Chapter – 257- Sur -Vinaya – Pathrika – The significance of
pure love and devotion at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari
Sri Surdas
Maharaj speaks “Oh! Prabho, Oh! Jagathpathi, you are the Lord of the Universe
and its living and non-living things, Oh! Prabho, I have taken shelter at your
lotus feet, leaving the worship of demi-gods, like the Chathaka bird drinks the
droplets from the Swathi Nakshatra, abandoning the rest, I have taken up the practice
of meditation and contemplation at your marvelous form. Oh! Prabho, I am dull-minded
and ignorant, like the fish abandons its life without the water, the Chakora
bird waits for the full-moon day without blinking its eyes, and the fireflies easily
get attracted to the fire, and burnt into ashes. The fortunate Jeeva takes up
austerities, vows, and celibacy, Dhama, Shama, Sathyam, Dhaya, Dhanam, Dhyanam,
Ahimsa, Arjjavam, Astheyam, etc. don’t give up their austerities. Oh! Prabho, I
have developed pure love at your lotus feet, I have no one to protect me other
than you, hence where do I go? Oh! Prabho, the forest fire like the words of
wicked men burning me, I have driven afar from your lotus feet, got attached to
the worldly matters of possession, richness, fame, wealth, children, wife,
companion and relatives, of fleeting nature, and thrown constantly into the
three kinds of grief/Thapathraya.”
