Neethi Shathakam – Sri Bharthruhari
Virachitham
Chapter – 9– Dhaiva Padhdhathi
Oh! Jeeva, Karma and its fruits decide
the destiny; the mental and physical strength cannot re-write the destiny of
person, therefore surrender to that supreme Lord who is the disperser of the
fruit of Karma. Lord Indra who has great prowess and splendor, has Sage
Brihaspati as his minister, the powerful Vajrayudha as weapon and Airavatha
as a celestial vehicle, he had several thousand deities as the warriors, the
abode of deities as a fortress, Lord Hari as the protector, even after all these
he had to meet failures fighting against the demons. Oh! Jeeva, leave your
haughtiness and arrogance, and take shelter at the lotus feet of the supreme
Lord. I shall narrate the pathetic story of a mouse created a small hole in the
wooden box, and hurried into the mouth of a hungry snake which was locked
inside the box for several days, was about to die of hunger, the snake happily
ate the mouse and got out of the wooden box through the hole made of the mouse.
Therefore, destiny is so powerful, oh! Jeeva, do not miscalculate the
material wealth and bondage is indestructible, it has to meet its ruin at one
point in time. It is the grace of that Supreme Lord works favorable and unfavorable
during these times.
Oh! Jeeva, the grace of the Supreme Lord
makes the noble people rise from the fall, like the rubber ball/Kandhuka, bounce
back from the Earth. Unfortunately, the people who have bad luck fall on the Earth, like the ball made of mud, and shatters into pieces. I shall describe the story
of an unfortunate soul, a bald-headed person hurried under the shade of a palm
tree with full of ripened fruits, to get rid of scorching heat. Alas! The moment
the person took a seat under it, a large ripened fruit fell on his head and
wounded badly. This is how fate works on the unfortunate person,
who lacks the grace of that supreme Lord. Hence, the unfortunate person carries
troubles with them wherever they go. Oh! Jeeva, haven’t seen the powerful
animal on the Earth elephants get into the trap? Haven’t seen the powerful birds,
and venomous serpents get in the trap? Haven’t seen the Sun and Moon undergo
eclipse? Haven’t seen the intellectuals and scholars sufferings from poverty?
Therefore surrender to that supreme Lord who is all-pervasive, and omniscient.
Oh! Jeeva, Lord Bhrama who is Vidhatha
creates the powerful and wise rulers, he creates Purushashreshta as an ornament
to the Earth, in this way, he has created the whole Universe and its living
beings with good and bad, and destroys the same at his will. Oh! Jeeva, it is
impossible to re-write the destiny, Lord Chandra is the source of nectar, he is
the Lord of medicinal herbs, he is accompanied and revered by the physicians/Shathabhishak,
he adores on the matted hair locks of Lord Shiva, even after all these, and the
Kshayaroga/waning of the moon has no end or cure. Oh! Sakha, a potter
skillfully add mud on the wheel and rotates it to creates stunning pots, the
Jeeva keeps strangled itself in the redundant thoughts and invites troubles, do
not understand the end results of the relentless spin of the wheel of thoughts.
Oh! Jeeva, the Mahathma do not give up
their courage during the hours of crisis, like the mountains Himavan, Nishadha,
Vindhya, Malyavan, Pariyathraka, Gandhamadhana, and Malaya, “Mahendhro Malaya
Sahayassanuman Riksha Parvatha: | Vindhyashcha Pariyathrashcha Sapthaitha
Kualparvatha: ||” and Saptha Samudhra/seven Oceans, Lavana Samudra,
Sharkarasamudra, Dhadhisamudra,
Ghrithasamudra, Surasamudhra, Ksheerasamudra, and Shudhdhajalasamudra do
not change their characteristics until the destruction of Yuga. In this manner,
the Mahathma do not give up their nature even if they meet their death.
Oh! Jeeva, stop your mad chase for the
material welfare and comforts, destiny is so powerful; everything is
pre-destined by the supreme Lord who is the commander of the Universe and its
living beings. You are destined to receive the fruit of Karma, therefore leave
your greed. The Chathaka birds quench their thirst from the raindrops, the
intensity of rain may vary, but they could take up the water as it was
pre-destined to them. Oh! Jeeva, we are like that Chathaka birds, the greed in
Jeeva is uncontrollable, determined to take up whole rain in the mouth, Alas! It
badly fails to achieve the same without the knowledge of the powerful destiny.
