Abhilasha Ashtakam – Sri Skandhapuranam – Lyrics and meanings

|| Jai Sriman Narayana ||

I shall surrender to the lotus feet of supreme Lord Mahesha, who represents absolute Bhramam and it has no dual forms, there is no doubt in it, it is absolute truth that Lord Rudra is absolute Bhramam with no duality.  Oh! Shambho who is all pervading, you have undertaken the functions of the Universe, though you have various forms, you remain formless as well as in a single form, just like the reflection of sun seen in the water, I have no one other than you, hence I shall surrender to your lotus feet.   Initially the Universe was seen as Shukthika/shell of pearl and all those creations appeared at your own will, I have understood the philosophy of Prapancha, hence I shall surrender at the lotus feet of Lord Mahesha. Oh! Shambhu, you represent coldness in the water, heat in the fire, brilliant rays of sun, coolness of rays of moon, fragrances in the flowers, clarified butter originates from the milk, and hence I shall surrender at your lotus feet.  Oh! Prabho, you are omniscient, you represent sounds and sense organs, you are all pervading, I shall surrender at your lotus feet.   Oh! Esha, Vedas are incompetent to describe your endless glories, or Lord Vishnu or Vidhatha, none of the Yogendhras, or Lord Indhra and the prominent deities, or your passionate devotee, you are the essence of Veda, and hence I shall surrender to your lotus feet.   Oh! Esha, you have no Gothram, or birth, or specific form, or practices or radiance, Oh! Eshvara, you are the Lord of living beings as well as the three worlds, Oh! Esha Kindly fulfil all our desires, I shall surrender at your lotus feet.  Oh! Gaureesha who is beloved of Goddess Gauri, you are omnipresent, you reside in living and non-living things therefore everyone contemplate upon you, you are  attired in directions, you symbolize peace and serenity, you have personified as aged as well as youth and child, you are absolute truth, you are my supreme Lord, hence I shall surrender at your lotus feet.
