Sri Ambashtakam by Sri Adishankaracharya – Lyrics and meanings

I shall meditate upon Goddess Adi Shakthi who dwells in the woods of Kadamba, she is surrounded by  female deities and celestials  who are constantly at her service, she has lustrous lotus feet due to the reflection of gem studded crowns of the deities who prostrate before her, she is smeared in highly fragrant sandal paste on her large raised bosom, she is highly enthusiastic  daughter of Mount Himavan,  I shall earnestly pray to bless us with the proficiency in the construction of poems with her Veedirasam/remaining of the Thamboolam on her mouth.   I shall meditate upon Goddess Sri Adishakthi, who destroys the intolerable fears like fire into the bundle of cotton, she augment the welfare of the celestials and female deities who are  constantly eulogize her glories, like clouds that increases the down pour,  she has large raised bosom and long and beautiful curly hair locks, she merrily explores through the woods of Kadamba, she is devoted wife of Lord Shiva and venerates him, I shall earnestly pray to Goddess Sri Parvathi to dwell in my  heart as well.   I shall meditate upon Goddess Sri Adi Shakthi, who is attired in marvelous garments and decked in various precious ornaments, her lotus feet protects Lord Indhra, Lord Yama and deities, her celestial vehicle has the swiftness that conquer the speed of wind, she is surrounded by beautiful and virtuous female deities as closest associates, she is the protector of the Universe, she has the luster of precious gem, she is the provider of wealth and offspring to her devotees, I shall earnestly pray to Goddess Sri Parvathi to dwell in my heart as well.    I shall meditate upon Goddess Sri Adi Shakthi, whose lotus feet provides salvation to the illustrious Sages and Rishis like Vedavyasa, her glorious names are capable to destroy all the sins of the worshiper, she removes all kinds of perils , sorrows and grief of her passionate devotees, she dwells in the woods of Kadamba, she is surrounded by the sweet smell of highly fragrant musk, she has attractive physique, she is the pride of the clan of Mount Himavan, I shall earnestly pray to Goddess Sri Parvathi to protect us from the unfathomable well of grief and sorrows.  I shall meditate upon Goddess Sri Adishakthi, who dwells in the woods of Kadamba, she is surrounded by the female deities and celestials, and merrily explore through the woods, she destroys the fear in her devotees, she has long and beautiful curly hair locks, her lotus feet is venerated by the Rishis and Sages, she is decked in Thalidhalam instead of Yali on her ears, her lustrous forehead is decorated in vermilion, I shall meditate upon those lotus feet of Goddess Sri Parvathi and earnestly pray to transform my mind into honey bee that takes immense pleasure in the nectar like intellect. Oh! Soul, why did you keep endless desires  when this body is a mere dwelling place of   horrible odor of secretion of waste, b0nes and blood that are the meals for the vultures like brutal birds.  Therefore, surrender to the lotus feet of Goddess Girija who is capable to destroy all the impurities in our hearts, her lotus feet are capable to break the endless fears and doubts, she is eulogized by all the deities, she is unblemished and has the luster of full moon.  I shall meditate upon Goddess Sri Parvathi who has large raised bosom and beautiful neck, she is inseparable from her consort Lord Shiva, she is feeding little Subramanya whose face has the luster of moon, she has beautiful lips resembles to Bimba fruits,  she is venerated by Lord Indhra and deities in the Kadamba woods, I shall earnestly pray to Goddess Sri Parvathi to provide us all the auspiciousness.  I shall meditate upon Goddess Sri Parvathi along with Lord Shiva,  she holds parrot on her hand and takes immense pleasure in the association of her consort, she is personified as Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi and Goddess Sri Saraswathi as well, she dwells in the nectar like ocean in order to preserve the Universe, her beautiful curly hair locks that has the intense fragrance of fresh alluring flowers attracts the pack of honey bees,  I shall earnestly pray to Goddess Sri Parvathi to provide us all the happiness, refined knowledge and wisdom, ultimately permanent place at her lotus feet which is the eternal bliss.
