhramam as the source of the functioning of Karma and Gnanendhriyas,  Mana, Buddhi, Chiththa, Ahamkara, Panchakosha, etc.  They contemplate upon the Nithya Shudhdha Bhramam free from afflictions, changeless, pure, has neither beginning nor end. The learned Mahathma perceives the Nirguna Bhramam/free from Sathvik, Rajasik, Thamasik,/ resides as a soul,  is beyond Jathi/Varnna, Neethi/laws, Kulam/clan, Gothra/sub-sect, Nama, Roopa, Desha/region, Kala/time, Vishaya/matter.  The supreme Bhramam is pure, Chaithanya, Shudhdha Ghana Anadhi Swaroopa, beyond word and perception, the learned perceives that pure Bhramam and remain in supreme bliss. The Shadoormi are Kshudha/hunger, Pipasa/thirst, Jara/aging, Nara/visible sign of aging, Shoka/grief, and Moha/desire, these are the six types of powerful waves in the worldly existence. The Yogi perceives that supreme Bhramam is free from afflictions, beyond Indhriyas, mind, intellect, or words. The Yogi perceives that supreme Bhramam which is free from illusion, pure and the essence of the Universe and its living beings cannot perceivable with the Indhriyas. The Yogi perceives that all-pervasive supreme Bhramam as the creator, preserver, and the destroyer of the Universe and its living beings, is beyond Janam/birth, Vridhdhi/growth, Vyadhi/illness, Nasha/destruction,  and Change, etc. The Yogi perceives that supreme Bhramam as Nithyamukhtha, Akhanda Paripoornna Chinmayaswaroopa as serene, free from changes, invisible, beyond Triguna, like the calm ocean. The Yogi perceives that supreme Bhramam, as Yeka/single, Adhvatheeya/lack of duality, is the cause for all the causes, free from all the Karma, beyond Karya and Karana. The Yogi perceives the supreme Bhramam which is Vikalpa, Nirvikalpa/changeless, Anantha/eternal, indestructible, Avyaya/imperishable, Nithya/ eternal, Niranjana/unblemished and remains in supreme bliss.”
