Sri Ugra Tharahridhayam - Sri Bhairavi Thanthram – Lyrics and meanings

Lord Shiva speaks “ Oh! Devi Parvathi, listen to me carefully, I shall narrate the glorious verses that had been highly confidential and it is superior hymns of Sri Tharahridhayam which could bring all the auspicious to the whole world.”

Goddess Parvathi speaks “ Oh! Prabho, kindly enlighten me with the splendor of Sri Tharahridhayam and kindly explain who was composed the same.”

Lord Shiva replied “ Oh! Supriye, Earlier it was composed by Lord Indhra before the commencement of battle between Deva and Asura, in order to win over the wicked enmies and achieve power and glories in the battle.”

|| Viniyoga: ||

Sri  Ugra Tharahridhayam was composed by Sri Bhairava Rishi, it has Anushtup as Chandhas, Sri Ugra Thara as presiding deity, Sthreem as Beejam, Hoom as Shakthi, Nama: as Keelakam, it is recited to overpower the enemies.

|| Rishyadhinyasa: ||

I shall prostrate before Rishi Bhairava and offer humble salutation with my head, I shall prostrate before Anushtup Chandhass and offer  humble salutation with my face, I shall prostrate before Goddess Sri Ugra Thara and offer humble salutation with my heart, I shall prostrate before the sacred syllable “Sthree Beejam” and  offer salutation with my hidden parts, I shall prostrate before the sacred syllable “ Hoom Shakthi” and offer humble sluation with my navel, I shall prostrate before the sacred syllable “Nama: keelaka” and offer humble salutation with my feet, it is recited to eradicate the enemies.

|| Karanyasa: ||

I shall prostrate before Goddess Ugra Thara, pronouncing the sacred syllable “Om Sthreem” and offer humble salutation with my thumb, I shall prostrate before Goddess Ugra Thara, pronouncing the sacred syllable  “Om Hreem” and offer humble salutation with my index finger, I shall prostrate before Goddess Ugra Thara pronouncing the sacred syllable “Om Hoom” and offer  humble salutation with my middle finger,  I shall prostrate before Goddess Ugra Thara pronouncing the sacred syllable  “Om Threem” and offer humble saluation with my ring finger,  I shall prostrate before Goddess Ugra Thara pronouncing the sacred syllable  “Om Aim” and offer humble salutation with my little finger, I shall prostrate before Goddess Ugra Thara pronouncing the sacred syllable “ Om Hamsa:” and offer humble salutation with my palm and back of the palm.

|| Hridhayadhishadanga Nyasa: ||

I shall prostrate before Goddess Ugra Thara, reciting the sacred syllable “Om Sthreem”and offer humble salutation with my heart, I shall prostrate before Goddess Ugra Thara, reciting the sacred syllable “ Om Hreem” and offer humble salutation with my head, I shall prostrate before Goddess Ugra Thara, reciting the sacred syllable” Om Hoom” and offer humble salutation with my tuft, I shall prostrate before Goddess Ugra Thara, reciting the sacred syllable “Om Threem” and assume it as sacred armor, I shall prostrate before Goddess Ugra Thara, reciting the sacred syllable  “Om Aim” and offer humble salutation with my three eyes, I shall prostrate before Goddess Ugra Thara, reciting the sacred syllable  “Om Hamsa:” and adorn it as sacred Asthra.

|| Dhyanam ||

I shall meditate upon Goddess Sri Ugra Thara  who has  supreme radiance of thousands and millions of Adithya, she is adorned in crescent moon on her crown, she has blood colored limbs and tongue soaked in blood, she is attired in majestic blood red garment, she has the luster of full moon, she is wielded in Pasham and Angusham, she has powerful four hands, she is adorned in various precious ornaments all over the body, she is Bhagavathi/auspicious, She is Thara who guides the souls to cross the ocean of worldly existence.


Lord Shiva speaks “It is highly auspicious to eulogize the splendor of Goddess Ugra Thara before reciting the Hridhayam, she is Tharini who guides the souls to cross the worldly existence, she symbolizes philosophies and she imparts the knowledge of supreme philosophies, Oh! Parashakthi ,  kindly annihilate our enemies, Oh! Thara, kindly provide victory in the battle with the wicked enemies, she has three marvelous forms, she has glorious myths and she is prominent in three worlds, Oh! Devi, I have composed a few sacred names praising your splendor though it sounds immature, I have written them with great love for you, kindly listen to me, she is beyond description and highly confidential, she is not perceivable for the three worlds, she is Tharini who guides the souls to liberation, she is nectar, she is Thara who have three marvelous forms, she is benevolent, she symbolizes Sathvik nature, she is virtuous, she is the protector of righteous people, she is most beautiful, she has the appearance of Rajasic nature, she is beyond description, she is the source of Universe and its living beings, she symbolizes Thamasic nature, she is Mahamaya/great illusionist, she produces alarming shrieks, she has dreadful appearance, she represents death, she is Kalika, she causes complete annihilation of the Universe and its living beings, she symbolizes greatest philosophies, she is eternal bliss, she imparts the knowledge of philosophies, she is sinless, her limbs are soaked in blood, she is attired in garment soaked in blood , she is adorned in crimson colored flower garlands, she is Siddhalakshmi, Bhramani, and Mahakali , she causes Mahalaya/deluge at the end of Kalpa, above are the sacred names of Goddess Ugra Thara, it should be recited with faith and dedication, whoever reads or listen to it would attain the fortune to serve Goddess Thara who liberates the souls from worldly existence, she is worshiped by Tharakeshvara, I shall meditate upon supreme Goddess Ugra Thara who is Tharini, it is definite that whoever pronounce the sacred syllables “Sthreem, Hreem, Hroom, Threem, Phat,” with utmost faith and perform ablution of Goddess Thara would be relieved from all kinds of illnesses, Oh! Priye, worshiper who recites “Threem, Swaha and Mahamanthras” and adorn Goddess Thara with sandalwood paste and vermilion would remain beloved of all.  Worshiper who reverentially recites the sacred syllables “ Sthreem, Hreem, Threem, Swahamanthras” with the sacred ashes from the funeral ground and place it in front of the house of opponent would cause death of the enemies.  Oh! Manini, Worshiper who recites the sacred syllables  “Hreem Hroom, Sthreem, Phat,” hymns and  offers various flowers followed by  recitation of  sacred syllables “Sthreem,  Threem, Hreem, hymns” and offering of Akshatha/unbroken rice smeared in Turmeric, would cause destruction of foes,  Oh! Priye, recitation of sacred syllables || Hamsa: Om Hreem, Sthreem, Hoom Hamsa: || followed with offering earthen lamp, Oh! Devi, worship of Goddess Thara in the prescribed rites and recitation of Tharahridhayam would eradicate all the sins of the worshiper, it provides abundance of merits equivalent to thousands and millions of Vajapeya Yajja, it provides thousands and millions of meritorious rewards of dip in the holy Ganga and all the sacred rivers, it eradicates intense grief, critical illnesses, sorrows, and fear of death, it removes intense fears and terrible happenings, Oh! Parvathi, Oh! Pranavallabhe, I have narrated the highly confidential hymns praising spending of Goddess Thara is true to my knowledge.”
