Durga who is personified as Kathyayani/daughter of Sage Kathyayana, she is
Mahamaya who is a great illusionist, she is wielded in Gadga, Bana/Arrow,
Dhanus/bow, and she is personified as Chandi who is wielded in Gadga, I shall
prostrate before supreme Goddess Durga who is born as daughter of Vasudeva/Yogamaya,
she is personified as Kali, she is the brother of Vasudeva/Lord Krishna, she is
embodied as Vasundhara/Earth, she symbolizes wealth, prosperity, happiness, etc..
I shall prostrate before supreme Goddess Durga who undertakes Yoganidra/cosmic
sleep, she undergoes Mahanidhra at the time of delusion, she is Yogamaya who is
the daughter of Devaki and Vasudeva, she is Maheshvari who is the consort of
Lord Maheshvara, I shall prostrate before supreme Goddess Durga who is wielded
in Shankha/conch, Chakra/wheel and Gadha/mace, she hold Sharnga/divine bow in
her hands, she is attired in majestic yellow garment, she symbolizes good
fortune, auspiciousness, happiness etc.. she symbolizes Rig, Yajur, Sama and
Atharvana Veda, she is Universal spirit, she is absolute Bhramam, she is
Bhrami, I shall prostrate before supreme Goddess Durga who is born in the
illustrious clan of Vrishni, she is the sister of Vishnunatha, she represents
the illustrious clan of Vrishni, I shall prostrate before supreme Goddess Durga
who is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent, she witnesses the happenings in
the universe/watchful, she symbolizes elixir of nectar, she has beautiful
matted hair locks, I shall prostrate
before supreme Goddess Durga who has eight powerful arms that holds vicious
weapons, she is worshiped during Ashtami and Navami, she has boisterous voice,
she represents good fortune,prosperity, auspiciousness, happiness etc.. Whoever
reads or listens to the glorious verses of Durga Ashtakam with utmost faith and
devotion would get all their desires fulfilled, ultimately attain the abode of
Goddess Durga.
