Sri Kalikahridhayam – Sri Dhakshin Mahakali Hridhaya Sthothram – Lyrics and meanings

Sri Mahakala speaks “ Oh! Priye, the sacred hymns praising the splendor of  Sri Dhakshin Mahakali  known as Kalika Hridhayam is highly propitious and superior among hymns, it is highly confidential, listen to me carefully.  Oh! Shailaje, I shall disclose those highly confidential hymns to please you, otherwise it will remain top secret always.”

Sri Devi Parvathi speaks “ Oh! Shambho, Oh! Dhayanidhe/compassionate Lord, Oh! Maheshvara, kindly narrate those glorious hymns in detail composed in which Yuga?”


Sri Mahakala speaks “ Oh! Priye, I was afflicted with the sin of Bhramahathya after cutting off the head of Dhakshaprajapathi, hence the sin of Bhramahathya troubled Bhairava, these are the glorious hymns were composed by me during those days in order to get rid of the sin of  Bhramahathya.  Sri Dhakshin Mahakali Hridhayam is highly auspicious hymns composed by Mahakala Rishi, it has Ushnik as Chandhass, Sri Dhakshin Kalika is presiding deity, Kreem as Beejam, Hreem as Shakthi, Nama:  as Keelakam, it should be recited always.”

|| Hridhayadhinyasa: ||

“ I shall prostrate before Goddess Sri Dhakshin Mahakali, I shall pronounce the sacred syllable ‘Om Kram’ and offer humble salutation with my heart,  I shall prostrate before Goddess Sri Dhakshin Mahakali, I shall pronounce the sacred syllable ‘Om Kreem’ and offer humble salutation with my head, I shall prostrate before Goddess Sri Dhakshin Mahakali, I shall pronounce the sacred syllable ‘Om Kroom’ and offer humble salutation with my tuft, I shall prostrate before Goddess Sri Dhakshin Mahakali, I shall pronounce the sacred syllable ‘ Om Kraim’ and assume it as sacred armor, I shall prostrate before Goddess Sri Dhakshin Mahakali, I shall pronounce the sacred syllable’ Om Kraum’ and offer humble salutation with my eyes, I shall prostrate before Goddess Sri Dhakshin Mahakali, I shall pronounce the sacred syllable ‘ Om Kra:’ and assume it as sacred Asthra.

 || Dhyanam ||

I shall meditate upon supreme Goddess Sri Dhakshin Mahakali  who is Mahamaya, she has three eyes, she has numerous forms, she has powerful four arms, her tongue is insatiable, her face has the luster of full moon, she has the complexion of blue lily, she destroys the mass of enemies, she is decked in garland of skulls, she carries Gadgam and lotus flower in her hands, one hand in Varadhahastha posture, her face is soaked in blood, she has fierce protruding teeth, she has dreadful appearance, she produces defeaning noises, she is omnipresent, she is attired in directions as garments, she is mounted on corpse, she is divine personified as Dhakshin Mahakali who is decked in garlands of skull, Goddess Dhakshin Mahakali should be eulogized before reciting the sacred hymns of Hridhayam.”

Sri Mahakala continues “  I shall prostrate before Goddess Sri Mahakalika  who has dreadful appearances, she fulfils all the desires of her worshiper, she is worshiped by all the deities, kindly eradicate our enemies, I shall meditate upon Goddess Sri Mahakalika who symbolize ‘Hreem Hreem Swaroopa’ she is supreme Goddess, she is not easily perceivable for the three worlds, I have remembered your glories due to my intense devotion and affection towards you. Oh! Paramathmike who is capable to make the soul Jeevanmuktha by just rememberance, I shall meditate upon your lotus feet to appease you. I shall meditate upon Goddess Sri Dhakshin Mahakali who is adorned in serpent as sacred thread across her chest, she is decked in crescent moon on her forehead, she has attractive long matted hair locks, she is inseparable from Mahakala,  Oh! Varanane/ beautiful faced, I shall repeatedly promise you that whoever meditate upon Goddess Dhakshin Mahakali would attain liberation from repeated births, worship of Goddess Sri Dhakshin Mahakali in the prescribed form with Yanthra  will provide all that desired by the worshiper, but it is highly auspicious and  confidential as well, worship of Goddess Sri Dhakshin Mahakali  by drawing Kaliyanthram in the form of Thrikonam, or Panchakam or  Ashtakamalam on the clean dias, along with the skull and sacrificial fire, and recitation of the sacred hymns/Namamala should be followed always.  She is Kali/Dhakshinkali who has the complexion of heavy rain clouds, she is Paramathmika, she is decked in Mundamala/garland of skulls, she has wide beautiful eyes, she is the cause of creation as well as destruction of the Universe and its living beings, she  preserves Universe and its living beings, she is Mahamaya who is a great illusionist, she undergoes Yoganidhra/cosmic sleep, she symbolizes prosperity, she takes immense pleasure in the consumption of nectar, she represents prosperity as well as passionate sport, she is primordial deity, she is permanent, she is young, she is dreadful, she is Karalika/fierce who has great effulgence, she carries corpse in her hands, she symbolizes Siddhi, Lakshmi, and Saraswathi, she is restrained, Oh! Maheshvari, I shall repeatedly promise you that these are the garlands of sacred names of Goddess Sri Dhakshin Mahakali should be recited always on daily basis, worshiper would remain servant of passionate servants of Goddess Sri Dhakshin Mahakali,  I shall meditate upon Goddess Sri Dhakshin Mahakali who eradicates untimely and accidental deaths, she is decked in garland of skulls and corpse, she represents Kala, she is beyond Yuga, she is fond of sour rice, she resides in the vital air and flowers, she takes immense pleasure in the amorous sport, she is fierce, I shall prostrate before supreme Goddess Kalika who is a great female messenger, she is Mahadhoothi, she is Para who is Yogeshwari as well, she immerses in the act of female messenger and Yoga, I shall prostrate before Goddess Sri Dhakshin Mahakali who is personified as Mahadhoothi, after reciting the sacred syllable ‘Kreem’ and sprinkling of water would eradicate all kinds of illnesses, pronouncing the syllable ‘Kreem Swaha’ and veneration of Goddess Kalika with sandalwood paste and vermilion would make the worshiper dutiful, Oh! Priye, pronouncing the sacred syllable ‘Kreem Hoom Hreem’ and offer Akshatha/yellow unbroken rice, would eradicate intense fears, pronouncing the sacred syllable ‘Hroom , Hreem, Kreem,’ and placing the flowers seven times would change the attitude of enemies, pronouncing the sacred syllable ‘Kreem Kreem  Kreem’  and  place Akshatha would  attract a person from the thousands of Yojana in a great speed, pronouncing the sacred syllable ‘ Kreem Kreem Kreem Hroom Hroom  Hreem Hreem’ and venerates Jaganmohini with the Tilak and recite these hymns for seven times.  The recitation of sacred hymns of Sri Dhakshin Mahakali Hridhaya for once would remove all the sins of the worshiper, it is highly propitious, it provides pieties of crores and crores of Ashwamedha Yajja, crores and crores of performance of marriage of bride to a suitable bride groom, crores and crores of Dhoothi Yaga and various Yaga, crores and crores of merit of holy dip in Ganga and various sacred rivers.   She is Kaumari and she should be venerated in a prescribed manner, recitation of her sacred hymns would make the worshiper Jeevanmuktha/liberated soul,  Oh! Varanane, young maiden should recite these sacred hymns with intense devotion and faith would attain highest of the status in the abode of supreme Goddess Sri Dhakshin Mahakali. It is highly propitious to read these sacred hymns during the hours of extreme sufferings, agony, miseries and pain, persons afflicted with critical illnesses, during the hours of intense fears and anxieties.”
