Vedasara Shivasthavam – Sri Adishankaracharya – Lyrics and meanings

I shall  meditate upon only at the lotus feet of  Lord Mahadeva who is the enemy of Lord Kamadeva, he is the Lord of living beings/Pashoonampathi, he is the destroyer of sins/Papanasha, he is supreme Lord,  he is attired in the skin of elephant, he is most excellent and munificent/Varenya, his attractive matted hair locks adorn with the streams of sacred Ganga,  I shall meditate upon Lord Mahesha who is the Lord of the Universe, he is Lord of Lords/Suresha, he is the destroyer of enemies of Suras, he is Vibhu and Lord Vishvanatha, he is beautifully smeared in the sacred ashes all over the body, he is Viroopaksha who has unique eyes/Viroopaksha, he have three eyes, he has Lord Chandhra, Lord Surya and Lord Agni as three eyes, he is eternal bliss/Chithanandhamoorthi, he is Prabhu who have five faced/Panchavakthra, I shall meditate upon Gireesha who is the Lord of Mountains/Gireesha, he is Ganesha who is the commander of Ganas, he has bluish colored throat, he is mounted on divine celestial bull, he is store house of virtues and he is beyond description, he is Bhava who has supreme effulgence, his limbs are smeared in sacred ashes, he is the consort of Goddes Bhavani, he have five faces.  Oh! Prabho who is flawless, kindly protect us, he is beloved of ShivA/Goddess Parvathi, he is Shambhu who is auspicious, heis adorned in crescent moon on matted hairlocks, he is positioned on the great direction of Eshana/north-east, he is wielded in powerful trident, he have attractive matted hair locks, he is omnipresent, he is embodied as Universe and its living beings, I shall meditate upon Lord Mahesha, he is Paramathma, he is primordial, he is the source of Universe and its living beings, he is void of passion and desires, he has no specific forms, he represents Omkara, he is eulogized by Pranava, he is the source and protection of the Universe and its living beings, ultimately absorbs them at the end of Kalpa.   I shall meditate upon Lord Mahesha who is the essence of Thrimoorthi/trinities, who is not  restricted in the form of essential elements/Thanthric rites/state of consciousness/seasons/ regions/ or attire, or Bhoomi, Apa, fire, Vayu, Akasham, Thanthra, Nidhra, Greeshma, Sheetham, Dhesham, or Vesham,   I shall take refuge at the lotus feet of Lord Mahesha, who is Para, he is pure, he is void of  duality, he has no birth, he is eternal, he is the cause of all the supreme causes, he is Shivam, he represents supreme radiance that illuminates the whole Universe, he is absolute Bhramam, he is void of Thamasic nature, he has no beginning or end, I shall repeatedly prostrate before Vibhu who embodied as Universe and its living beings/Vishvamoorthi, I shall repeatedly prostrate before Chidhanandhamoorthi/ who is eternal bliss, I shall repeatedly prostrate before supreme Lord who represents severe penance and Yoga,  I shall repeatedly prostrate before supreme Lord who symbolizes Shruthi and supreme wisdom.  I shall prostrate before Lord Mahadeva, Prabhu who is wielded in powerful trident, he is the Lord of Universe, he is Shambhu as well as Mahesha, he have three eyes, he is beloved of ShivA/Goddess Parvathi, he is serene, he is Purari who crushed the pride of demons of cities of Thripura, I shall consider that there is nothing superior or auspicious other than you.  I shall prostrate before Lord Maheshvara, he is Shambhu who is the Lord of the Universe and its living beings, he is compassionate, he is wielded in powerful trident, he is the consort of Goddess Gauri, he is the Lord of living beings , he eradicates  worldly bondages of the worshiper, he is the Lord of sacred land of Kashi, he absorbs the Universe at the time of deluge, he protects it, and continue to sustain the  Universe and its living beings, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Maheshvara who  is Mrida embodied as Universe and its living beings, he is Jagadheesha who is the cause of Laya/delusion at the end of Kalpa, he is embodied as Linga, he is Hara who is Visvaroopin dwells in living and non-living things.
