Neethi Shathakam – Sri Bharthruhari
Virachitham
Chapter – 3 –Shaurya Padhdhathi
Oh! Jeeva, Shaurya/bravery /heroism is the valorous deed of taking control over an untamed elephant, and heavily bang on its forehead with the spear, in the same manner, the intellectuals and scholars/Mahatmas are highly distinguished, have perfect control over sense, the worldly matters and bondages like the untamed elephants, hence they resemble lion, the King of the forest, even if they have a shrunken body like the lion due to continuous starvation, and even if their body is attacked by Jara and skins are wrinkled, and bones are curved and visible, some of the bones are broken and weak due to the starvation and austerities of several years, veins are visible and weak, lost the brilliance of their faces, and the body is prepared to leave the Prana at any time, would they eat grass? This is called the heroism of the Mahathma.
The poet describes the interest in
worldly matters and bondage to the dogs that take great pleasure in the meatless and
rotten bones, Alas! It does not know that the meatless bone would not help to
wave off its hunger, other than bleed its teeth. In this way, excessive interest in worldly
matters, family, companion, relatives, wealth, richness, fame, wealth, etc.
could heave the Jeeva into endless miseries and sorrows only. The lions do not take pleasure in the tiny
jackal, even if it takes a seat close to the mouth of the lion; they ignore
the Jackal and hunt for elephants. In
the same manner, the noble souls/Mahathma do not take pleasure in worldly
matters or bondage, they constantly meditate and contemplate that supreme
Bhramam which is the permanent bliss. The Shaurya is not that getting pleased with whatever
served before or whatever easily available in the hands, it is the realization of
one’s own capacity and takes pleasure in which is suitable for individual
nature.
The dogs eat the meal served by its
master, and shows great affection in return with the movements of its tail and
stand before its Master obediently. The elephant stands majestically before its
Master, and look at his eyes, and consume the meal served after receiving a few
affectionate words from its Master. Jeevas is constantly under the clutches of
the Kalachakra, undergoes the repetitive process of death and birth, all that
died has to take birth again. In this way, all the Jeeva undergoes the cycles of
birth and death constantly, but the Punyapurusha/Mahathma are the noble souls
whose entire clan achieve the Shreyas of him/her, therefore the noble souls
adds the Shreyas to their clans and makes their life fruitful, others are merely
born to undergo worldly miseries and sorrows, and enjoy the momentary pleasure,
ultimately hurl themselves into the cycles of birth and death.
Usually, the noble souls will have the fate of the
bunch of flowers; either it decorates the head of the people or withers in the
forest itself. The noble souls either shine with their virtues and brilliant
knowledge in the society and lives in great respect, or they return to woods
and conduct extreme austerities and vow to attain that supreme Bhramam. Oh!
Jeeva, Sage Bhrihaspathi, and the planets are highly venerable, Rahu who has
face detached from the body is extremely valorous; causes eclipse to Surya and
Chandra during the Paurnami and Amavasya. The noble souls never get disappointed with
the disgrace; they do not challenge or argue with the people who do not have
equal status to them.
The serpent Anantha holds the fourteen
worlds of Athala, Vithala, Suthala, Thalathala, Rasathala, Mahathala, Pathala,
Bhoomi, Bhuvarloka, Suvarloka,
Maharloka, Janoloka, Thapoloka, and Sathyaloka on its hoods, and that serpent
Anantha was carried on the back of giant tortoise/Adhikoorm and the
Adhikoorma and the ocean were held by Adhivaraha. Alas! The glories of the
noble souls / Mahathma are indescribable, and their wealth of knowledge is
immeasurable as well. The mount Mainaka who is the son of Mount Himavan was
attacked by the powerful Vajrayudha of Lord Indra, it produced massive fire on
the Mount Mainaka that has become unbearable caused excruciating pain to Mount
Mainaka. Mount Himavan sunk in deep grief witnessing the agony of his son; soon
Mount Mainaka took shelter under the ocean. The noble souls are not like Mount Mainaka,
who did not fight against Indra, instead took shelter in the ocean in order to
save his father Mount Himavan from the grief, and set an example of a cowardice
act. The noble souls do not follow any of the cowardice acts, they are the real Heroes
fight against any circumstances in their lives.
The precious stone Suryakantha is lifeless, although it shines brilliantly in the rays of Sun, a brave person never tolerates the disgrace from others, and therefore it is wrong to put up with the disrespect. The lion cub has the nature of fearlessness, it is the identity of the King of lions, these lion cubs pounce upon the huge elephants and reveals its real nature and their age never stands as a hindrance to its bravery.
