Sri Surdas Maharaj – Sri Sur – Vinaya – Pathrika – The nature of Maya/illusion/something which does not exist in real

Chapter – 53 -  Sur -Vinaya – Pathrika – The nature of Maya/illusion/something which does not exist in real

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Gopal, your Maya is extremely powerful, it has taken complete control over the Universe and its living and non-living things. Your Maya is like the cunning woman who persuades the men with her lovely gestures and smile, and eventually, takes control of them.  She has attired in marvelous red saree, covered in white beautiful clothes on her chest, she has draped beautiful dark blue piece of cloth around her waist, who is not get attracted to her? Oh! Prabho, your Maya represents the three attributes of Rajasik, Thamasik, and Sathwik. The white marvelous clothes covered on the upper part of her body symbolize Sathwik, the marvelous red saree draped symbolizes Rajasik, and the beautiful blue clothes around the waist symbolize Thamasik nature.  Lord Bhrama was caught by the Rajasik nature engaged in the creation, the deities were caught by the Rajasik and Swathik enjoyed the pleasures of their respective abodes. Finally, the demons swollen with pride, ignorance, and arrogance of Thamasik nature fought against goodness. Lord Shankara was lured by the loveliness of Mohini, he forgot all the Yogic practices and started to chase her, it added flames of lust, desire, and anger in him, he forgot the moralities and shame, rushed after Mohini. The illustrious Sages, Shuka, Sanakadhis, and Rishis are overwhelmed by the powerful Maya of Lord Sri Hari and eventually rushed to the forest to conduct austerities and penance. Oh! Prabho, your unconquerable Maya is beyond description, none could get rid of her clutches, your Maya does not leave a single soul, even though someone is in deep sleep/free from worldly matters, she would take away his/her sleep, she induces various attributes, interest in infinite Shabdha/sound, Sparsha/touch, Rasa/passion, Roopa/appearance, and Gandha/smell, and completely steal his/her intellect. She would compel the Jeeva to engage in various sins, she influences the Jeeva to perform various religious and spiritual rites yearning for fruitful results. She would encourage the Jeeva to take pleasure in worldly matters, thereby pushing the souls into constant suffering and grief, eventually, the Jeeva would hurl into repeated births. Oh! Prabho, your Maya is indescribable, she would push the youth to indulge in various passions and multiplies their interest in worldly matters, she does not leave them for a minute, would follow them like the body and shadow. Oh! Prabho, your Maya has taken complete control over the creatures in Water, Air, and space. Oh! Shyamasundhara, Oh! Chathurshiromani/intelligent one, Oh! Nandhanandhan, how did I describe the state of the Jeeva drenched in the Maya? She does not worry about the clan or righteousness; she has taken the whole Universe and its living and non-living things under her control. The Jeeva gets shackled by your Maya with or without the knowledge about her. Oh! Prabho, I get anxious about the saying that Maya is inseparable from you, Oh! Shyamasundhara, kindly instructs her not to trouble the Jeeva who has already surrendered at your lotus feet.”
