Chapter - 89 -Sri Vinaya Pathrika  -  – Ajamila Upakhyanam – Ananya Bhakti to get rid of impurities of the mind

Sri Tulsidas Maharaj speaks “ Oh! Raghuveera, you have not abandoned a single Jeeva whoever taken shelter at your lotus feet, you have been so kind and compassionate to all the Jeeva unconditionally. Oh! Prabho, you are the destroyer of the sufferings of the worldly existence and liberates the Jeeva from the vicious cycles of rebirth. Oh! Hari, Veda eulogizes your glories, and the scriptures describe the legend of the twice-born Ajamila who was trapped in the beauty of a prostitute in the dense wood and started living with her, abandoning his own parents, family and children, and his disciplines, austerities, spiritual and religious rites. Thus, he had spent several years living with the prostitute and had many children, finally, in the latter years of age, he was pushed to extreme fear and agony while in the death bed, called out for his son ‘Narayan’ for help. In this way, with the mere utterance of the sacred name of Lord Narayana, he got freed from the clutches of the emissaries of Yama. Oh! Prabho, the Gajaraj Gajendhra who was seized by the crocodile in the pond, fought with all the strength of the family, eventually, the family left the hope and moved forward, he continued to fight it all alone for several years, it didn’t save him, finally, he cried out for the help of Paramathma Adhimoola, Oh! Prabho, you have rushed to protect him, and removed him from the mouth of death, and liberated the Gajendra and the crocodile as well. Oh! Prabho, you have protected the hunter/Nishadha, Valmiki, Guha, Jatayu, Ganika Pingala, released from their sins and sufferings, you have protected those who sincerely served you and took shelter at your lotus feet. Oh! Raghuvamshabhooshan, Oh! Ram, I am confused, where do I belong to? I have not followed any austerities, vow of silence, observance of celibacy, Swadhyaya, Athmavichara, Sathyam, Dhaya, Shaucham, Arjjavam, Dhamam, Shamam, Ahimsa, forbearance, etc. Oh! Prabho, I am Tulsidas, suffering from the worldly existence of Ajjanaroopi deep and dark well in day and night, all those who have taken shelter at your lotus feet were protected, Oh! Prabho, kindly protect me from the miseries and sorrows of Samsara.”

Sri Tulsidas Maharaj continues “ Oh! Kripasindhu, your devotees are at your doorsteps, seeking your protection from the hellish tortures of Ahamkara, Mamakara, Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Madha, Moha, Mathshcharya etc. Oh! Prabho, you have been prompt to the cries of your devotees and liberated from their sufferings. Oh! Prabho, Gajaraj,  Prahladh, Pandava, Sugreevah, was tortured by their enemies were protected by you. Oh! Prabho, your ardent devotee Vibheeshana, who is the younger brother to Ravana was humiliated and driven out of Lanka was taken your shelter, you have embraced him and pacified him, considered him as your young brother. Oh! Prabho, I am yearning to build a village of your sacred name in my heart, I am inviting the  Bhakthi, Gnana, Vairagya, like the Mahathmas to live in the village constructed in my heart, alas! the impurities of Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Moha, Madha, Mathshcharya, Ahamkara, Mamakara, Shabdha, Sparsha, Rasa, Roopa, and Gandha, like the enemies driving out these Mahathmas like Bhakthi, Gnana, Vairagya, from my heart. Oh! Prabho, the newly created village of Ram in my heart has become the dwelling place for the wicked women, and men like the interest in material matters, richness, money, fame, possession, wealth, attachment to wife, children, relatives, and companions. Oh! Prabho, I have adopted Sama, Dhama, Dhanda, and Bedha, against these impurities like enemies for so long, I am tired of my effort. Oh! Prabho, I am exhausted, I have miserably failed in driving out the impurities of the mind and redundant thoughts, I have clearly explained my grief and appealed to you. Oh! Prabho, I have no one to approach, other deities are not capable to remove my sufferings, because they are not too compassionate and kind as you. Where did I go? Whom to approach? Who will remove the sufferings and grief of mine? Who will protect me from this Samsara Sagara?. Oh! Prabho, although Tulsi is wicked and unjustifiable, I belong to you, I have taken shelter at your lotus feet, I am not a slave of others. Oh! Prabho, kindly consider me as yours and shower the boon of intense devotion/Ananya Bhakthi, so that the Bhakthiroopi village I have created in my heart would flourish. The Bhakthiroopi seed will remove the impurities of the mind, Ahamkara, Mamakara, interest in worldly matters, etc. and I could achieve the fruit of Bhakthi that is eternal bliss.”
