Sri Jagannatha Ashtakam – Lyrics and meanings

|| Jai Sriman Narayana ||

Oh! Jagannatha, kindly shower your auspicious grace on us, I shall meditate upon Lord Jagannatha who takes immense pleasure in exploring through the river banks of Kalindhi, and takes immense joy in playing melodious music on his flute, he takes immense delight like a honey bee on the lotus like face of young maidens of Vraja, his lotus feet are venerated by  Goddess Rama, Shambhu, Bhrama, Lord Indhra, Amaras, and Ganesha.  Oh! Jagannatha kindly shower your auspicious grace on us, I shall meditate upon Lord Jagannatha who carries flute on his hand, his attractive curly hair locks are decorated with the feathers of peacock, he is attired in finest garments and throw side ways glances on his companions, he resides on the sacred land of Vrindavan and takes immense pleasure in the amorous sport with the young maidens of Vraja.  Oh! Jagannatha kindly shower your auspicious grace on us, I shall meditate upon Lord Jagannatha who resides on highest peak of Neeladhri located on the shores of great ocean, he has great effulgence like precious yellow metal, he resides in the majestic palace with his elder brother Balabadhra and sister Subhadhra in the middle, in this way he gives out the highest of fortune to the deities to worship him.  Oh! Jagannatha kindly shower your auspicious grace on us, I shall meditate upon Lord Jagannatha, he symbolizes ocean of mercy, he has the complexion of dark clouds, he provides immense delight to the lotus like faces of  Goddess Rama and Vani, he is worshiped by Surendhra, he is the essence of Veda and he is eulogized by Veda.  Oh! Jagannatha kindly shower your auspicious grace on us, he is Parambhrama, his eyes has the appearance of fully blossomed lotus flower petals, he resides on the peak of Neeladhri, his lotus feet are placed on the hood of serpent Anantha, he takes immense pleasure in the amorous sport with the yound maidens of Vraja and in the embrace of Radharani.  Oh! Jagannatha, kindly shower your auspicious grace on us, I do not request for Kingdom or possession of abundance of precious gems, or majestic palace, or attractive bride or bridegroom, I shall always ask for the fortune to eulogize your endless glories at all times.  Sri Jagannatha Ashtakam is highly propicious hymn should be recited during the early hours of dawn after following ablutions, it eradicates all the sins of the worshiper; ultimately resides in the supreme abode of Lord Vishnu.
