Sri Sanath Sujatheeyam – Sri Mahabharath – Sri Shankarabhashyam

Chapter – 9 –  Bhashyam – 14 - The nature of a Yogi

Sage Sanathkumara speaks “ Oh! Rajan, The Yogi does not get affected by Karma, it is the ‘Shama’ is the Karana for a Yogi, hence the Yogi should spend life in solitude, abandoning worldly matters and bondage, with a pure intellect, contemplates upon that supreme Bramham/Athmadhyana. I shall narrate how should practice Yoga/Yoganushtana, listen to me carefully. The Yoga should not be practiced in a place of ‘ Nimnonnatha’/depth or high raised platforms, it should be practiced in a place where there is no pebbles, fire/Vahni, Shabdha/sounds, Jalashaya/watercourses, a place which is serene and most favorable to heart and mind,  and the place which is not deep or raised/uneven.  The seat should be prepared with the mattress of Dharbha, covered by the skin of antelope or tiger or deer/Ajina, and a pure clothe should be placed on top of it. The Yogi should take a seat either in Padmasana or Swasthikasana posture, the head, neck, and body should be held straight and begins to concentrate on the Purishayana/who resides as a soul in the Jeeva, the flawless all-pervasive Bhramam,  is eternal bliss, has neither beginning nor the end, he is pure and unblemished, the Veda eulogizes as ‘Na Ithi Na Ithi/Nethi Nethi’, the Bhramaswaroopa which is the essence of supreme knowledge, Yogi contemplates pronouncing the sacred syllable ‘Om”. The supreme Bhramam resides as the soul is free from afflictions/ Shudhdhawaroopa, which has no specific appearance, it is incomparable, it is supreme bliss, Yogi immerses in contemplation of that Pranava. The moment, Jeeva realizes the all-pervasive Bramham with the constant practice of Yoga remains Veethashoka/free from afflictions, ignorance, and misconceptions, and achieves contentment. The Bhrihadharanya Upanishad says “The Jeeva who realizes that he is none other than that ‘Bhramam’, discard the interest in worldly matters and bondage which has impermanent nature, get rid of the Kama, does not feel the need to chase after anything in the destructible Prakrithi.”  The Eshavasya Upanishad says “The Jeeva who realizes the nature of the supreme Bramham resides as a soul in him, and the whole Universe and Prakrithi rest on that Bhramam, get freed from the Moha and Shoka.”  The Katopanishad says “Athman has subtle nature, it is the sole witness, it is eternal, and it is the source of the functioning of Panchaprana, mind, intellect, Ahamkara, Gnana, and Karmendhriya. Yogi with the practice of Adhyathma Yoga and Gnana, attains union with the Athman/Bhramam eventually gets freed from Harsha and Shoka. The supreme knowledge of Bhramam removes the Avidya, Kama, Karma, and eventually, the Jeeva gets freed from the ‘Mrithyu’.  The Yogi who immersed in the Bhramananda/supreme bliss does not get scared of anything. Once, the Yogi envisions that supreme Bhramam gets relieved from Hridhayagrandhi, and all the misconceptions, and all the Karma and Bandha gets destroyed.”

Bhagavan Krishna says “Oh! Partha, understand that the supreme Bhramam is Avyaktha/invisible, Achinthya/beyond perception, Nirvikara/free from passions, it is eternal, and you are that indestructible Paramathman, then you need not grieve over anything. Oh! Arjuna, the Jeeva who understands that all-pervasive Bhramam resides as a soul in him/her, would become learned and contented as well.” The Gita strongly confirms that “ The Jeeva who understand the indestructible Bhramam resides as a soul in him/her, would not get scared of the concept of ‘Mrithyu’ which is derived merely out of ignorance. He remains free from all the threats of Mrithyu or death. Athman has neither birth nor death, it cannot be killed or not get fasten to the material world or people, it is neither Muktha nor Modhasha. The Athman is the indestructible Paramapurusha, he is supreme Lord, and rests of the things are destructible/ Prakrithi/Asath/people, money, wealth, fame, etc. The knowledge of supreme Bhramam would rupture the Ajjanapasha/attachment to people, family, children, companions caused due to ignorance, the false notions get cleared, the Janmabeeja which is the mixture of Shubha and Ashubha would burn in the fire of ‘Gnanagni’/flames of knowledge of Bhramam, eventually, the Jeeva immerses in the supreme bliss, achieves the Paramapadham of Lord Vishnu.”
