Vidura Neethi – Sri Mahabharath – Chapter - 6 - 2
Chapter – 2 - The conversation between Vidura and King Dhritarashtra – 21 - 44
Vidura speaks “ Oh! Bharatharshabha, the performance of righteous deeds brings happiness and serenity of mind, the absence of the performance of the religious and spiritual rites causes the Jeeva regrets in all life. Oh! Rajan, a wise King should have Shadgunas/six attributes that are Gnanam, Aishwaryam, Shakthi, Balam, Veeryam, and Tejas, and they should have profound knowledge of Sthanam, Vridhdhi, and Kshayam. Oh! Rajan, a wise ruler should have good control and knowledge of the wealth and expenditures, he should have a specific reason for Harsha and Krodha as well, he should be responsible and take good control over the activities which needed his supervision. Oh! Rajan, a wise ruler distribute the wealth of the Kingdom with its subjects, he should have thorough knowledge about the wealth of the Kingdom is owned by all, it is not his personal wealth; he is Maheepathi who has Cchathra/umbrella over the throne, to perform the duties and responsibilities for the progress of the Kingdom its subjects. Oh! Rajan, twice-born know each other in the society, the husband knows about his wife, King knows about his Minister, but the King knows himself. Oh! Rajan, do not release an enemy who is detained for the death sentence, if so he may cause a threat to you. Oh! Rajan, it is advisable to control anger against deities, Kings, twice-born, elderly people, children, and people who are suffering from illnesses. Oh! Rajan, the dull-minded engages constant conflicts, therefore, arguments and conflicts should be avoided; the absence of conflicts would bring fame and keep you away from unnecessary troubles as well. Oh! Rajan, a master who gets angry for no reason, and unpleasant would be abandoned by all, like a wife discard an impotent husband. Oh! Rajan, it is not true that the intelligence would bring wealth and dull-mindedness would cause loss of wealth. The reason for this uniqueness is known to the enlightened soul, others do not understand the reason for it. Oh! Rajan, a dull-minded/ignorant person disrespects Vidhya/knowledge, virtues, age, intellect, wealth, clan, and enlightened people. Oh! Rajan, listen to me these kinds of people bring constant afflictions 1) a wicked person 2) ignorant 3) person who is jealous of other's progress 4) the person who does not follow Dharma 5) person who speaks unpleasant words 6) the person who gets angry easily. Oh! Rajan, these qualities attract everyone 1) honesty and uprightness 2) performance of charities 3) person who sincerely follows the spiritual and religious rites 4) the person who has perfect control over words. Oh! Rajan, a person who is truthful, skilled, grateful, intelligent, and enthusiastic would earn several followers and companions, even though they have little wealth. Oh! Rajan, there are seven types of fuel for the auspiciousness; they are 1) endurance 2) controlled sense 3) forbearance 4) purity 5) kindness 6) pleasantness in the talk, and 7) compassion. Oh! Rajan, there are people who do not believe in sharing wealth or knowledge, deceitful, ungrateful, and shameless, these kinds of people should be abandoned. Oh! Rajan, it is difficult to get sleep after imposing troubles on an innocent, it would be like sleeping near the snake pit. Oh! Rajan, there are people who should be worshiped as deities, capable to destroy your Yoga and Kshema, if they get unhappy and humiliated. Oh! Rajan, the success of the tasks is difficult to achieve that depends on Sthree, careless people, lowly class, and unknown people/ignorant. Oh! Rajan, the regions which are ruled by Sthree, deceitful people and children are like the ferry made of stone that sinks instantly.”
