Sri Dhakshinamoorthi Sthothram – Lyrics and meanings

|| Jai Sriman Narayana ||

I shall meditate upon supreme Lord Dhakshinamoorthi who is youthful, seated in complete silence, he symbolizes Parambhramam who imparts the knowledge of philosophies of absolute Bhramam, he is surrounded by illustrious Rishi Vashishta and Sages who strictly follows the rules of Bhramam, with utmost devotion and dedication, he is supreme preceptor, his hands are in Chinmudhra posture that reveals supreme wisdom and knowledge, he is supreme bliss, he is immersed in a state of bliss, he has pleasing disposition.  I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Dhakshinamoorthi who is seated under the Vatavriksham/baniyan tree, all the Rishis and Sages are assembled before the supreme Lord who imparts the knowledge of absolute wisdom, he is Lord Dhakshinamoorthi who is Universal preceptor, he eradicates the miseries and sorrows of repeated births and deaths.   I shall meditate upon Lord Dhakshinamoorthi who is youthful, seated under Vatavriksham, he is seated in utter silence as well as clearing the doubts of his disciples in silence, and he is surrounded by elderly Sages and Rishis.   I shall prostate before supreme Lord Dhakshinamoorthi who symbolizes wisdom and knowledge, he is the greatest cure for the sufferings of worldly existence, he is universal preceptor.  I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Dhakshinamoorthi who is the essence of  Pranava and refined knowledge and wisdom, he is pure and serene.  I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Dhakshinamoorthi  who is absolute consciousness, he is Mahesha who is seated under Vatavriksha, he is supreme bliss.  I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Dhakshinamoorthi, who is divine personified as universal preceptor, he dwells as soul in living beings, he breaks the difference between Ishvara- Guru –Athman, and he has great body that is spreaded all over the sky.  I shall prostrate before Lord Dhakshinamoorthi who is divine personified as Universal preceptor, he imparts the knowledge about the Universe which appears as city in the mirror, and he imparts the knowledge of self/Athman which is compleltely soaked in illusion, finally awakens with the knowledge of self from supreme Lord. I shall prostrate before Lord Dhakshinamoorthi who is divine personified as Universal preceptor, Universe is appear as Beejam/Anda, undergoes transformation, filled with illusions like cities, time and space, Mahayogi will realize the truth of existence of Maya all over the Universe and explores at his own will. I shall prostrate before Lord Dhakshinamoorthi who is divine personified as Universal precepetor, he imparts the knowledge of Athman described in the Veda as Thathvamasi, and person who has attained the supreme knowledge will get relieved from delusion of worldly existence. I shall prostrate before Lord Dhakshinamoorthi who is divine personified as Universal preceptor, refined knowledge is like the light kept inside the pot with holes,  sense organs gives out intense radiance, similiarly refined knowledge will shines out spreading its radiance  all over the Universe. I shall prostrate before Lord Dhakshinamoorthi who is divine personified as Universal preceptor, he eradicates  the influence of Maya and various misconceptions like body as Prana, sense organ, intellect, ignorance, woman, child, blind, lifeless, wise and unwise etc.. I shall prostrate before Lord Dhakshinamoorthi who is divine personified as Universal preceptor, the pure consciousness is soaked in delusion like sun and moon undergoes eclipse due to the influence of Rahu, only the wise/elevated soul realizes the existence of pure consciousness, and it is possible only through spiritual awakening. I shall prostrate before Lord Dhakshinamoorthi who is divine personified as Universal preceptor, Athman which attained the spiritual awakening remains pure even though it has to go through the various stages of life like childhood, adulthood, and aged, likewise various state of life like awake, sleep and dream. I shall prostrate before Lord Dhakshinamoorthi who is divine personified as Universal preceptor, all pervading Purusha is truth, existence of illusion causes various changes in the Universe as well as Athman such as cause and effect, possession and possessor, disciple and teacher, father and son, state of dream and awake, etc.. I shall prostrate before Lord Dhakshinamoorthi who is divine personified as Universal preceptor, his eight manifestations such as Earth, Water, Fire, Ether, Air, Space, Sun, Moon, and soul, he is the source of all living and non-living, only the elevated soul realize the absolute truth.  The above verses describes the essence of Athman, whoever listens or recites, or contemplate upon it would remain elevated soul who has the knowledge of self and God-reliazation,  and the worshiper would attain abundance of devoutness.
