Chapter
– 149- Sur -Vinaya – Pathrika – The
significance of constant recitation of ‘Sri Ramanama’ to get rid of grief and
suffering
Sri
Surdas Maharaj speaks “ Who has not achieved devotion and
liberation from the sufferings and grief of worldly existence, after reciting
the ‘Sri Ramanama’? Oh! Mortals! Even the grave sinner has attained liberation
from fear of repeated births and sufferings of worldly existence. 1)The prostitute/Ganika
has attained Mukthi by mere listening to the ‘Sri Ramanama’ sung by the parrot
which was bought from the devotee of Lord Sri Hari and was well taken care of
her, and 2) the Hunter/Byadh who shot an arrow at the thumb feet of Lord Sri
Krishna mistaking that of baby deer, while the Lord was returning to the abode
of Sri Baikundam, even that hunter has attained liberation from worldly
existence. The illustrious Maharishi Vedavyasa who is the composer of the
glorious eighteen Puranas, and Upapuranas did not achieve serenity of mind
after writing various sacred texts, finally, he attained supreme bliss after
the composition of the glorious legend of Srimad Bhagavath which elaborately
describes the birth of Lord Sri Krishna and his various amusements. Oh! Mortals, the worship of that supreme Lord
is conducted in any of the nine types of devotion/Navadhabhakthi, surprisingly
the Lord graces his devotees the way he has perceived and worshiped, ultimately
the supreme Lord yearns for a pure love from his devotee, and nothing else. Oh! Mortals, there is no use in giving charity
of gold in the size of mount Meru without pure love and devotion at the lotus
feet of Lord Sri Krishna, the charity without devotion and faith at the lotus
feet of Lord and living hundreds and thousands of Yugas without the devotion are
equivalent, both will not bring the serenity of mind or fruitfulness in life.
The life without pure love and devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari hurl
the Jeeva/soul into constant miseries and grief of worldly existence and
repeated births.”
