Sri Nataraja Sthothram – Sri Pathanjjali Muni Virachitham - Lyrics and meanings

I shall meditate upon the marvelous cosmic dance of Lord Nataraja who is the Lord of Chidhambaram , he symbolizes jewel in the ocean of supreme consciousness, he is sun who resides in the lotus like heart of intellectuals/virtuous, while performing cosmic dance one of his feet is lifted attractively, his precious bangles adorned in the hands makes jingling noises, and it is an perfect Kajal for the eyes of Sage Pathanjjali who is a staunch devotee of Lord Nataraja, those feets moves to and fro beautifully are capapble to eradicate the repeated births of the worshiper, he resides under the shade of Kadamba tree and he is attired in sky as garments, he is beyond human intellect, he has bluish throat.


I shall meditate upon the marvelous cosmic dance of Lord Nataraja who is the Lord of Chidhambaram,  he symbolizes sacred Pranava,  he is Hara who destroys the sins of the worshiper, he is the destroyer of the demons of Thripura, he is adorned in serpents as bangles and ornaments, he is too compassionate, his lotus feet are venerated by Virinichi, Lord Indhra and deities, he is adorned in magnificent crown which spreads the radiance of sun in the early hours of dawn, he is adorned in crescent moon on matted hair locks, he is smeared in sacred ashes, his lotus feet crushed the pride of Yama and Kamadeva.


I shall meditate upon the marvelous cosmic dance of Lord Nataraja who is the Lord of Chidhambaram, he is Hara who destroys the sins of the worshiper, he has sun, moon and fire as three eyes, whose auspicious feet blessed Shashi/moon and Dhanajjaya/Arjuna, his supreme abode is storehouse of virtues, he is adorned in crescent moon and streams of sacred Ganga on matted hair locks, he crushed the pride of Lord Yama, he eradicates the worldly bondage of worshiper, he is Shiva who is auspicious, his hands are spreaded all over ten directions, he carries baby antelope on his one hand, he is Pashupathi who is the protector of living beings.


I shall meditate upon the marvelous cosmic dance of Lord Nataraja who is the Lord of Chidhambaram, who is decked in various precious ornaments and gems as bracelet and bangles which produces jingling noises, his lotus feet are beautifully moving to the tune of percussions of Lord Vishnu and Lord Bhrama, he is surrounded by Lord Karthikeya who is mounted on celestial vehicle peacock, Nandikeshvara, Bringi, Ganas, Sanaka, Sanandha, etc.. His lotus feet are worshiped by illustrious Rishis and Sages.

I shall meditate upon the marvelous cosmic dance of Lord Nataraja who is the Lord of Chidhambaram, his lotus feet are worshiped by Dhanajjaya/Arjuna, he is beyond human intellect, his bluish throat resembles to the pack of honey bees, he is worshiped by Mukundha and deities, he is decked in magnificent earrings, he is compassionate towards Devi Rathi, he is the provider of all the auspiciousness to the virtuous people, he is slayer of Gajasura, he is Pashupathi who is the protector of living beings.


I shall meditate upon the marvelous cosmic dance of Lord Nataraja who is the Lord of Chidhambaram, he provided abundance of boons to Sanandha, his face has the luster of moon, he is supreme Lord who always works for the welfare of deities, he is the destroyer of demons of Thripura, he is Pashupathi, he is the father of Dhanthimukha/Lord Ganesha who is elephant faced, and Shanmugha/Lord Karthikeya who is six faced, he is Mrida who has brownish red matted hair locks, he is Ravi  who causes to bloom  lotus like face of  Sanaka, he has pleasing disposition and has the luster of snow, he is worshiped by all, he has swallowed the deadly poision in order to save Universe and its living beings, he is store house of virtues.


I shall mediate upon the marvelous cosmic dance of Lord Nataraja who is the Lord of Chidhambaram, he is beyond human intellect, he destroyed the demons of the cities of Thripura with the assistance of Chandika, he is Aja who has no birth, he has assumed Kshithi/Earth as chariot, he has transformed serpent Vasuki as bow string, golden mountain Meru as bow, he carries deer, Dangam, Parashu, Damaru, he is wielded in Mukunda as bow, he is the provider of abundance of boons to worshiper, his intellect represents sacred texts as horse, he is incomparable.


I shall meditate upon the marvelous cosmic dance of Lord Nataraja who is the Lord of Chidhambaram, he is worshiped by Sage Pathanjali who is a parrot locked in the cage of Pranava,  he is Aja who is the enemy of Kamadeva, he bears all the burden of Earth, he is too compassionate, he carries colossal fire on his hand, he is the destroyer of Anthakasura, his lotus feet are worshiped by Lord Indhra and deities, he has supreme brilliance of hundreds of Adithya, he is smeared in rich fragrance.

The above are the glorious verse composed by Bhujangapungava/King of serpents Adishesha who is personified as Sage Pathanjjali, whoever reads or listen to it would envision the lotus feet of Prabhu, these verses are very simple without Charanashringam/neither beginning nor end, his auspicious feet are venerated by Lord Bhrama, Lord Vishnu and all the deities, whoever reads or listen to it would safely cross the unfathomable ocean of Samsara/wordly existence which is full of miseries and sorrows.
