Chapter
- 88 -Sri Vinaya Patrika - The practice of meditation and contemplation for
achieving the serenity of mind
Sri Tulsidas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Ram, Oh!
Raghuveer, Oh! Prabho, my mind, and intellect are wedged on the material matters,
possession, wealth, money, richness, fame, attachment to wife, children,
relatives, companions, etc. my mind is swollen with Ahamkara, Mamakara,
impurities of Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Moha, Madha, and Mathshcharya. Oh! Prabho,
my mind and intellect racing after seeking pleasure in Shabdha, Sparsha, Rasa,
Roopa and Gandha, thereby it has moved afar from the lotus feet of you, it is not
following Veda and Shastra, or the advice of Santh, Mahathmas. Oh! Prabho, my
mind and intellect are in a pitiable state as the Karmaroopi till added to the
grinding stone, my Karmavasana has augmented along with my interest in worldly
matters, Ahamkara and Mamakara, soaked in Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Moha, Madha, and
Mathshcharya, hence my mind is not willing to participate in the association of
Santh, Mahathmas, or meditation or recitation of Bhagavanama or Bhagavathkatha,
not even in the dreams. Oh! Prabho, my mind is too absorbed in taking pleasure
in gossip and rumors, never know to praise the virtues of others, in this way I
have constructed a huge city of sins to reside for me, and encouraging others to
dwell in it, I am not interested to look upon the grave sins of mine or making an effort to rectify them, alas! willing to exaggerate the silly mistakes of
others. Oh, Prabho, your sacred name ‘Ram’ is highly propitious, it is the essence of Veda, and the safest ferry to cross the Samsararoopi ocean, alas! this
wicked is selling your sacred name to earn a livelihood and acting as the slave
others. Oh! Prabho, whenever I get into the association of Mahathmas and
noble-souls, or listening to your glorious myths, the mind and intellect rushes
towards the Vishayavasana, Kamanaroopi Samasara. Oh! Prabho, I am helpless, Papi
/sinner and Budhdhiheen/dull, I have drenched in the interest in worldly
matters, possession, wealth, richness, fame, money, attachment to wife,
children, relatives, and companion, Ahamkara, Mamakara, impurities of Kama,
Krodha, Lobha, Moha, Madha, and Mathshcharya, excessive interest in Shabdha,
Sparsha, Rasa, Roopa, and Gandh. I am
worn out of redundant thoughts, fears, and anxieties of worldly matters, Oh
Karunanidhi, I have lost serenity of mind, how could I withstand the extreme
anguish and agony of worldly existence? I have practiced several methods to calm
down my mind and get rid of redundant thoughts and anxiousness, but nothing has
worked. Oh! Tulsi, the extreme grief, fears, and anxieties of the worldly
existence/Samsara, and the Thrividha Thapa would get over only when the Jeeva perceive
the Paramathma Parambhramam resides as a soul in it, and experience the presence
of the supreme Lord Sri Ramachandra in their heart.”
