Sri Subramanya Bhujangam by Sri Adishankaracharya – Lyrics and meanings

|| Jai Sriman Narayana ||

I shall meditate upon Lord Ganesha who has the form of a child, he is the destroyer of mountain of obstacles, he has elephant face and he is worshiped by Lord Shiva, Lord Bhrama, Lord Indra, I shall earnestly pray to Lord Ganesha to provide us all the auspiciousness.  I am not aware of prose or poetry, sounds or meanings, but I shall envision the supreme form of Lord Subramanya who has six faces, and it is surprising that the words flowing out of my face without my knowledge.  I shall meditate upon Lord Subramanya who has peacock as celestial vehicle, he is the essence of sacred hymns, he is charismatic, he dwells in the minds of virtuous people, he is worshiped by Bhramins, he is the essence of Veda, and he is the son of Lord Mahadeva and protector of the Universe.  I shall eulogize the glories of Lord Subramanya who declares the eternal truth that whoever surrenders to his feet would easily cross the ocean of Samsara, he dwells in the sea shore, he is the son of Goddess Parashakthi, and he is unblemished.  I shall meditate upon Lord Subramanya who eradicates the perils of his passionate devotees like the huge waves throw themselves into the ocean.  I shall meditate upon Lord Subramanya who declares the fact that whoever visits his dwelling places located in high peaks would be protected, he blissfully resides on the peak of Gandhashailam I shall earnestly pray to Lord Subramanya to provide us all the happiness.  I shall surrender to supreme Lord Subramanya who destroys severe perils and sins, he merrily dwells on the caves of  Sugandhashailam and spreading immense bliss to the Rishis and sages living on the sea shore, he has supreme brilliance, he is the destroyer of sorrows and grief of his ardent devotees.  I shall meditate upon Lord Subramanya who provides abundance of boons to his passionate devotees, he is majestically seated on the gem studded throne inside the sanctum of the golden palace which is decorated with various fresh alluring flowers, he has the brilliance of numerous Adithyas of early morning hours, he is the Lord of Lords, and he is Lord Karthikeya.  I shall meditate upon the lotus feet of Lord Subramanya whose crimson colored lotus feet is venerated by the sacred hymns of Rishis and Sages, I shall earnestly pray to Lord Subramanya to provide  us eternal happiness to the bee like our hearts which is worn out of  the sorrows and grief of Samsara.  I shall meditate upon Lord Subramanya who has supreme brilliance, he is decked in marvelous waist belt which makes jingling noises, and he is decked in various precious ornaments all over his body.   I shall prostrate before Lord Subramanya who is decorated with the vermilion and rich fragrances from the embrace and touch of high raised bosom of Goddess Valli who is incarnated as hunter girl, he is always cautions to protect his passionate devotees; he is the slayer of demon Tharakasura.  I shall surrender to the powerful arms of Lord Subramanya who is the store house of virtues and austerities; he is the commander of the Universe, he is superior to Lord Yama, he is the destroyer of enemies of Lord Indra, he is always prepared and clever in ruling the three worlds.  I shall meditate upon Lord Subramanya who has six faces resembles to the flawless luster of six full moons.  I shall envision the supreme form of Lord Subramanya with six lotus faces which is lustrous with beautiful smile resembles to the swan, movement of his beautiful eyes resembles to the pack of honey bees, his attractive lips resembles to the stream of nectar.  I shall meditate upon Lord Subramanya, who has beautiful and compassionate long and stretched twelve eyes up to ears, Oh! Compassionate Lord, does it make any harm if you shower a fleeting look on me?  I shall prostrate before Lord Subramanya who is affectionately embraced by Lord Shiva, he is decked in magnificent crown that spread intense luster and he is the sole commander who carries the weight of the Universe.  I shall meditate upon Lord Subramanya who is decorated in various precious ornaments, he is decked in marvelous ear rings, he is attired in magnificent silk garments, he is wielded in powerful weapon known as Shakthi/spear, I shall earnestly pray to Lord Subramanya who is the son of Lord Shiva to appear before us.    I shall meditate upon little Subramanya who affectionately rushes towards to Lord Shiva from the lap of his mother, he is warmly embraced by Lord Shiva. Oh! Kumara, Oh! Guha, Oh! Skandha, Oh! Senapathe, Oh! Shakthipane, Oh! Mayooradhirooda, Oh! Pulindhathmaja Oh! Kantha, Oh! Bhaktharthi Harin,  I shall earnestly pray to Lord Subramanya to  protect us always.  Oh! Dhayalo,  Oh! Guha, while I am in death bed with no conscious, or movements or feelings, with full of fear, Oh! Compassionate Lord, you should appear before me.  Oh! Mayooradhirooda, Oh! Shakthipane, while the dreadful emissaries of Lord Yama tortures, you should appear swiftly on your celestial vehicle peacock before me, with the powerful weapon spear and console me.  Oh! Kripabdhe, I shall surrender to you and prostrate before your lotus feet several times, I shall earnestly pray not to refuse me when I am in real need.  Oh! Prabho, you are the destroyer of the powerful demons like Shoorapadma, Tharakasura, Simhavakthra etc… why you are not willing to destroy the sorrows and grief of us? Where did I seek protection?  I am completely worn out of sorrows and grief; you are the closest associate of distressed people, Oh! Son of Goddess Sri Parvathi,  I shall earnestly pray to eradicate our sorrows and grief which creates impediments of the devotion at your lotus feet.  Oh! Slayer of demon Tharakasura, even the severe illnesses like epilepsy, leprosy, etc… will run away at the brilliance of your fierce weapon sword.  I shall earnestly pray to envision the most attractive form of Lord Subramanya at all times,  Oh! Skandha, I shall earnestly pray to listen to your glorious verses at all times, I shall eulogize the glories of your lotus feet at all times, my hands engages in the veneration of you, my body engages in the service of you and all my actions immerse in the service of Lord Subramanya.   Oh! Guha, The deities and Rishis would bless abundance of pieties to their devotees, Oh! Guha, I am not aware of any deity other than you, who provides yourself even to the ignorant people.  Oh! Kumara, I shall earnestly pray for my family, Kalathram/wife, Puthran/children, Bandhus/relatives, Pashu/domestic animals, and all the females and males in the home should remain ardent devotees of you, they should prostrate before your lotus feet and immerse in the recitation of your glories.  Oh! Kraunchashaila, who thrashed the mountain Krauncha,  I shall earnestly pray to tear down the birds, animals and reptiles, and illnesses that torture our mind and body, that should be destroyed by the fierce weapon/spear of you.  Oh! Devasenadhi Natha, it is not a surprising fact that the mother and father who forgives the mistakes of their children,  I am an ignorant child and you are the father of the three worlds, you are the Lord of the Universe therefore I shall earnestly pray to forgive all my mistakes.  Oh!
