Sri Hanumath Ashtakam – Lyrics and meanings

I shall meditate upon the lotus feet of Lord Hanuman, who is too compassionate, kindly protect us, he  always stay close to  the lotus feet of Lord Raghunandhana who is illustrious King from the Raghu clan, his eyes has the appearance of lotus flower, he symbolizes auspiciousness, he has powerful hands, he destroys the enemies of Sura, he is highly scholastic, Oh! Dhaylo, kindly protect us. I shall meditate upon the lotus feet of Lord Hanuman, who is too compassionate, kindly protect us, he eradicates miseries and sorrows of worldly existence, he burns the grief of Samsara like bundle of feathers in to the colossal fire, he eradicates the accumulated sins of the worshiper who are immersed in the wordly bondage such as sons, wealth, relatives, properities etc.. Oh! Vibho kindly eradicate all those mass of impurities, I shall meditate upon the lotus feet of Lord Hanuman, who is too compassionate, kindly protect us.  Oh! Prabho, I have completely exhausted, falling deep inside the bottomless well of Samsara and tortured by the thousands of venomous serpents, I am in a wretched state falling deep  in to the unfathomable ocean of samsara, I shall meditate upon the lotus feet of Lord Hanuman, who is too compassionate, kindly protect us. Oh! Vibho I am completely perplexed by the powerful clutches of worldly desires in the ocean of Samara, I am too anxious and restless, I am in a miserable state after getting used to intoxicated drinks and several years have been passed going through the deceitful act, kindly eradicate all those impurities with the discus, kindly elevate my soul, I am in a pathetic state and I have no shelter place other than you. I shall meditate upon the lotus feet of Lord Hanuman, who is too compassionate, kindly protect us.  Oh! Punyamoorthe, I have been travelling through the dense wood of Smasara, I have been arrested by the brutal animals like passionate sport, I have been tortured by jealous, malicious acts, selfishness, hostility, anger, miseries, grief, disappointements, etc.. I shall meditate upon the lotus feet of Lord Hanuman, who is too compassionate, kindly protect us. Oh! Vibho, I have been morally wrong with no good deed, hanging on the huge tree of worldly existence with various branches, I have into various conflicts which brought only sorrows, and engaged in to inconceivable actions, Oh! Hare, I am an ignorant completely tortured by the worldly desires, I shall seek shelter at your lotus feet, kindly liberate me. I shall meditate upon the lotus feet of Lord Hanuman, who is too compassionate, kindly protect us.  Oh! Vibho, I am tortuned by the fierce teeth of the venmous serpent like worldly existence, I am fighting for the Prana, I am completely haunted by extreme fear and anxieties, I have fallen in to the bottmless worldly desires, Oh! Vibho kindly elevate my soul and provide control over senses and passion, I shall meditate upon the lotus feet of Lord Hanuman, who is too compassionate, kindly protect us. Oh! Kapeeshvara, Oh! Dhayalo, I have been fallen deep inside the worldly matters, the theieves like senses looted by greatest wealth of intellect and torn asunder my body, I shall take refuge at your lotus feet, kindly protect me.  The above are the glorious verses praising the splendor of  Hanuman who is Shivankara/symbolizes auspiciousness, whose lotus feet shines in the luster from the crowns of Lord Bhrama, Maruthgana, Rudra, and Mahendhra, he immerses in the recitation of sacred chants of Dhasharathi in lotus like heart,  which is capable to eradicate all the miseries and perils of the worshiper, whoever reads or listens to it on regular basis would  attain nearness to the lotus feet of Acchyutha who is personified as Rama, he is  unconquerable .

I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva and reverentially offer one leaf of Bilvam, veneration of Lord Shiva with a single bale leaf would bring the merit of living on the sacred land of Kashi and worship of Lord Kalabhairava, it would eradicate all the severe sins of the worshiper, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva and reverentially offer one leaf of Bilvam,   whoever reads or recites, or venerates Lord Shiva with the bale leaves during the hours of dawn, noon or dusk would attain liberation from worldly existence, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva and reverentially offer one leaf of Bilvam,  worship of Lord Shiva with a single bale leaf would bring the merit of offering thousands of elephants, lands, gold coins as charity and performance of all fire sacrifices, worship of Lord Shiva with single bale leaf would provide virtuous offspring and grandchildren, abundance of wealth, grains and happiness, ultimately worshiper would  attain nearness to Lord Shiva, veneration of Lord Shiva with single bale leaf would bring the merit of offering wealth to thousands and millions of Vipras/Bhramin who strictly follows Bhraminic rite, worship of Lord Shiva and offering single bale leaf at the his lotus feet or recitation of his sacred names would bring Jeevanmukthi/state of bliss/state of renunciation to the worshiper, veneration of Lord Shiva with the single bale leaf would provide the meritorious reward of performance of numerous charities, righteous deeds and visit to the numerous sacred shrines, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva and reverentially offer one leaf of Bilvam,  Oh! Prabho, I shall always meditate upon your lotus feet, kindly protect us and bless us with all kinds of auspiciousness in our homes, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva and reverentially offer one leaf of Bilvam,  I shall meditate upon supreme Lord Shiva who is smeared in sacred ashes all over the body, along with Goddess Uma who is mounted on the celestial bull and accompanied by Ganas, veneration of Lord Shiva with a single bale leaf would provide the merit of veneration of thousands of Salagramashila and honoring hundreds and millions of Vipra, performance of millions of Yajja, veneration of Lord Shiva with the single bale leaf would eradicate all those sins committed knowingly or unknowingly, Oh! Manava, propitious tree of Bilva was emerged while churning the ocean for the nectar of immortality, hence it should be preserved with intense faith and devotion, veneration of Mahadeva with a single bale leaf would provide performance of  millions of  fire sacrifices, recitation of these glorious verses once a day on regular basis would eradicates all the enemies, recitation of these glorious verse twice a day on regular basis would fulfils all the desires of the worshiper, recitation of these glorious verses thrice a day on regular basis would  provide long life and wealth, it fulfills all those desired by the worshiper, whoever reads of listens to  the above sacred hymns once, or twice or thrice would attain the eternal presence of Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi and Lord Shiva along with ShivA/Goddess Parvathi, veneration of Lord Shiva with the bale leaves would eradicates sins of millions of births, whoever listens to the glorious  Bilvashtotharashathanama Sthothra would be freed from the sins of seven births, whoever recite the above glorious verses of Bilvashtoththarashathanama Sthothra would get freed from their sins of  Janmanthara/accumulated sins, witnessing the Linga would eradicate the sins committed during the day and night, remembering  Lord Maheshvara would eradicates the sins committed on each and every seconds, preserving the sacred scripture of Bilva Ashtoththarashathanama Sthothra would bring good health and eradicates all kinds of fears and anxieties of the worshiper.

I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva and reverentially offer one leaf of Bilvam, I think it is impossible to attain even for the celestial and planets to worship Lord Shiva with the Bale leaves during the most propitious hours of Pradhosha, worship of Lord Shiva with a single leaf of Bale would bring the merit of construction of pond and construction of Shiva shrine, performance of millions of marriage of young maiden to appropriate bride groom, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva and reverentially offer one leaf of Bilvam, witnessing a Bilva tree or touching  would eradicates all the sins of the worshiper, even the severe sins like Bhramahathya, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva and reverentially offer one leaf of Bilvam, worship of Lord Shiva with Bale leaves brings the pieities of veneration with Panchabilva known as Thulsi, Bilvam, Nirgundi/divine tree that has five petaled leaves, Jambeeram/kind of basil, and  Amalakam, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva and reverentially offer one leaf of Bilvam,  Lord Nandikeshvara should be  worshiped with unbroken leaves of Bale, it would eradicate all the sins of the worshiper,veneration of Lord Shiva with Bale leaves would provide the meritorious reward of performance of marriage of thousands and millions of young maiden to appropriate bride groom and offering Kingdom and land as charity. I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva and reverentially offer one leaf of Bilvam, worship of Lord Shiva with a single bale leaf would provide the merit of performance of thousands of AshvamedhaYagam, offering millions of elephants and horses as charity, and offering cows as charity for the whole year, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva and reverentially offer one leaf of Bilvam,  worship of Lord Shiva with single bale leaf would bring the pieties of recitation of Chathurveda/Rig, Yajur, Sama, and Atharvana, Mahabharath and various sacred scriptures for thousands of times, offering Kingdom and land as charity, I shall prostrate before supreme Lord Shiva and reverentially offer one leaf of Bilvam,  worship of Lord of Shiva with a single bale leaf would provide the merit of veneration of golden Mountain Meru which is the treasure house of all the precious gems, recitation of Bilvashtoththara Shathanama Sthothram and veneration of Linga with the bale leaves would bring abundance of meritorious reward.
