Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Prabho, Oh! Sri Hari, I am helpless, my senses are not under my control, I have been chasing after the infinite sound, passion, smell, touch, and appearance in the Universe, I get attached to worldly matters and throw myself into extreme pain and agony, I am drenched in lust, desire, ego, pride, anger, jealousy, Ahamkara, and Mamakara. Alas! don’t know many births have taken in various wombs, alas! my chase for material and physical pleasures hasn’t reduced a bit. Oh! Prabho, I am an unfortunate Jeeva, did not strive to achieve the precious birth as a human to attain the four Purusharththa, I did not practice devotion, or sing in praise of your sacred legends or sacred names, I did not perform austerities, vows, celibacy, Japa, Thapa, Dhyanam, Dhaya, Astheyam, Arjjavam, Ahimsa, Sathyam, Shama, Dhama, etc. my mind was chasing after the worldly matters of fleeting nature. Oh! Prabho, you are the all-pervasive Bhramam that resides as the soul in the Jeeva, you are the knower of All, you are supreme spirit dwells in the middle of the heart, you are the source of the functioning of the mind, intellect, Chiththa, Ahamkara, Prana/vital air, Karma and Gnanendhriya etc…  You could have restricted my mind, and bring back into senses, why don’t you do that? My mind has been unrestricted for so long, hence I have committed several sins by words, mind, and deed. Oh! Prabho, I have already surrendered at your lotus feet, I am helpless lying on your doorsteps kindly take complete control over my mind, and liberate me from the sufferings and grief of worldly existence.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Prabho, Oh! Sri Hari, I have already surrendered at your lotus feet, Oh! Kripanidhan, kindly shower your kind and compassionate grace upon me, like the grace that liberated many sinners from suffering and grief. Oh! Prabho, my Karma and Gnanendhriyas/sensory organs – 1) The five sensory organs/Karmendhriyas - eyes that wandered to see all unwanted and ugly things, the nose that chased after ugly smells, the hands, and legs that put into action for immoral acts, ears that chased for gossips, rumors, etc. Oh! Prabho, my senses were playing percussions, and string instruments of their own taste, according to its own Laya, Shruthi, and Raga, and forced my mind to play like a fine dancer, I was chasing after material matters to please my senses, unfortunately, I haven’t succeeded yet. Oh! Prabho, I am worn out of dancing to the tune of senses, chasing after the worldly matters of possession, wealth, money, fame, richness, children, wife, companion, and relatives, that constantly pushed me into grief and agony. Oh~! Prabho, I was floating through the waves of the impurities of mind such as Kama/lust, Krodha/anger, Lobha/greed, Moha/desire, Madha/pride, hence I never thought of Purusharththa/how to achieve the Dharma/righteousness, ARththa/wealth, Kama/desire and Moksha/liberation from repeated births. Oh! Prabho, I am an unfortunate Jeeva, my impurities of mind threw me into eighty-four lakhs types of the womb of air-born, water-born, and creatures, and forced me to dance to the tune of my senses, even after taking several births in various wombs, my desire to please the senses have not come to an end or I have not felt peace and serenity, or contentment in my life.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “ Oh! Prabho, Oh! Jagadheeshwar/Lord of the Universe and its living and non-living things, I have no wealth other than the recitation of your sacred names which is the fruit of all the piousness, If I leave that I would be worthless, after giving a thought for long, according to my intellect I have chosen the recitation of your sacred names. Oh! Prabho, I have chosen the recitation of ‘Sri Ramanama’ which is the essence of Veda, Shruthi, Smrithi, and sacred scriptures which is the life source of Santh, Mahathma, noble souls, etc. like the fishes that have no life without water.  Oh! Prabho, the Ashtasidhdhis/ the eight kinds of supernatural powers such as Anima/transforms the body into a minuscule form, Mahima/transforms the body into an incredibly large size, Garima/transforms the body into a supremely heavy, Laghima/transforms the body into supremely light, Ishithvam/ achieve the Lordship with the practice of austerities and penance,  Vasithvam/ possessing absolute control on the mind of another person by austerities, Prapthi/it is kind of practice to achieve access to all worlds and Prakamyam/the power to know the desires of another person, and Navanidhis such as the nine types of treasures known as  Mahapadmam,  Padmam, Sankham, Makaram, Kacchapam, Mukundam, Kundam, Neelam, Varam, the wealth and treasures of the deities /Lord Kubera achieved after severe austerities and penances are impermanent. Oh~! Prabho, the Bhramin Ajamila, Ganika/prostitute, Gheedh/Jatayu, Byadh/hunter, Nriga, etc. have committed several sins, achieved your grace, and eventually attained liberation from the sufferings of worldly existence. Oh! Prabho, you are the ocean of mercy, kindly provide the tiniest part of that grace upon me, so that I can get rid of the grief and sufferings of Samsarasagara and repeated births.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Prabho, you are too kind and compassionate, you are the protector of Jeeva even without the practice of Bhakti/devotion, that’s why I am at your doorstep. Oh! Prabho, you have liberated several sinners from the sufferings of worldly existence, I am not different from them. I have spoken sweet words to influence others, my heart was not pure and I did not follow religious and spiritual rites, I was shackled by Karma and attributes as any other Jeeva, I was chasing after material and physical pleasures, and constantly committed sins by words, mind, and deeds. Oh! Prabho, I had dressed up like a saintly person and robbed the wealth of others, I was not sincere, or honest, I have no love for religious rites or belief, or righteousness, I was declaring myself a noble soul, in this way, I have lived all my life portraying myself as a pious. I was not free from lust, desire, ego, greed, jealousy, pride, anger, Ahamkara, and Mamakara, hence I yearned for physical pleasure day and night. Oh! Prabho, I am ignorant, dull-minded, and arrogant, I haven’t practiced the austerities, vows, celibacy, truthfulness, self-control, etc. I have committed crimes to fill my stomach, I engaged in constant arguments with my family, relatives, and companions, I have eaten all those unwanted, and unhealthy meals that do not worthy to eat, and put myself in constant grief. Oh! Prabho, I haven’t followed any austerities or discipline in all my life, hence I had to take several births in different wombs, and thereby accumulated attributes and sins. Oh! Prabho, I was wicked and deceitful, the flame of my cunningness in my heart did not put off even after witnessing the hellish torture in the abode of Lord Yama/afterlife. Oh! Prabho, I have spoken ill about the Santh, Mahathma, and noble souls who engage in constant meditation, austerities, and contemplation. I was drenched in Maya/illusion, I was associated with the morally wrong people, I was haughty and arrogant, and the possession of wealth, richness, money, fame, children, wife, companion, relatives, etc. made me forget about ‘Time’, the eternal truth that all the living and non-living things are bound by time/The absolute truth/Paramarththa Thaththva/ I have completely forgotten the fact that the noose of death hanging above my head from the day of birth. Oh! Prabho, I was engaged in debates with fellow scholars, as I was born in a family of twice-born, I won over them and the success got into my head. Oh! Prabho, I do not know how many births I have taken in different Yonis of low and high class, Alas! I have taken great pleasure living in that body in each birth, did not have the knowledge of absolute truth, I have lived a life in utter misery chasing after worldly matters, Oh! Sri Hari, I have never practiced the worship of your lotus feet. Oh! Manmohan, kindly protect me, I have taken shelter at your lotus feet, I am your sincere servant. I was soaked in material and physical pleasures like the donkey and dog, and constantly shoving myself into the flame of the toxic poison of worldly matters. Oh! Prabho, you have endless virtues, likewise, I have committed endless sins, we cannot argue with each other, that would stain your virtues. Oh! Sri Hari, I have committed several sins by words, mind, and deeds, even now I would rush to anyone who elevates me from the sins, I did not achieve the firm devotion at your lotus feet. Oh! Prabho, I am impure, I have taken shelter at your lotus feet with a selfish motive to get released from the grief and sufferings of worldly existence. Oh! Prabho, I am unfortunate, I haven’t achieved the pure love and devotion at your lotus feet yet.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Prabho, you are the destroyer of grief and sufferings of worldly existence, Oh! Shyamasundara, Oh! Madhanmohan, you are the protector of distraught Jeeva, it is your nature. Oh! Prabho, your childhood friend pious Bhramin Sudhama visited you in Dwaraka, you rushed on your feet to receive that penniless Bhramin, you showered an abundance of affection, you received him with great honor, spent the whole night fanning him, finally you blessed him with the richness of Indra. Oh! Prabho, the Kauravas always plotted against the Pandavas, once Bhimsen was poisoned to death, you protected him, and another time Dhuryodhana influenced Yudhishtira to live in the palace made of wax and set them on fire, but Pandavas miraculously escaped with your grace, you have always been kind to the Pandavas who symbolizes righteousness. Oh! Prabho, Oh! Sri Krishna, you have protected the Vrajabhumi from the fierce flood and rain, you have elevated mounted Govardhan on your little finger and protected the entire people, cows, and cowherds of Vrajabhumi. Oh! Prabho, I am singing in praise of your glories, your sacred names are ferries to cross the ocean of worldly existence.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Prabho, Oh! Sri Hari, if there’s someone or another deity to protect me from the sufferings of worldly existence, why should I keep knocking at your doors? The Jeevas keep praying and worshiping Lord Bhrama, Lord Shiva, and all the deities, demons, demi-gods, Nagas, and Rishis remain unanswered, Oh! Prabho, I was wandering thirsty, and hungry like an animal, but no one removed my sufferings, I was drenched in illusion, and ignorance, got attracted to those infinite sounds, passion, touch, appearances, and smell of impermanent nature, I was shackled by Karma and attributes/Rajasik, Thamsik, and Sathvik, I was recklessly moving like the failed chariot. I have driven afar from you, Purusharththaheen/failed to achieve the four ultimate objectives of life such as Dharma/righteousness, Arththa/wealth, Kama/desire, and Moksha/liberty. I was chasing after the material and physical pleasures, and constantly pushed myself into grief and agony/three kinds of grief like the untamed elephant got stuck in a pool of mud. I have committed several sins by words, deeds, and mind while chasing possession, wealth, richness, fame, money, children, wife, companion, and relatives. Oh! Prabho, I was soaked in worldly matters, so I was sincerely following my senses and did whatever I could to appease them, unfortunately, I have never been successful. I was like the monkey in the hands of its Master/senses. Oh! Prabho, Oh! Sri Hari, I am unfortunate Jeeva driven far away from your lotus feet, I am a grave sinner, ignorant drenched in the Maya/illusion/ sinking at the bottom of the ocean of worldly matters, finally, I have got trapped in the noose of Yama/Lord of death/Time, as the blind goat stuck before the fox. I have been like the ‘owl’ that does not appreciate the sunlight, I did not practice devotion, meditation, austerities, Shama, Dhama, Sathyam, Dhaya, Dhanam, Dhyanam, Astheyam, Ahimsa, Arjjavam, Swadhyaya, singing in praise of Lord Sri Hari, celibacy, vows, etc. Oh! Prabho, I am an unfortunate dull-minded Jeeva, I was soaked in Maya/illusion, I have considered all the infinite matters are permanent, the wealth, richness, money, fame, possession, children, wife, companion, and relatives are real, I was keep chasing to please my senses, but never got satisfied. Oh! Thrithapa Harana/who removes the three kinds of grief 1) Adhidheivik-grief caused by an epidemic, famine, drought, flood, earthquakes, wood fire, etc. 2) Adhyathmik- grief caused by aging, illnesses, fear of death, and separation from beloved ones 3) Adhibhauthik -grief caused by the excessive attachment to possession, wealth, money, richness, children, fame, wife, companion and relatives, and in the absence of any of the above. Oh! Sri Hari, Oh! Karunamaya/mercy personified, you are the savior of the distressed Jeeva, Oh! Prabho, you can only protect me from the sufferings and grief of this Kali era.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh~!Prabho, Oh! Sri Hari, why don’t you treat me as your own child? even if the child makes several mistakes, the mother is always forgiving to her child, she won’t accept her child as mischievous. Oh! Prabho, you are the cause of the Universe and its living and non-living things, you are the savior of the Universe, you are that supreme Bhramam resides as a soul in the Jeeva, you are the source of the functioning of the mind, intellect, chithth, Ahamkara, vital air/Prana, Karma and Gnanendhriyas/sensory organs, etc. you are the protector of the fetus in the mother’s womb. Oh! Prabho, you are the one who protected me while I was in the tiny dark space of my mother’s womb, I was helpless due to extreme heat and cold, and the upper part of my head was covered in the excreta and worms, I was restlessly moving inside my mother’s womb, how could you leave me now? Oh! Prabho, Lord Shankara gracefully swallowed the ‘Halahal’/the toxic poison initiated while churning the milky ocean for nectar by the deities and demon, Lord Mahadeva adorned the deadly poison on his neck/Neelkand Mahadev, why do not you release me from the toxic sins? Oh! Prabho, you are the ocean of mercy, protector of the distressed souls, I was ignorant, hence I have been chasing after the material and physical pleasures of fleeting nature, thus I have wasted precious birth as a human attached to the worldly matters of possession, richness, fame, wife, children, companion, relatives, etc. I did not utilize the precious birth for the practice of devotion, worship of Lord Sri Hari, singing in praise of Lord Sri Hari, or reciting the sacred names of the Lord, Oh! Prabho, you are Pathitha Pavan/protector of the soul, and I am helpless, worn out of grief and sufferings of worldly existence, kindly protect me.”
