Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh!
Dheenanatha,/beloved of distressed people, whoever attained the grace of that
supreme Lord is fortunate, honorable, and highly worshiped by all. Who was
Vibheeshana? He was born in a demon clan, the younger brother of the demon King Ravana.
Vibheeshana attained the grace of Lord Sri Ramachandra with his intense
devotion and faith, hence he was crowned as the King of Lanka after the death of
his wicked brother Ravana in the battle. Who is mightier than the demon King
Ravana? But he has lost power and glories due to his arrogance and ignorance,
he created animosity with the supreme Lord Rama, abducted Devi Sita, eventually
killed in the battle. Who is pauper than the noble Bhramin Sudhama? He was a
sincere devotee of Lord Shyamasundhara, the result was the Bhramin attained
immense wealth and glories of the Lord himself. Who is a greater sinner than the Bhramin
Ajamila? he has abandoned the Bhraminic way of life and his family and parents for
the sake of a prostitute in the wood. Finally, he has achieved the grace of
Lord Sri Hari with the mere chanting of the name of the Lord, which made Lord Yama not get closer to him. Who is renounced soul like Maharishi Narada? Even though
he has to wander the three worlds, cannot stay in a place for a minute. Who is
greater than the supreme Yogi Lord Shiva? Although Lord Kamadeva played
tricks on Lord Shankara, hence he got attracted to Mohini Avathar of Lord Sri
Hari. Who is uglier than Kubja? the woman who had visible curves on her body,
applied sandal paste on supreme Lord Krishna, during his visit to Mathura, eventually
attained Lord Krishna as her husband. Who is prettier than Devi Sita? Even though
she had attained Lord Sri Ramachandra as her husband, she has to grieve over
the separation from her husband all her life. Oh! Prabho, Oh!
Shyamasundhara, it is extremely difficult to understand you, Oh Prabho, you get
easily pleased with pure love and devotion, and have been always with the distressed
people. Oh! Prabho, I haven’t practiced devotion or worship of you, hence I have
hurled myself into the different Yonis/womb of birds, animals, humans, etc. and I
have taken innumerable births of sufferings and grief of worldly existence.”
