phases of life and the significance of Sri Ramnama Ruchi
Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Prabho, my entire life has been wasted in worldly matters of infinite Shabda, Sparsha, Rasa, Roopa, and Gandha. Oh! Prabho, the three important phases of life such as Balyavastha/childhood, Kishoravastha/adulthood, and Tharunavastha/youthful days, were misused, now I have reached the later years of age, the lines on the forehead and grey hairs are visible, eyes have lost its sight, the hearing capacity has reduced, my limbs have become fragile, and it is not coordinating with the mind, my sense organs have lost its functioning. The access to the sacred waters of Ganga has been overlooked hence drinking the waters of the well, the faith in Lord Sri Hari has diminished and the worship of our own body has increased for the immediate fulfillment of desires. Oh! Prabho, I did not use the mind, words, and deed for singing in praise of the virtues of Lord Sri Hari, or serving the devotees of Lord and preceptors, or did not strive to achieve the Purusharththa/Dharma/righteousness, Arththa/wealth, Kama/desire, and Moksha/liberation from worldly existence. Oh! Ignorant, you have drenched in the Maya of Mayapathi, and driven afar from the grace of Lord Sri Hari. Oh! Mortals, slow down your chase for worldly matters of fleeting nature, otherwise, you would go through constant miseries and grief of worldly existence like the moon at the time of the eclipse, it’s a well-known legend that the Rahu does not leave causing afflictions on the moon and sun even after cutting off its body with the dice of Lord Sri Hari. Oh! Dull-minded, you can’t get rid of the sufferings of worldly existence without an interest in Ramanama Ruchi. Oh! Jeeva, the recitation of Ramanama does not cost you a single penny, why don’t you take interest in singing in praise of the Lord Sri Hari ?.”
