Vidura Neethi – Sri Mahabharath – Chapter -  7- 1

Chapter – 1 - The conversation between Vidura and King Dhritarashtra – 1 – 20

Dhritarashtra speaks “Oh! Vidura, the Jeevas are under the control of Vidhatha, like the puppet connected to the wire, therefore it is impossible for the Jeeva to take control of the auspiciousness or troubled times. Oh! Vidura, I am listening all that you speak, therefore continue your nectar-like speeches.”

Vidura speaks “Oh! Rajan, the advice given in the inappropriate times would remain unheard, even if it was advised by the Sage Bhrihaspathi.  Hence, time plays important role in human lives, if the advice received in inappropriate times from Sage Bhrihaspathi would be considered as unimportant as it was received from the ordinary person, eventually it is ignored. Oh! Rajan, a person becomes beloved of all and remains well respected with his performance of charities, pleasant talks, and knowledge in Shashthra and scriptures. Some people with the innate qualities of kindness and compassion and virtues become favorites of all. Oh! Rajan, a person who is hated by all won’t be considered as a follower of Dharma, intellect, or scholar. It is natural that the hated person is considered as an inauspicious and beloved person is auspicious. Oh! Rajan, the destruction is not that the hard-earned money invested in a task which leads to future prospects; the real destruction is wealth earned by immoral means which would bring the definite ruin of people as well as wealth. Oh! Dhritarashtra, some people attain fame by their virtues, some may achieve fame by wealth.  The people who have possessed immense wealth and lacks virtues should be abandoned for good.”

Dhritarashtra speaks “Oh! Thatha, you have spoken all those true facts which were highly recommended by the intellectuals and scholars, I am not able to abandon my sons, but one thing is definite where there is Dharma, the victory will be there.”

Vidura speaks “Oh! Rajan, virtuous, noble, and good-natured people never undergo afflictions. Oh! Rajan, people who talk unpleasantly about others in their absence, spread rumors, perform tasks which create grief in others, or speak harsh words that hurt others, are considered inauspicious, living with these kinds of people would bring constant trepidations. Hence, receiving and giving alms to these kinds of people would bring huge sin. These kinds of people are sinners, these people should be abandoned, and living with these kinds of immoral people would bring disrespect, sin, and fear. Oh! Rajan, people are good while they keep a fair relationship with you, once it is over they forget the favors and turn against you. It is natural that once, the friendship ends, the wicked people begin to talk ill about you, these people do not get peace and remain losers forever. Therefore, intellectuals abandon these kinds of people and their friendship. Oh! Rajan, a person who protects the relatives who are distressed, and suffering from poverty and ailments would achieve all the auspiciousness and happiness, they achieve endless fame, and lives a good life with children and cows. Oh! Rajan, a person who desires for the welfare of the family should help the relatives in crisis, Oh! Rajan, therefore you strive hard to protect the Pandavas who are suffering from lack of livelihood, it would bring welfare to your clan. Oh! Rajan, if you protect your relatives and sons of Pandu, you would achieve all the auspiciousness and welfare.  Even though your relatives are lack of virtues, should be protected. Pandavas are the essence of Dharma, do not leave them penniless. I need not explain the virtues and auspiciousness of the Panduputhra, they are the essence of virtues, and they always seek the welfare of you. I need not tell you how you should protect them at this juncture. Oh! Rajan, therefore, shower your kindness to Pandavas who are struggling to come up in life, you can provide them a few villages as a means for the living; it would bring fame to you. Oh! Rajan, you are the senior member of the Kuru clan, therefore control your sons, I have to talk a lot more favorable things to you, which would bring auspiciousness and welfare to you and your family, I wanted to talk all that promising words to you, I wish the welfare of you and your children.”
