Sri Balamukunda Ashtakam by Sri Adishankaracharya – Lyrics & meanings

|| Jai Sriman Narayana ||

|| Krishna ||

I shall meditate upon Little Krishna/Balam Mukundam who holds his little lotus feet with his lotus flower like hands, thrust his toe finger into his little lotus like mouth,   and reclines on the Vadapathra/banyan leaf.  I shall meditate upon Little Krishna/Balam Mukundam  who recline in the Vadapathra/banyan leaf which was surrounded by the entire world, his divine form in the reclining posture has neither beginning nor end.  He is Sarveshwara/Lord of Lords, he is personified for the welfare of living beings.  I shall meditate upon Little Krishna/Bala Mukundam who has dark complexion that has the resemblance to blue lotus, he has soft and supple, attractive limbs, his lotus feet is venerated by Lord Indra and deities, his lotus feet are safe haven and it is Kalpadhruma/wish fulfilling tree.  I shall meditate upon Little Krishna/Bala Mukundam, who has long black curly hair locks decked in flower garlands, he has beautiful line of teeth that reveals passionate sport, his lips has the resemblance to Bimba fruits, and he has beautiful wide eyes.  I shall meditate upon Little Krishna/Bala Mukundam, who steals milk and curd which was kept safely by the Vrajanayikas/cow herds in their absence; he consumes those milk and curd at his hearts content and makes others to believe as asleep.  I shall meditate upon Little Krishna/Bala Mukundam, who merrily danced, placing his little feet on the hoods of serpent Kaliya by holding its tail in his little hands, in the river Kalindi.  While doing so his face had the luster of autumn moon.  I shall meditate upon Little Krishna/Bala Mukundam, who was tied in to a mortar pastel; he heroically uprooted the Arjuna tree with his divine play and witnesses the same with wide opened eyes that has the resemblance to attractive lotus flower petal.  I shall meditate upon Little Krishna/Bala Mukundam, who leaves fleeting look with his lotus flower like eyes on his mothers face while consuming milk from her bosom, his divine form is pure consciousness and perpetual.
