Chapter – 2 - The conversation between Vidura and King Dhritarashtra – 21 – 40

Vidura speaks “Oh! Rajan, an ideal master will not block the payment to his servant or stop giving free allowances, in order to increase his wealth, remember that even the sincere servants and ministers would turn against those Master who refuses to make their payments and abandon him at the time of crisis. Oh! Rajan, a King should have clear cut knowledge of the expenditure of the Kingdom, and the payments of the servants should be decided according to the size of the income and should seek help from others at the time of crisis. Oh! Rajan, a King should consider his sincere servant as the second Athman, an ideal servant is the one who sincerely follows the command of the king, decent, always work for the welfare of the King, well aware of his own capacity and the strength of the people with whom he interacts. Oh! Rajan, the servant who does not follow the command of the King, do not perform the task assigned, proud and haughty, and impolite, talks unfavorable to the King should abandon immediately. Oh! Rajan, I shall describe the qualities of an ideal servant 1) humble 2) skillful 3) do not procrastinate 4) kind 5) person with clean habits 6) person who does not fall for influences 7) A person who was born in a decent family and free from illnesses 8) Person who speak pleasantly. It is dangerous to wander in the streets during the night hours. It is unsafe to fall in love with a woman from the royal family, or the lover of the King. Oh! Rajan, it is unsafe to openly criticize or reject the opinion of the wicked King who is the association with deceitful people, therefore it is safe to move away without making any public comment. Oh! Rajan, do not keep business association with these kinds of people 1) The King who is too kind 2) prostitute 3) King’s men 4) son 5) brother 6) widow who has a male child 7) warrior 8) Person who has met a huge loss. Oh! Oh! Rajan, achievement in tasks depends on the kind of help you receive; therefore wealth and help are interconnected. Oh! Rajan, an ideal parent is the one who retires to Tapasya after performing the two major responsibilities 1) bring up male child and make him capable to stand on his own leg, and let him live an independent life. 2) If it was a girl, giving away the daughter to a suitable groom in the right age. Oh! Rajan, a King should perform all the tasks promising to his subjects and for his own welfare as well.  These two Karmas are considered as the way to achieve Dharma and Arththa.  Oh! Rajan, people who have intellect, power, courage, prowess, enthusiasm, and hard-working natured need not be worried about the source of income. Oh! Rajan, your enmity with the sons of Pandu causes grief to deities and Indra, you are unnecessarily troubled with the hostility against Pandavas who are like your children, and have great respect and love for you. In this way, you are mounting the troubles and grief of your life, your children would achieve ill-fame, and you are giving an opportunity to your enemies to celebrate at your fall. Oh! Rajan, Bhishma, Drona, Yudhishtira, and your waves of anger are like the fury of Indra, it would destroy the entire Universe, like the meteoroids fallen from the sky. Oh! Rajan, listen to me carefully, let your hundred sons and Karna along with the Pandava rule the Kingdom of Hastinapura.”
