Nyayashasthra – Chapter -10 - Chanakya Neethi – 1 - 10

Chapter – 10– Chanakya Neethi 1 – 10

Rishi Chanakya speaks “The loss of wealth or absence of wealth does not make a person pauper, an ignorant person is a pauper by all means, even though he/she possessed huge wealth and grains. The purest deeds are 1) keep your footsteps carefully on the floor which was purified by your eyesight 2) consume the water filtered by the piece of cloth 3) speak the truth in polite words after achieving knowledge in Shastra and Puranas 4) perform the deeds after achieving the purification of thoughts/perform deeds free from desire, lust, ego, jealousy, and anger.  1) The person who years for comforts and luxuries cannot achieve ‘Vidhya’/knowledge in the art forms, Shastra, and Purana, 2) person who undertake strict discipline, austerities, observe vows and celibacy achieves knowledge in all fields.  The nature of learned people, women, drunkards and crow is 1) Nothing is impossible for learned and intellectuals, 2) women are valorous by nature 3) drunkards speak nonsensically 4) and the crow take tastes in all kinds of meat and grains. The destiny is so powerful 1) it could crown the beggar as King 2) it could make the King to beggar 3) it could make the wealthiest to Pauper 4) and it could transform a Pauper to wealthiest as well. The greatest enemies are 1) beggars are a pain to miser 2) learned is a headache to an ignorant 3,) the woman who has an illicit relationship with other men feels her husband as enemy 4) and the thieves feel moonlight/Chandra as the enemy. The Jeeva who is not disciplined, or do not perform any customary rite or do not believe in Veda, Shastra, Purana or do not conduct any austerities, observe silence, vow or celibacy, do not have the sense to perform charities, knowledge in scriptures and sacred texts, or lack of wealth to perform rites and charity or lack of virtues and belief in Dharma is considered as a two-legged animal burden to the Mother Earth. The mere knowledge from scriptures and texts won’t bring success, without putting those into practice will not bring any fruitful results, like the nearness of Malaya Mountain, will not make the trees of Bamboo to achieve the nature of the sandalwood tree. The person who lacks Viveka/basic qualities and Gnana/wisdom do not achieve anything from the knowledge of Shastras and Purana, it won’t do any good to them, and it would be like the blind with the looking glass. It is too difficult to transform a wicked and deceitful person to virtuous; it would be like cleaning the private part thousands of time, and even after all these it won’t be considered as the finest part of the body.”
