Sri Mahalakshmi Sthothram by Lord Indhra – Lyrics and meanings

Lord Indhra speaks “ I shall repeatedly prostrate before supreme Goddess Maha Lakshmi who resides in the lotus flower, she is Narayani, she is beloved of Lord Krishna, I shall prostrate before supreme Goddess Mahalakshmi who has personified as Vaishnavi/female aspect of Lord Vishu, whose eyes has the resemblance to lotus flower petals, she is lotus born and she has the luster of lotus flower, she is seated on the lotus flower, she is adorned in garlands of lotus flower, she symbolizes richness, good fortune, wealth, prosperity etc.. she is worshiped by all, she is the source of intense devotion and faith upon Lord Vishnu, she is the source of happiness as well, she resides on the chest of Lord Krishna, I shall repeatedly prostrate before supreme Goddess who is inseparable from Lord Krishna, she has the luster of moon, she has great splendor of gem decorated lotus flower, she symbolizes wealth and auspiciousness, I shall prostrate before Mahadevi, who symbolizes happiness, success, growth, development, fortune etc.. she is the provider of all the richness, she is Mahalakshmi who resides in the supreme abode of Sri Vaikundham, she is Lakshmi who resides in the milky ocean, she is Swargalakshmi who resides in the abode of Lord Indhra, she is Rajyalakshmi who resides in the fortress of Kings, she is divine personified as Grihalakshmi who resides in the abode Lord Krishna, she has embodied as divine cow Surabi, she has emerged from the milky ocean, she has personified as Dhakshayani who is the daughter of Dhakshaprajpathi and destroyed the Yagna, she has personified as Devamatha Adhithi, she is Kamala who resides in the abode of Kamalalaya/abode of Lotus  flowers, she has personified as Swaha and Swadha as well, she represents offerings to fire sacrifices and all those products available from the cow, she represents Lord Vishnu, she is the essence of Universe and its living beings, she is Vasundhara, she represents nectar, she has sathvik nature, she is the prime object of Narayana, she is void of violence, and anger, she is Varadha who showers abundance of boons, grains and auspiciousness, she imparts the knowledge of self /Paramarththam, she is beyond human  intellect, she is the source for the selfless service to the lotus feet of Lord Hari, she is not perceivable through sense, she is all pervading, she is the mother of Universe and its living beings, she is the source of worldly bondage, she is the source of Dharma, Arththa, Kama and Moksha as well, she is the cause for all the great causes, she represents mother who feed  her bosom milk to  children, she protects them and take good  care of her children, children cannot survive long without their mother’s milk but they manage with the grace of Lord, but without her grace it is impossible to live, she has pleasing disposition, Oh! Ambike, kindly shower your auspicious grace on us, Oh! Sanathani, kindly protect us from the clutches of enemies, Oh! Haripriye, I have lost my glories, wealth and relatives in your absence, Oh! Devi, Oh! Haripriye, kindly bless us with supreme wisdom and knowledge, righteousness, and all kinds of auspiciousness, power, eternal fame, and authoritativeness, Oh!Devi, kindly bless us with triumph and success in all endeavors, braveness, and all kinds of auspiciousness.” In this way, Lord Mahendhra along with all the deities appealed to Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi, they repeatedly prostrate before her with tears on their eyes, while Lord Bhrama, Shankara, Shesha, Dharma/Lord Yama and Keshava were present in the assembly of deities.  Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi offered a marvelous garland which was handed by Lord Keshava  as  boon to the deities to attain triumph over the enemies, and all the deities were highly pleased and returned to their abodes.


Sri Devi speaks “whoever read or listens to the above verses praising the splendor of Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi during the hours of dawn, noon and dusk, would remain wealthiest like Lord Kubera,  and the King would become mighty Emperor, whoever read or listen to it for half a million times would attain all the spiritual fervor, whoever read or listen to it for a month relentlessly would become equivalent to Indhra.”
