Sri Surdas Maharaj – Sri Sur – Vinaya – Pathrika – The wealth which is not used to serve the needy is worthless

Chapter – 226-  Sur -Vinaya – Pathrika –The wealth which is not used to serve the needy is worthless

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Kripalu, Oh! Sri Hari, Oh! Dheenadhayala, you are the savior of the distressed souls, if you do not shower your compassionate and kind grace upon me, I am your sincere servant and would remain wretched for my whole life. Oh! Prabho, if I continue living in this body, I would be chasing after the material and physical pleasures, knocking on all the doors for accumulating possession, wealth, money, richness, etc. if I leave the mortal coil, I do not achieve the supreme state in the Paraloka/afterlife, because I did not do any righteous deeds to attain that supreme Bhramam. Oh! Prabho, the wealthiest should give away in charity to the needy, it is meaningless to feel sad watching the distressed, unless and until remove the suffering of the Jeeva. Oh! Shyamsundhar, If I have sincerely followed the austerities, Japa, Thapa, Yajja, Swadhyaya, Astheyam, Sathyam, Dhayam, Dhanam, Dhyanam, Ahimsa, Arjjavam, Thithiksha, Bhramacharya, etc. I would have achieved the ultimate goal of human life, I would have achieved the supreme Bhramam, and four Purusharththa, such as Dharma/righteousness, Arththa/wealth, Kama/desire, and Moksha,/liberation from repeated births. Oh! Prabho, I did not follow the Vedic way of life, or instructions of scriptures, hence I am distressed, and worn out by three kinds of sufferings 1) grief of natural calamities, flood, drought, famine, earthquake, forest fire, epidemic, etc. 2) grief of aging, illnesses, fear of death, and separation from beloved ones 3) and grief from excessive attachment to possession, wealth, money, richness, fame, children, wife, companion and relatives, etc. in their absence.”

Chapter – 225-  Sur -Vinaya – Pathrika –The practice of Bhakthi/devotion, Gnana/wisdom, and Vairagya/renunciation to get rid of Thapathrya

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Thribhuvanapathi/The Lord of three worlds, Lord of Universe and its living and non-living things, Oh! Prabho, Oh! Sri Hari, I am a grave sinner, if you look upon my sins committed by words, mind, and action, you will never forgive me. Oh! Prabho, my mind is drenched in lust, desire, ego, anger, pride, jealousy, Ahamkara, and Mamakara, I have committed various sins from the moment I have taken birth to till date, and even after all these, I have not been satisfied yet. I have not developed Bhakti/devotion, Gnana/wisdom, and Vairagya/renunciation, Oh! Prabho, I am ignorant and dull-minded, and the impurities of my mind have driven me afar from the worship of Lord Sri Hari, I did not achieve the supreme wisdom/The absolute Truth,/soul is imperishable and all the material matters are perishable/ Soul is Sacchidhanandha Swaroopa Paramathma Parambhramam resides as a soul in the Jeeva, is indestructible Purusha. The diversified material matters of sound, smell, touch, passion, and appearance are destructible Prakrithi. Oh! Oh! Prabho, my mind resembles the Kamanaroopi forest that was filled with the thorns of lust and desire, I did not see the path of righteousness, devotion, wisdom, and renunciation/Bhakti, Gnana, and Vairagya, I have been chasing after wealth, possession, richness, money, fame, children, wife, companion and relatives, of fleeting nature. Oh! Prabho, you are the knower of All, omnipresent, omniscient, and omnipotent supreme Bhramam resides as a soul in the Jeeva, you are the source of the functioning of the mind, intellect, Chiththa, Ahamkara, Prana, Karma, and Gnanendhriyas, etc. Oh! Sri Surdas Maharaj – Sri Sur – Vinaya – Pathrika – The impurities of the mind

Chapter – 224-  Sur -Vinaya – Pathrika – The impurities of the mind

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Prabho, I did not follow righteousness after achieving the precious life as a human. I am disgraceful, wicked, deceitful, unfortunate, lustful, drenched in worldly matters of fleeting nature. I have committed several sins by words, mind, and deeds, I have not followed any of the austerities, truthfulness, Astheyam, Ahimsa, I have not observed vows, celibacy, self-control, non-violence, etc.  I was soaked in lust, desire, ego, anger, jealousy, pride, Ahamkara, and Mamakara. Oh! Prabho, I have stolen money from the travelers and killed them, I was uncontrollable, had no control over my senses, ignorant, arrogant, dull-minded, chasing after worldly matters of possession, richness, money, fame, wealth, children, wife, companion, relatives, etc. I was chained in Mohapasha/noose of worldly bondage. Oh! Prabho, I have taken great pleasure in gossip, rumors, gambling, etc. I was merciless, a sinner, and hated by all and I did not respect preceptors, Guru, Santh, or Mahathma. Oh! Prabho, I am drenched in lust, desire, ego, anger, jealousy, pride, etc. I made false promises, and I look for every opportunity to argue and fight. Oh! Prabho, I have taken great pleasure in worldly matters, chasing after material and physical pleasures, and accumulating wealth in immoral ways. I did not spend the wealth for charity, I did not use it for myself, or I did not feed others with that money. Oh! Prabho, I invited trouble with others, I push others into troubles and arguments, I did not take pleasure in others’ happiness, and I feel jealous of others’ wellness. Oh! Prabho, I am stubborn, hungry, and always seek pleasure in meals, I have been born into a lowly clan, ignorant, dull-minded, and repeatedly cry over my bad luck. I am drenched in illusion/Mrigathrishna, and I spread my hand before others, and lazy too. Oh! Prabho, I influence people at ease, I eat meals to my heart’s content I did not leave a single thing to eat, be it good or bad, and go to deep slumber. I influence people to do good deeds, and I lecture righteousness but I don’t follow them. I have portrayed myself as a saintly person, unfortunately, I did not follow austerities or disciplines in my life. Oh! Prabho, I am heartless and find mistakes in others easily, I do not look upon my fault. I am selfish and dull-witted, penniless, wicked, and unsatisfied. Oh! Prabho, I am arrogant, I have no intelligence or strength, hence I do push myself into darkness and others too. I did not hesitate to eat the vomit like worldly matters or adopt those unwanted habits that were abandoned once. Oh! Prabho, I did not respect the saintly people or preceptors, I am wicked and ignorant, I am a coward, selfish Jeeva taken great pleasure in material and physical pleasures. Oh! Prabho, I seek opportunities to argue and fight, I keep dangerous secrets, I do not waste opportunities to disgrace others, I steal and evil-minded did not take pleasure in the association of noble souls. I have looted the wealth and happiness of others; I get jealous of others’ happiness and peace. Oh!Prabho, Oh! Sri Hari, I am a pandora box of immoral habits, I did not explain them all.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj – Sri Sur – Vinaya – Pathrika – The Jeeva is not independent, the supreme Bhramam resides as a soul in the Jeeva – the body is perishable and the soul is indestructible

Chapter – 223-  Sur -Vinaya – Pathrika – The Jeeva is not independent, the supreme Bhramam resides as a soul in the Jeeva – the body is perishable and the soul is imperishable

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Prabho, I am unfortunate Jeeva, worked on the unpromising and unyielding land, sowing the seeds of the impurities of the mind, I was soaked in the illusion of your Maya, I was working on the futile efforts of Laukika/worldly matters, Mrigathrishna, I did not achieve anything other than despair and grief. The two bullocks of Kama/lust and desire, and Krodha/anger resembles Rajoguna and Thamoguna/immoral deeds sown the seeds and the wicked mind drenched in illusion shouldered them and plowed the barren land. The sensory organs resemble the farmers who sowed the seeds at their own pace and produced the attributes/qualities, of various natures. Oh! Prabho, my attachment to children, wife, companion, relatives, possession, money, fame, richness, etc. forcefully dragged me into thoughtless actions, I was drowning myself in the worldly matters of infinite nature to satiate my senses and the people around me. Oh! Prabho, the Lord Yama/death/Time/ Lord of righteousness, the Lord of worldly existence asking me to describe the list of my Karma, hence I am deeply worried, I have nothing earned for the afterlife, all that I was chasing after material matters and physical pleasures while living. I have not engaged in any of the righteous deeds, or performed charity, Japa, Thapa, Yajja, or not observed vows, austerities, Shama, Sathyam, Dhama, Dhaya, Ahimsa, Astheyam, Arjjavam, Thithiksha, Swadhyaya, etc. I haven’t earned Dharmaroopi wealth to disclose before the Lord Yama, hence I have no way out from the hell. Oh! Prabho, I am unfortunate Jeeva sowed the seeds of immoral deeds, so reaping the fruits of it, shoveling me into grief and suffering, and births in the 84 lakhs wombs. I am wicked and deceitful, swollen with pride, jealousy, ego, anger, lust, and desire, so whenever I perform any pious deed with the grace of the Lord, I spoil them with my ego and pride or I perform the rites for personal gain, in this way, the Dharma turns out to be Adharma. Oh! Prabho, I have been chasing after wealth, possession, money, richness, fame, children, wife, companion, and relatives, with the expectation that it would be permanent, sadly none was permanent or I had to leave them pushing into extreme grief and agony in its absence. Oh! Prabho, Oh! Sri Hari, kindly enlightens the Jeeva with the knowledge of absolute truth that the supreme Bhramam resides as the soul is bliss, and indestructible, all material matters are destructible. So that, I can raise the flag of that indestructible Sacchidhanandha Swaroopa Paramathma Parambhramam, Oh! Prabho, Oh! Sri Hari, kindly imprint your name on the flag, so that the Jeeva would always remember that he’s not independent, the supreme Lord Sri Hari is the Master of the Universe and its living and non-living things. It would encourage the Jeeva to remember you always, and prevent the chase after the infinite worldly matters of fleeting nature, the human body is a village, and the sensory organs are mere guests in it. Oh! Prabho, I am your sincere servant, I have become fragile, and helpless, kindly shower your compassionate grace upon me, so that people won’t make a mockery of me.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj – Sri Sur – Vinaya – Pathrika – There is no grief other than the three kinds such as 1) grief caused by illnesses, fear of death, and separation from beloved ones, 2) grief caused by the attachment to possession, richness, wealth, money, wife, fame, children, relatives, companions, etc. in their absence 3) grief caused by natural calamities, drought, famine, flood, woodfire, earthquake, epidemic etc.

Chapter – 222-  Sur -Vinaya – Pathrika – There is no grief other than the three kinds such as 1) grief caused by illnesses, fear of death, and separation from beloved ones, 2) grief caused by the attachment to possession, richness, wealth, money, wife, fame, children, relatives, companions, etc. in their absence 3) grief caused by natural calamities, drought, famine, flood, woodfire, earthquake, epidemic, etc.

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Sri Hari, I have been drenched in worldly matters of fleeting nature, I am ignorant and dull-minded, and I did not utilize the precious birth as a human received after several pieties to achieve the four Purusharththa/Dharma, Artha, Kama, and Moksha, instead, I have soaked in worldly matters of possession, richness, fame, money, wealth, children, wife, companion and relatives, of fleeting nature. Oh! Prabho, you are Antharyami/resides as a soul in the Jeeva, you are the source of the functioning of the mind, intellect, chiththa, Ahamkara, vital air/Prana, Karma and Gnanendhriyas, etc. you are all-pervasive supreme Bhramam, omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent, how can I hide my action, thought and words, from you? How did I explain the sins committed in each and every second? I was drenched in illusion, I was soaked in Mrigathrishna/the illusion that all those infinite sounds, smell, passion, appearance, and touch are real, alas! that was merely a dream. Oh! Prabho, I am worn out of Thapathraya/three kinds of grief 1) grief caused by an epidemic, famine, drought, flood, woodfire, earth-quake, etc. – Adhidheivik 2) grief caused by aging, illnesses, fear of death, and separation from the beloved ones – Adhyathmik and 3) grief caused by possession, wealth, richness, money, fame, children, wife, companion, relatives - Adhibhauthik.  Oh! Prabho, I have no one to protect me from the bottomless ocean of worldly existence, I have neither ferry nor ferryman, I have been stuck in the middle of an ocean of worldly existence, and I am helpless, kindly protect me from the sufferings of worldly existence and repeated births.”

Chapter – 221-  Sur -Vinaya – Pathrika – The absolute truth is that Jeeva creates imaginary relationships like father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter, etc. of impermanent nature in each birth

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Prabho, Oh! Sri Hari, Oh! Pathithapavan, I am an unfortunate Jeeva who committed several sins accumulated by words, mind, and deed mountain-sized sins in several births from various wombs, I am drenched in sins from toenails to head, my sins are countless. Oh! Prabo, during each birth in different wombs, I have taken great pleasure living in that body with the illusion that the body is permanent, I have created imaginary relationships like father, mother, child, brother, sister, etc while living in the momentary life of worldly existence, I have considered all those material and personal wealth are permanent, I was fooled by the sense, I was drenched in lust, desire, ego, anger, jealousy, pride, Ahamkara, and Mamakara. Oh! Prabho, if I begin to write down my sins by using mother Earth as paper, the ocean as Ink, and the Kalpavruksha as the pen, sadly it would not be enough to enlist my sins, soon I would feel exhausted. Oh! Prabho, you are the savior of distressed Jeeva, the Veda, and scriptures highly praising your virtues, Oh! Shyamsundar, I am the jewel/easily traceable among the distressed Jeeva, kindly liberate me from the suffering and grief of the bottomless ocean of worldly existence and repeated births.”

Sri Surdas Maharaj – Sri Sur – Vinaya – Pathrika – The practice of devotion to get rid of Thapathrya/three kinds of grief

Chapter – 220-  Sur -Vinaya – Pathrika –The practice of devotion to get rid of Thapathrya/three kinds of grief

Sri Surdas Maharaj speaks “Oh! Pathitha Pavan, Oh! Dheenabandhu,  Oh! Sri Hari, you are the savior of the distressed soul, the Veda and scriptures highly praise your endless virtues. Oh! Prabho, you are the purifier of souls, you have liberated Ganika/the prostitute who spent later years of age in the company of a parrot that was bought from the devotee of Lord Sri Hari, the prostitute was fortunate enough to get rid of the sufferings of worldly existence by merely listening to the ‘Sri Ramanama’ recitation of the parrot.  Devi Ahalya, the wife of Sage Gautama was cursed by the Sage for her mischievousness, Devi Ahalya turned into rock and spent years and years in extreme heat and cold, and finally, she got relieved from the curse at the touch of the dust particles of your feet, once again Devi Ahalya attained the marvelous form and reunited with Sage Gauthama. The elephant Gajendra, who was taken great pleasure in the association of its herd was seized on the leg by a crocodile in the pond, the friends, families, and relatives strived hard to save elephant Gajendra became futile, it fought for several years all alone, at last, he cried out for Lord Sri Hari. Oh! Prabho, you did rush to the Gajendra and liberated the elephant and crocodile from the curse. Oh! Prabho, I am worn out of sufferings and grief of worldly existence, I am helpless, cruel, wicked, deceitful, and distraught Jeeva. Oh! Prabho, you are the knower of all, you are that supreme Bhramam resides as the soul in the Jeeva, you are omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent, should I describe the sins committed by words, mind, and deeds?”
