Nyayashasthra – Chapter -9 - Chanakya Neethi – 1 - 14

Chapter – 9 – Chanakya Neethi 1 – 14

Rishi Chanakya speaks “Whoever yearns to achieve Mukthi/a unique state of free from miseries and happiness of worldly existence,  live in extreme bliss, do not overact to the situations of happiness or sorrow, grace or disgrace, gain or loss etc. with the  knowledge of  Paramarththa Thaththva that the material matters/richness, wealth, fame, possession, people undergo constant transformation and ruin, the Athman/soul/Bhramam is eternal, pure, free from miseries and sorrows, unblemished, has neither death nor birth, the Sadhaka strictly  1)abandon interests in worldly matters, luxuries, and comforts, known as Vishayavisha/toxic poison 2) practice perfect control over sense, observe celibacy to get rid of impurities like ego, anger, jealousy, pride, lust, and desire, 3) strictly follows truthfulness, kindness,  innocence, and endurance, with the practice of meditation and contemplation upon the supreme Lord, the Sadhaka achieves nectar-like supreme bliss. Whoever takes great pleasure in spreading rumors and other’s confidential matters would get destroyed like a snake trapped under the heap of mud. The most apparent truth is 1) The precious yellow metals do not have fragrance 2) Sugarcane is not as soft and supple as fruits 3) sandalwood trees does not hold flowers 4) an intellectual does not concentrate on accumulating wealth and 5) wise ruler with long-life is unrealistic. The foremost Karma and Gnanendhriyas are 1) nectar is the superior among the herbs 2) Bhojana/sumptuous meal is the greatest experience 3) eye are an important sense organ 4) the brain is an important part of the human body. The learned twice-born meticulously calculates the timings of Lunar and Solar eclipses and inform the people to 0berseve austerities, it is undeniable that this Dhivajas deserves huge respect for their predictions, while there was no air travels system prevailed or study of planets and stars were introduced into a large scale. The seven types of people should not sleep while they are at work 1) student 2) servant 3) traveler 4) person who is hungry/Kshudharththi 5) fearful person/Bhayakathara 6) a person carrying weight/Bhandhi and 7) watchman.  It is not advisable to disrupt the sleep of 1) snake 2) king 3) tiger 4) infant 5) elderly people 6) Dog and 7) ignorant. The twice-born/Bhramin who have practiced Veda Adhyayana as a means to earn a livelihood, and engage in selling the knowledge for wealth, and serving the Shudhra are considered as a snake without poison.  The person whose anger does not create trepidation in others, or his/her happiness does not bring warmth in others are not capable to punish or spread happiness, hence their anger and happiness are futile. The snake spreads its hood to instill fear in the opponent, therefore be it poisonous or not the snake should spread its hood. The learned, intellectuals spend their morning hours listening to the stories from Sri Mahabharath, in the afternoon they discuss lessons learned from Sri Ramayan, and in the night hours they discuss the myths from Bhagavatha Mahapuran. The ignorant and wicked people spend morning hours to listen to Dhyootha Prasanga/gambling, spend their afternoon discuss on women /Sthree Prasanga and in the night hours they discuss on Chaura Prasanga/theft. Whoever constructs beautiful garlands to adorn the deity, grind the sandal paste to decorate the deity, and composes verse praising the glories of the Lord, and conducts the worship of the deity would achieve the splendor of Lord Indra. The people and things achieve goodness, if they put under immense pressure 1) Sugarcane 2) Til/sesame seeds 3)Shudhra 4) wicked women 5) gold 6) sand 7) sandalwood 8) curd and 9)betel nut. The important lessons are 1) sufferings of poverty should be tackled with boldness; 2) old clothes should handle with great care and should be kept clean 3) tasteless meals should be served hot 4) the lack of attractiveness can be well compensated with the virtues.”
